My first solo was in a DA40. I can still remember the feeling of weight shift not having my instructor in the seat next to me. Diamond made one of the best low wing aircraft for general aviation ever. I miss flying them. CONGRATS on your tails brother.
Well done. My first solo at KISW in central WI, March, 1969, Cessna 150 N50156 which is still flying somewhere in Ohio. Still have the shirt with the tail missing... Be happy to trade planes with you!
I remember my first solo. You never forget the first time. I did the solo in a DA20. Flying: the most challenging but also the most exciting sport in the world.
Awesome...still remember my first solo in a C-150, 1981. I had no idea that was the plan for the day! We did several take-offs/landings then pulled up to ramp (I was wondering why the lesson was cut short!)...then my instructor said, take Er up! My Initial thought was a slight bit of fear but at the same time, excitement! I remember thinking, ‘I am either going to fly this thing or die trying!’ Needless to say all went well. Congratulations!
Awesome! Great flying! Too bad no cutting off the back of your shirt. Such an awesome tradition. The back of the shirt I was wearing the day of my solo, still pinned up at RBW Airport in S.C. (20-years now). After it is cut off, you take a marker, put N# on it, aircraft make/model, date of solo, and your CFI/CFII signs it, before proudly being put on display. Happy/Safe Flying!
This brought back so many memories. I remember my solo, my instructor specifically told me to take the RIGHT exit out of the rwy to pick him up otherwise he'd have to walk all the way around 3 runways back to the hangar.
Good job on the solo but your instructor deserves a slap on the wrist for getting out with the engine running and jumping of the front of the wing like that.
I love this plane. I don't even fly, but its my dream plane. Its also safer than the Cessna172, safer than the Piper Cherokee, and even safer than the Cirrus that has the parachute. Better safety record than all of the most common little planes. To me, the safety is one reason I love it, bu i love it because it looks close to a bird. The Cessna172 looks like a flying car. The Piper is ugly, loos like a flying suv. The Cirrus also looks like a car with wheels. To me, the Diamond DA40 looks like an eagle. Like what a plane should look like. Its almost poetic. Beautiful curved lines. Wing looks like what a wing should look like in the air. Some say that its more expensive than the others. But in safety, fuel, and design/looks, to me it is the GOAT out of the 4 most popular small planes. I f i was rich, i would get 2. One to fly. The other just to store environmentally sealed in a hanger, in case they stopped making them.
oh man this is so inspiring I want to be a pilot when i grow up and I love this plane I flew once for about 8-10 minutes, it was really fun, and I really want to do it again also that plane is beautiful and amazing camera hope you make more vids with this plane these are very relaxing
Great Solo! You seemed confident Comfortable! It’s an awesome feeling! Proud of You! Congratulations! Getting to Fly is one of the most wonderful experiences in life! My Favorite Poem was and still is “High Flight!”
I'm an old CFI with over 8K hours of instruction given. From my perspective you get an A+. What I REALLY liked was your focus was not glued on the panel, you were scanning outside. Congratulations. (Do they still cut your shirt tail off after your first solo?)
A very alarming question from the beginning of the video with the safety standards and as I fly on a DA40-TDI, how did you open the canopy and let a person out of the aircraft while the engine is running?!
I did the same thing on my solo in a DA40, the only difference is that my instructor climbed over the wing towards the rear of the aircraft instead of the front. Like TheCapTan, I put the parking brakes on and held the canopy.
Yeah possible but as for safety regulations in the EASA UK CAA is different I guess, because we have to turn off the engine to let anyone near the aircraft.
@@TheCapTan Congrats again on entering the club, but no.. it's not safe to exit to the front of the wing with a running engine. I promise if you see the accident, you will never ever forget it. It takes literally 30 seconds to shut-down and start up again.
nice, looking forward mine some time soon. just a quick question about the connection needed between the Gopro and the headset to avoid the mic noise. thx
nice solo. Quick question from someone interested in the ppl. is it beneficial to start flying in the diamond during training or reserve it for when buying an aircraft that flies the diamond. Since you did train with the diamond here, did you train in other planes?
The diamond is great plane to train in. I first started on a Cessna 172 then went to the DA40 then got my ppl in the 172. I only did that as my flight school sold their plane and I lost my CFI and had to find a new one. The 172 would be cheaper if steam gauges but i enjoyed the DA40 more. I fly a Piper Arrow 180 now. You cant go wrong with either a 172 , DA40 and Archer. Finding a good CFI is the most important piece.
I started in 2014 and had about 8 hours then had to stop. I resumed in 2017 in the diamond and almost finished in about 6 months until the school closed. I ending up finishing in 2019 having to find a new cfi.
For this flight I used the standard go pro suction mount. I use ram mounts now. Mini usb to headset adapter for go pro hero 4 but I use the hero 7 now.
I have over 600 hours flying diamonds and I am a CFI he should not have exited the plane like that it is dangerous and not just the prop risk but in the event he lets go of the brakes and gets hit by the wing
I hate it when people get out of the airplane and go in front of the wing towards the prop, Ive heard horror stories of people walking right into the prop
Oh that feeling when the instructor jumps out of the plane and gives you the thumbs up. Belated congratulations.

