@@efakter1 Well we'll have to agree to disagree then. I obviously think he is since that's what I wrote. Every time I see a list of the great guitarists I never see him on it, and I see guitarists who can't shine his shoes ahead of him. Geddy and Neil are at the top of their lists, and deservedly so, but Alex consistently gets no love. I can't understand why this is.

They were way ahead of the curve musically and would give air time to up and coming local acts like Rush . I first saw them when they played my high school in Brantford in 1971 . Rush, imo, is the greatest band of all time. You can find out for yourself. 40 years, 19 Studio albums, over 40 million records sold. World class musicianship and thought provoking lyrics.
Neil Peart taught me more than any other person in my life and we never met. This band has provided the soundtrack to my life and guided me through the darkest times.

Jagged obviously subjective, I am a Led Zeppelin fan as well, I will not waste time trying to convince you I’m right. I can respect your opinion, it is yours after all. I will say that you might be mistaken in your assessment of Alex Lifeson, you would not be the first. I would give Jimmy the style points but substance belongs to Alex. I don’t know it to be a fact but I strongly believe that Alex could play anything that Mr. Page played throughout his career but I’m not sure that the opposite would apply. I could be wrong. I wish you well!

I have followed Rush since i was 12 years old! I'm 54 now.. I have also followed Pink Floyd, Queen & Zeppelin .. Why state one is "better" than the other? They're ALL great in their own ways! .. They're very different in sound & vibe from each other.. Therefore claiming one is better than the other, is simply a matter of YOUR TASTE! Queen, Pink Floyd etc are just as great, in their own way & should be respected for their amazing impetus to music! Rush are very very special, i totally agree.. However, so are Pink Floyd, Queen etc, in their own sound!

I'm glad there are younger generations discovery the level of greatness RUSH gave the world in every aspect of their craft. Neal was not only the finest drummer that has ever gotten behind the skins but was the creative lyricist in the band. And helped drive the direction of his group. He was a published author of 5 or 6 books, and constantly throughout his life continued to study and learn from other drummer to perfect his technique in his craft. Of course Getty Lee is a phenomenal bassist and keyboardist and Alex Lifeson is the most over looked and under appreciated guitarist is rock. About bass players that were also lead singers, Phil Lynott, an Irish singer and song writer, founded the group Thin Lizzy. Great music, and I loved his voice. Several songs you might want to check out are "The Boys are back in Town" and "Jailbreak".

There music is something someone will hear 50 years from now and be blown out the water on. There music is generational .

"But glittering prizes and endless compromises shatter the illusion of integrity" They made a pack going into their last chance make it or break it album that they would do their music and not cave into their labels creative demands...and they were prepared to lose it all...so that bar kinda refers to those kind of compromises put upon artists and glittering prizes is of course the distractions of material wealth you get caught up in when you have success.

Except for the very first record The last 39 records have been with these three guys. That saying something right there! I grew up in high school listening to rush 40 plus years ago. They were as cutting edge as cutting edge could be in the prog rock world. And then they made the jump to mainstream radio with the song Spirit of radio. That's when high school kids would start walking down the halls and saying I like rush have you heard of Rush? They are a band that has always evolved but always stayed friends and very professional over the course of four decades. There's something to be said for that. Don't you think? I enjoy your comments very much. Thank you and keep up the good work

    Neil PEERT is the pronunciation.
Geddy plays bass, keys, occasional rhythm and lead guitars.
Alex plays guitars, mandola, pedal synth and very occasionally played a keyboard riff.
Jeff Jones filled in for two weeks in high school and was never a touring or recording member. He did, however, go on to play with Ocean (That's him on "Put Your Hand in the Hand") and then was bassist for Red Ryder and Tom Cochrane.
Rutsey played on the first album and did local shows but never toured.

Jay Rah, I really appreciate your being so open-minded to the amazing creativity, talent, craftsmanship, and lyricism of the mighty RUSH. Keep exploring! Check out "Subdivisions" next. The message about the awkwardness of youth (especially high school) will NEVER be outdated, and it doesn't hurt that the song just plain jams in a delightful way. It was a big rock radio hit they still play today. Even if u don't review, do yourself a favor and listen on your own. Bests, to ya.

This song is about CFNY radio in the Toronto area that played mainly alternative, independent artists that you couldn’t hear anywhere else. Their tag line was The Spirit of Radio. This was the first Rush song ever to play on that station.

    Hey,
    Jay Rah!
I watch all these Rush reactions because, duh, I love Rush (and this applies to lots of other bands too), and I love being there for someone's 1st discovery of a hidden gem that I already knew was there!
Watching your reaction today helped me catch something I never knew was there, and you missed it too.
(And this especially relates as to the best strengths of to rappers' bars.)
We all see the gilded cage lines but today on your reaction I caught one just as deep but more slippery (paraphrasing, here)...
"[Music broadcast to your ears, feeding your emotions] bearing a gift beyond price, almost free."
ALMOST free, we're all paying one way or another.
Love ya brother, keep it up.

Rush "TERRITORIES" always one of my faves. - and because I don't see you doing anything from the 2-album period of POWER WINDOWS and HOLD YOUR FIRE in the Mid 80's. Rush went through phases every few years, what makes them so enduring, they EVOLVED.

Bass players who were lead singers:
Phil Lynott of Thin Lizzy. Half white, half black, 100% Irish, and charismatic as hell.
Sting (real name Gordon Sumner) of The Police. (He went on to have a huge solo career, too.)
Benjamin Orr of The Cars. Most people think Ric Ocasek was the lead singer, but Orr sang most of their songs.
Jack Bruce of Cream. Eric Clapton did some singing, but Bruce sang most of their songs. Great bass player, too.
Of course, Paul McCartney of the Beatles played bass, and he and John Lennon split most of the lead singing duties.
