The old sound feels more like a finite thing, like whatever you were doing is gone now, the new sound feels more like it's asking you to press continue
The Old sound is the meme one that everyone uses all the time. Now, the new version, AKA The Enhanced Version, is the one where it removes the metal clanking sound and adds in a “ptoooooo” sound in the background. It is also used in GTA Online. Then there’s busted, and I only got this one once, I think it’s basically the same as the old one. Then there’s Mission Failed, and they take out all the extras, but then add back in the old metal clank sound. There’s 2 versions of this one. 1) The Enhanced Version, the one where it sounds like the wasted effect and then, 2) When they take out all the extra sound effects and then put back in the metal sound. But now that we say this, they actually now use the new sound for both GTA V and GTA Online. This is only for the Next-Gen Consoles.
So I have an opinion on this, and I also have a possible explanation on the New and Old Generation sounds. The Old Generation has the “metal cling” sound when the “WASTED” text pops up, and there are many different versions of the old one that I have heard while dying in story mode on GTA 5. The New Generation DOES NOT have the metal clinging sound when the “WASTED” text pops up, and therefore has some musical accompaniment in the background, also known as the “PTOOOOOOO!” sound. There is a minor difference in the two, I like them both the same way. Let me explain how different the variations of the old one are. First off, if you have a quick death, say, a car explosion, or you fall off the Maze Bank building: Your character hits the ground and dies from blunt force trauma. Sure, the WASTED sound shows up, but the gray screen shows up first, and the dramatic/death music is 1-3 seconds late to sound, and the WASTED text pops up with it. Also, there is this one with the normal death, like you get punched or something: Your character dies, and once again, the sounds are late. But this time, you can hear the actual fading of the dramatic/death music, just like when you watched this video, you heard it then. [Edit] There is also ANOTHER metal clanking sound in the distance when the fading was 10 milliseconds from ending. Then, there’s this one time where I died, and the sounds completely didn’t sound. It was just the metal flank sound and the WASTED text. Also, there’s this one that sounds as normal, but then there is this WEIRD AS HELL ILLUSION SOUND AT THE END. Then, there’s the new one, all as normal. If you find any other old variation sounds, notify me by replying on this comment. Otherwise, you can just freely comment if you want. :D
Thanks to this video, I see a lot of people didn't know they changed the sound and I'm one of the few that has known for a while and i havent even played the next gen since 2019

The new one irks me, it’s got a really creepy vibe to it, the old one is cool too but for a different reason, it feels like your life was cut short abruptly, before you could even react, showing you how quickly crime can make you fade away, just another statistic, fits really well if you’ve been caught by a stray bullet.