I guess I am kinda randomly asking but do anyone know of a good site to stream new series online?
@Liam Imran i would suggest flixzone. You can find it by googling =)
@Kash Jaxon yea, I have been using flixzone for since april myself =)
@Kash Jaxon thanks, signed up and it seems like they got a lot of movies there :) I really appreciate it!

Exactly the same situation for me Joe, 1972 in a C-150. Hope you are still flying.

You mount and dismount the Diamond from the leading edge.
@@RedDawnAviation I repeat, jumping of the leading edge of the wing WITH THE ENGINE RUNNING. People get killed that way.
@@RedDawnAviation In that case, shutting the engine off before ANYONE enters or exits the aircraft should be standard operating procedure.
@@billr8667 no,if we keep engine on idle its safe to leave
If we keep the engine at idle it will only put the instructor in a wheelchair for the rest of his life and won’t kill him I guess that’s good

Nice work! Congrats!
I'm 5 years late but I'd still like to congratulate you!
Good first solo. Congrats. Great feeling isn't it.
Michael Chartres thanks
I've been doing my training in a DA40 XLS. It was nice to follow along with you in my head.
Glad to hear it!
Well done sir, that has to be an awesome feeling.
Thank you. It was!
Great Work. I've been flying since 1975 and would be happy if all of my landings were that smooth.
Tom Davis thanks. I have a great instructor.
Awesome! Cant wait for my first solo!
Congratulations on your first solo
How i miss the moment of solo flight. You had a good flight
Very nice. I first soloed in Ramona.
well done, perfect landing.
Nice, smooth landing. Congrats!
Nices pictures man, first flight is always big moment, i'm French man and pilot of glider.
thx for video.....
Great landing, buddy!
Congratulations dude.
A very alarming question from the beginning of the video with the safety standards and as I fly on a DA40-TDI, how did you open the canopy and let a person out of the aircraft while the engine is running?!
raphael traboulsi Wasn’t a safety concern. I was there to ensure the plane didn’t move. I think hand starting planes is much more of a safety issue.
I did the same thing on my solo in a DA40, the only difference is that my instructor climbed over the wing towards the rear of the aircraft instead of the front. Like TheCapTan, I put the parking brakes on and held the canopy.

Yes it is

Congrats dude ... soon I will try ur feelings
Congrats bro bro. Thats my home airport but over with Universal air. Ill look out for you.
shannon handy thanks man
Whos your instructor over there. I just lost mine. I need 30 min of solo for check ride.
His name is Dave at universal. Or you can try DuBois over at chino if ur not to far and ask for Colin.
shannon handy even trying to get a hold of Dave.
nice work dude! mine is coming up next week hopefully..
Bradley Barton thanks man. Good luck
Fantastic job
You did one my CFI had me do 6 takeoffs & landing
I did 3. Only filmed first one to cut video down.
I'm thinking the need to open the little window was due to sweaty palms! Either way, great job! I'm just starting myself.
congratulations
thanks for the video. are you using an ND filter on your gopro?
No filter. Thanks for watching.
@@TheCapTan wow, i get such poor visibility with mine in the 172. i'm guessing because the canopy lets more light in the cabin on the DA40.
scott willson check out my Cessna flight. First flight and private pilot. You may need to move camera closer to the front.
Congrats man! Welcome to the club :)
Thanks
Looked like alot of fun

Nice job! But your instructor jumping off the leading edge with the running engine is pretty dangerous. Imagine what would happen if he tripped

😂💀
Excellent job and great first landing! I hope I do that well! Congratulations! I didn't catch the airport? Are you in Nevada? Cali?

Is this Bracket Airport?
Yes

Congrats
Nice job

0:20 How dangerous...the engine is still running!!!
@thecaptan how long was the complete process from ground school to your first solo flight??
I started in 2014 and had about 8 hours then had to stop. I resumed in 2017 in the diamond and almost finished in about 6 months until the school closed. I ending up finishing in 2019 having to find a new cfi.
Why'd he ask you to contact ground when he didn't know whether you were doing stop and gos/touch and gos or actually coming in?
I didn’t ask for the option.
I didn’t ask for the option.
nice solo.
Shawn Gordon thanks!
Congrats ...Nice Landing ,it was a Greaser!!!
NIce landing.
where is this school flight located??
What kind of go pro mount do you use? Also, what kind of wiring do you have set up to hear the audio?
For this flight I used the standard go pro suction mount. I use ram mounts now. Mini usb to headset adapter for go pro hero 4 but I use the hero 7 now.
How do you get the gopros to pick up to hear the mics and ATC talk?
Audio cable that plugs into jacks and go pro.
Nailed it!
Why he is setting t/o flaps when he has speed higher than allowed for flaps ? ... mistake ? 7:37
First notch is 108 kias or less. Full 91kias
@@TheCapTan hmm .. i thought that white arc signalising speed what should not be exceeded with flaps
Peter Malík depends on plane. This one states 108 on the checklist and my instructor stated same. My friend owns one too.

Great job congratulations
joseph perez thanks!
I am flying a plane just like that monday. for the first time... very nervous
Don’t be, you’ll really enjoy it!
How many lessons before you solo?
Depends on how often you fly and when your instructor feels your ready.
Great landing.
WOW!! It has a joystick.
What's the name of this flight school ?
Jamie .k. Rowe Aviators Air Club At Brackett Airport La Verne Ca.
TheCapTan also thumbs up on your camera angles
