Interactivity like the bread mechanic is awesome. I hope they do more stuff like that with all aspects of the game.
Ark Fatalis had the same mechanic.
Yeah the creating food reminds me of Gothic 2. Loved that game. Monomyth looks really solid and when you consider that a single guy is creating this it is amazing. Production quality is on par to a small studio.

@@messire9837 Hey don't be rude. Gothic wanted to bring back the realism of Ultima 7 according to the developers and Arx Fatalis was suppose to be the next instalment of Ultima Underworlds.

MonoMyth definitely gives off HUGE Arx Fatalis vibes, and through those, Ultima Underworld, another old school Dungeon Crawling favorite. More Underworld 2 I’d say, as when you die, you respawn; at Lord British if you die in the crystal world in Ultima. Whereas in MonoMyth, you respawn at the start, or at the last visited shrine, like in Dark Souls. You can even retrieve your memories once you respawn, regaining lost exp. This is good, as the respawning after death prevents the player from ever becoming completely stuck due to a bad save.
Anyway, MonoMyth is clearly taking many of the best aspects and influences from many of the best dungeon Crawling games, and is definitely well worth a wishlist and a watch!

@@mikecampos1193 KF1 and KF2 in US are KF2 and KF3 in Japan. The actual KF1 was Japan only but you can get a fan translation. King's Field : The Ancient City on PS2 was the 4th and last game.
Man, this is one of the most fleshed out Kickstarter/Early Access style demos I think ive ever seen!

That's pretty solid, the exploration looks satisfying and the take on crafting is a refreshing surprise. I'm glad you reviewed it even if it's not in early access yet, much deserved exposure imo.

Looks interesting. Little details like the bread baking are awesome. And I love the idea you had for the limited bandages. Sounds like a cool concept.
King's Field was first released on PlayStation 1. I rented it from Blockbuster, and man, what an awesome experience.

When you used that key you skipped a lot of enemies/exploring - that's why the enemies got so hard. Also jumping on the metal edged crates can lead to bonus loot.
This game seems pretty good. I really liked how you were able to mix water with the flour on the table and then actually bake the bread.

Those "King's Herbs" definitely are references to King's Field! They've got the same shapes and formations of the leaves as the herbs in King's Field!
i like the implication with the rivalry statement that dora wants to beat swiper to death with a cudgel
This game has TONS of potential. Very much reminds me of some of the classic Might and Magic games. Demo was fun and harder than I thought it would be. Wishlisted and we will see what happens. If you like dungeon crawlers, give it a shot!
What's amazing about games like this with immersion and agency is that this guy is playing the game differently than how i played it. We play it based on our respective personalities and feelings.
I absolutely love the feel of this game, it makes me want to make a character and just explore everything and bevome a God Warrior!

I think I played one day, for twenty hours straight of Kings Field or KF2…I can’t recall.
Brilliant game, glad someone thought to merge souls and kings field…KF was brutal with its design.

Kings field was one of the first games that ever really opened my eyes to what exploration games could be. The Ancient city was really ambitious but frustrating af (as we’re almost all games like it) but I bet with a guide or ‘the internets’ it would have been way more enjoyable exploring. This game looks like a lot of fun, I’ll be keeping an eye on it. Great video
I actually do my best not to infer to the internet because it ruins the immersion and problem solving. There is no wrong way there's just your way and mine.

Omg! This one I wanna see you play more of. It has so many surprises catching you off guard like accidentally breaking the key and the super zombie right off the back. I like that they don’t make it easy by allowing you to pick up their gear.

I’ve been playing MonoMyth as well, and it is Exactly as awesome as it appears!
And not just the Environmental Interactivity of moving blocks, lighting torches, and baking bread, but the excellent use of ambient sound, of MonoMyth not going the heavy soundtrack route, but instead encouraging listening for the sound of footsteps and foes as you explore your environment, and reacting to them as they creep closer; Intense and Engrossing.
It really pulls you into its Dungeon Crawling World.
I’ll definitely be getting this one!

