      Koreans are very sensitive about privacy violations. No matter how much it is about Corona, the whole people will strongly protest if personal information is exposed to other citizens. Just for the public purpose, only the route he has moved is disclosed, and there is absolutely no other infringement. The patient is called just "a number". This is a social consensus not seen in other countries. Other European countries are misunderstanding about this.

      Yes, she is smart, savvy, and very articulate to express her intentions and opinions.
      Nevertheless, she does not have in-depth knowledge necessary to deal with the nuclear issue and the general relationship between North and South.
      If you understood the Korean language very well and listened to her answering the questions from the representatives at the parliament, you would immediately discover that she is incapable of making effective decisions for those diplomatic issues the nation is facing currently.

      @Marcus Aurelius
      Ethnic diversity is not a problem as far as inclusion and mutual trust can be felt and be held by all the citizens; this is impossible when the government classifies people by race and applies policy accordingly.
      US has failed, for too many years now, to shift focus towards the economic classes and especially those who are impoverished regardless of race. This has intensified the division, and now every race feels discriminated against.
      The issue is *NOT* multiculturalism. It is inclusion, and the snobs who cannot allow it because real inclusion will undermine their moral superiority.
      Did you say you think asians are smart?

    As a Korean citizen who lives in Los Angeles, the most amazing thing I see from Korea is that Korean government just tell the truth about both good and bad things. When other counties didn't want to talk about Covid-19 new cases in January and February. Korea started mass numbers of testing and revealed the numbers to the world, even though they knew it would definitely influence on their economy negatively and actually many counties closed the borders from Korea. Now, all the world praise for Korea's successful fight against Covid-19, but Korea still tell the world about the danger of re-infection.

    In 2015, there was a MERS outbreak in South Korea. 39 fatalities occurred.
    After that its government has been preparing for and establishing a quarantine system of infectious diseases since then.
    The government was requiring hospitals to have two epidemiographer experts at least and certain number of negative pressure hospital rooms in order to become an official testing facility in major cities. In the privacy issue to tract and isolate an infected citizen, The government and its officials never invaded their privacy, rather, are approaching it carefully by AI platform for public interests and public safety as well. Because, South Koreans were suffering from frequent invasion of their privacy by several dictators using Korean CIA and military intel organizations for years. Now, South Korea is the one of the greatest respectful democratic free countries by people's blood and efforts, respecting and protecting citizens privacy.

    • @DrWho44
      @DrWho44 4 роки тому +25

      Very true! Democracy for South Koreans is hard-earned value. So many people died fighting for democracy ever since independence. Literally there are hundreds of Mandela in SK.

    • @wsk5nwytscnkfsu
      @wsk5nwytscnkfsu 4 роки тому +14

      This is true. Korea has stricter privacy laws and regulations than most other countries. This was part of the challenges (other than uncooperative people/companies) that epidemiological investigators faced during MERS outbreak, which was why Korea’s parliament amended the law to allow for some limited use of information such as credit card transaction records for the purposes of aiding the investigation efforts during an infectious disease crisis. Privacy invasion is a sensitive issue that is dealt carefully in Korea especially because of, like you mentioned, the history of oppressive regimes in the past. Because of that painful history (even if long ago) Korean people today are highly critical and do not tolerate forceful government actions that invade basic rights.
      Many newspapers including NYT love to spin the whole “Korea traded in privacy for freedom of movement” story not caring for any factchecking (though that particular phrase in part is true in some sense because of the amended law I mentioned) and claim that Korean government is tracking and watching every citizen’s whereabouts. (Possibly because they want to believe that Korea’s approach cannot be replicated in the US or Europe.) That is simply inaccurate and negligent journalism. I am glad that people like you are more informed about the nuanced situation.

      Collective trauma indeed!!! I have been traumatised for many years by the fact that the young victims were literally abandoned by the authority. I never forgive Park and her government as well as her ruling party at that time. Even more horrific thing was and still is the fact that not only the right wing politicians but also fascist group of people called 'ilbe' insulted the victims and their remaining families in a most evil way beyond your imagination. The current president Moon has been with the victims families all the way and now he is the target for the right wing fascist groups. They are all over the places on internet spreading fake stories that Moon is a dictator or China' puppet, etc.

    I think, it's really important that who is the leader in that country /organization. South Korean president Mr Moon was a former student activist, human right lawyer also he ran the human right law office with former South Korean president Moo-hyun, Noh before entering the politics. Mr Moon has been published book and it's called - "humanity is prior to anything" which was his political slogan as well. He's not chasing any fame, wealth, power during his life even his presidency. I know many former presidents chased these. He's only concerning about their people's better life (Reducing financial burden for low class, improving system to boost national economic, creating more jobs, etc..) so he has warm heart and cold brain to run the country, especially he has been improved relationship with North Korea. So their people strongly believes this government and president as well. that' why they're handling very well about this COVID-19 disaster too.
