  • The video shows the timelapse of GDP share across the world from 1970 to 2024 (projections by IMF). Gross domestic product (GDP) is the total monetary or market value of all the finished goods and services produced within a country’s borders in a specific time period. As a broad measure of overall domestic production, it functions as a comprehensive scorecard of a given country’s economic health.

China started industrialization in 1953 and marketization in 1978. The United States, Europe and Japan were more than a hundred years ahead of China on the road to industrialization. Of course, if we look at the history of several thousand years, China was only about a hundred years behind. However, we still need to be more humble and diligent in the process of recovery.

However the period between 1978-1992 was a bumpy one to say the least. Lots of internal political struggles and debates regarding capitalism. Vague laws and regulations meant that factors of production weren't able to fully utilised and overall productivity was still very low. In addition, after the foiled 1989 colour revolution China was basically cut off from the international market as the whole West put on harsh sanctions on China. Pace of economic reforms really only picked up when Deng gave the famous Southern Tour speech in early 1992 in the aftermath of the Soviet Union collapse. It's nothing short of a miracle what China went through in the past 30 years.

I would say it’s because of infrastructure and more importantly education. In East Asian countries like China, Japan, Korea, Taiwan and others, people believes education can change life. Clearly China is not on the top list of education but to some extent the students’ general knowledge on math and science is one of the best in the world, so is India. Then if you just talk about being an engineer or a technician, Chinese must be on the top list. I think that’s why the GDP per capita in China can grow so fast to about 10k US dollars. As a result, the nation’s GDP can exceed EU. But the challenge is what’s next. I won’t be too optimistic on the continuous growth. My guess is the GDP will grow but will grow much slower, like a developed country, though China is currently at the border between a developing and developed country. I don’t think a general Chinese’s living qualify can reach the standard of that in other developed countries very soon.

Reasons why India is much behind China👇
      1) China started giving headstart to capitalism policies & bussiness boost around 1978, while India started it around 1992. (14 years late)
      2) China shifted its focus from agriculture sector to manufacturing sector. While India directly jumped to service sector (while service sector is impressive & attractive as it gives more salary than manufacturing, but services don't actually make more tangible value unless all of them ear foreign exchange)
      3) China's biggest earning sector is their manufacturing exports, while India has only *IT* & *pharmaceuticals* sectors earn foreign money, all other service sectors only circulate money round-and-round making no value.
      4) China first focussed on income equality, equal education for all & equal medical facilities. So when income gap became smaller. Then after economic boom, more and more people were financially similar.
      5) Indian politician focussed on freebie system to attract votes. So, poor people were getting free food & water. So they became more lazy & less competitive. When current govt stopped freebie system, most of poor people have no idea how to move forward now. Previous govt never taught them to earn money, they just taught them to ask for free things.
      6) Chinese govt doesn't bother about votes. Indian politicians focus on policies which will gain them another win in elections. So decision defer accordingly.

We complain about xenophobia in the west or in Asia, but Africa is on another level. You can be easily lynched in an African city, because you don't have the right ethnicity.
Secondly, the lack of responsibility for anything. When they do a genocide, they blame Europeans. When they are very corrupted and their elite steal their wealth, they blame Europeans. Electricity issue in a random African university, I shit you not, they asked the French president to fix it.

@Nationalistic Pole No. Germany, France and the UK are not untrustworthy. This war has pretty much proved this.
The US is one of our best allies, but it’s better for both sides to grow more independent. We’ll still have the best relationships, we’ll still stand together on international matters. We share common values and goals after all.
But we need to become stronger in order to stand to an equal footing to the US. We need to stand stronger in order not to be bossed around by ANYONE. We need to stand stronger, for when the time comes that the US focuses entirely on the pacific and China, we will not be left wondering what to do next.
We have the potential to be the most moral and strongest superpower out there. We just need some vision.