This brings back memories of Eye of the Beholder, Dungeon Hack, and others. The baking bread, going as far back as Ultima 7, has me sold! I love these games. =]
I Pog faced at 10:05 when Splat was actually able to go up a short climb instead of being blocked by an invisible wall.
Not a whole lot of difference between covering a Kickstarter demo and covering an Early Access game, really. This looks pretty neat, though.
Depends on the game. Some Kickstarter demos are little more than proof-of-concepts and there's not much there to play with or even really comment on. Course, that can be said for a lot of EA games too, unfortunately.
The difference is that Kickstarter games are a little less likely to ever come into existence than something on like Steam Early access. For example, Night Dive Studio has been remaking System Shock (my favorite game of all time) on kickstarter for 5 years now with the original intended release being 4 years ago.
@@joewilson3393 Sure, but there have been more than a few E.A. games that have been in development hell, or left in an abandoned state. Buying into something before it's done always has that risk, I feel.

I *love* the bread aspect. I think... those bags of flour nearby might be grab-able. If so, you might be able to drop a bit on the counter. Infinite bread, you just have to work at it. The moldy bread might be a hint, though... It might not last long. There was a similar baking mechanic in one of my favorite games from back in the day; Cythera.
Honestly, this game does seem to check all the boxes, apart from looting the dead... I love just about everything else.
That flour + water = dough, dough lay it near fire source to bake bread is from Arx Fatalis. You can also bake pies by flattening the dough with a roller adding fruit on it then leave it near a fire source to make pie.

One day someone will come out with a Tactical Grimdark Cyberpunk Roguelike Dungeon City Builder, and when that day comes SplatterCat will be ready.
Like a split of "Dark Messiah of Might & Magic" with "Hexen II". I like it! :)
At this point, having watched Splatty for many years, this skill point thing has to be on purpose. He is much smarter than we think and he does it to drive engagement. Missing these things drives most people crazy and they just have to comment on it. This is a seasoned pro we're watching here. Every episode a gd masterclass.

honestly this looks to be the game that underworld ascendant completely failed at being ; RIP Looking Glass studios and the legacy of Ultima Underworld1/2 ; super sad that UA failed so miserably, but hopefully games like this can carry this genre forward in a better way =] ; Legend of Grimrock 1/2 are certainly excellent games
When he used the key on the chest and it broke, he didn't even try opening that same chest again! That's just like, the classic way of making sure you don't use the same key for everything! What's in the damn box?!
Maybe it's all coincidence but the intro story blurb had so many possible references. The Exiles from "Ariath" and King "Ferodin" bout to rides to Gondor's aid, but not before being betrayed by "Lysandria" cause King Dragon sends his regards.

8:08 Kings Field was still a damn good game in retrospect, still holds up really well if you're used to the Janky of Era controls, has all the spirit of the Souls games too. KingsField Walked so the Souls Series could run lol

Hmm using a bone as a weapon in the beginning and how you can bake bread by placing dough near fire, this looks like it was heavily inspired by Arx Fatalis. Lot of the items and things you can discover you can do with them are quite literal. The blood soaked bandage can be dropped into a water basin to wash them to get bandages. You can also turn off torches. A mechanic to hide in the dark, NPCs and enemies can't see you while the torches are out and you can do all sorts of sneaky things without having to fight.

Mmmmm....Looks like this game draws a lot on Ultima Underworld, which is FANTASTIC!
This one of those games where you have to keep a wiki guide open for it so you don’t miss anything important lol. But I usually like to play through once without a guide, then play through again WITH a guide so I can see how much I missed lol, it’s usually a lot.
Yes, this is totally Arx Fatalis. In that game you can put a raw fish near a fire and you get cooked fiah. You can combine poison with dough and make a bread to kill the gobin king. This game is totally going for that!
Looks like a pearl, I hope they put one or two damaging spell to the starting area - hate it to have to start with melee as a mage.. ô;ö
They did, I started as a mage and found what I needed after a bit. There is actually quite a bit of magic scattered around.
Still, I’ve always thought a mage should start with at least one damage spell; it never feels good specced for magic then starting absent it.
