    One thing that keeps me from van life is the need to have a workspace with a large monitor and ergonomic chair. Using one of the chairs in the cab and a small flip up table and laptop doesn't do it for the work I do. I've seen van builds with dedicated desk areas, big monitors and a decent chair, but they also take up a lot of space. It would be cool to see a build like this where, when the bed is flipped up, it turns into a dedicated desk somehow with a mounted widescreen monitor and area for keyboard and mouse. Maybe with a decent chair mechanism on the other half. Work by day, sleep by night, instead of trying to have both dedicated areas taking up room in the van at the same time.

      I like the way you're thinking! what about when the bed folded up a table folded out from the backside and the monitor was mounted to the bottom of the deck pad. The nice thing about the system is its versatility, and I know that that could be done on the underside of one of the beds. I just wonder if the other bed would work as a good seat for you depending on the height

    • @1Bamarider
      @1Bamarider Рік тому +2

      The chair is the challenge… a second panel built with a large monitor ( possible curved) and a fold down desk/keyboard segment would take up 4-6” using a secondary cantilever… for the chair a drop in pedestal may be an answer, or a heavy laguna style swivel could be an option.. the seat then becomes the last design hurdle. Modified camp chair that can fold away… 🤷‍♂️

    • @bernbe8915
      @bernbe8915 Рік тому

      just adjust the hight so one is the table and the other one is de chair, and place the matrasses any way that feels right and/or the necessary ergonomics on the one that is the chair. the computer can stay under and the screen(s) can fold down from the ceiling, or you can just place them up there and down again when you want make the whole bed, screens aren’t that heavy i think 🙏

      I'm thinking of a fold up desk that's mounted underneath one side of the Murphy bed. So put the Murphy bed down on one side leave the other side up and then fold that desk down from that. Should work. Haven't tried it yet but in theory it looks good

    Oh my god, I`m not alone. Just got here and finally found some reason and sense. Cheers for that, mate! Really appreciate your work and as others said, "I was figuring out myself how to solve many of theres issues before start built my own camper van. We already bought a Ford Transit to convert and we're totally aligned with these kind of project design. We have some different demands for the van so we decided not to "freeze" in one single layout neither that old, romantic and absurdly heavy Home Sweet Home mood. Beside that, as a little detail suggestion, I`ll put some holes in the bed in a grid way to save some - extra - weight, may somekind of thinner plank kind of that. Actually here in Brasil this would be an obsessive autonomy and economy approach ( 1 gallon = R$ 24,00 - US 6,00 aprox ) but also Offroad strategies. Keep goin and thank you for the great content!

    What is the width and length of the platform that the mattress sits on when in sleep mode - not including the short piece that it folds up onto when it’s in closed mode? And then what is the width of the platform that it rests on when it is in closed mode.

    • @VanMurphyBed
      @VanMurphyBed  3 місяці тому

      The lower deck is 23 1/2 inches wide. We leave a 2 inch gap between the two beds. The upper queen is 19 1/2
      Overall, I think it’s 63 inches wide, that’s determined by your van basically you’re going wall to wall less the paneling

      @VanMurphyBed  3 місяці тому +1

      Another good question!
      Mattress is your choice. We like the Roam Rest system, but you can use any Foam you’d like.
      In the picture, you’re saying the prototype truck, we started off with three studs, but were able to use two with a stiffening bar underneath the board. That lowers the cost and is just stable.

    I really like this, but I don't really know why? It is cool to see and have all that space, but what can you really do with it, and you still have to let it down when you want to sleep. I mean, it is great and looks fantastic/vantastic, but if you fill the under-space with stuff you cannot use that space with the bed raised up. Still, it is so clean and spacious.

    • @VanMurphyBed

      I guess the main thing is it gives you options, keeps you versatile. Being able to open it up and move things out easily, go to the lumberyard, move, large items, etc..
      Plus, it’s kind of cool to have an open space in your van when you’re traveling a lot. We’ve been on the road with it for 16 months in the last 2 1/2 years.

      Options ... yeah, I hear that. It allow you to get more use out of your van, but no necessarily on a daily or hourly basis. It's a really great design, no denying. I saw one lady who lived in her van doing the opposite, instead of having a bad she had a big adjustable easy chair in the back of her can. I've seen some recliners that would work perfect for that. And you could move it back and forth and rotate it around, and even take it out of the van.

    1. Can this be built based on a 144 body without adventurewagon kit?
    2. In addition to the brackets on both sides, I noticed that some boxes are also needed at the bottom to support it. Will this affect the installation of the electrical system and water system?
    3. Is there a dealer in the Los Angeles area that supports installation?

    • @VanMurphyBed

      The beds are designed to maximize space. So in order to fold them up, you need to remove the bedding, fold up and lock the bed then on top of the mattresses, you have space to place your bedding without interfering with the mechanism of the bed.

      I understand, I’ve been in the Furniture business for over 30 years and I get it. So there are options , first thing is we use medium density 100% latex cushions. Don’t bottom out and you are very comfortable. Second thing is you can use up to a 6 inch mattress, it just doesn’t fold down into bed system it will protrude 8 inches above the deck, so what happens is you can’t use a bunkbed system above it. The main thing is it’s got options.

      We haven't settled firmly on the price yet however it seems to be going Price for similar systems as far as beds go

      Very flexible and works in Ford and Mercedes. They can even be installed forward in the cab.

    Your father-in-law didn't come up with that idea. It's called a Murphy bed because some dude named Murphy a long time ago came up with that idea. And your father-in-law and your company certainly is not the first company to be applying that in a van.

      You’re right it’s not a new name. But it is a new concept in the designs of Murphy beds. The name helps people look for a folding design for their bed and our patented system shows a new and unique alternative to what’s available in the market.

      Not the masculinity do, it’s generally gas and snoring

      Interesting comment, it’s less expensive than most bed systems on the market currently and more versatile strong than anything that’s been developed yet
      Hard to find a system with four Murphy beds in one van
      And still maintain 48 inches of open aisle space
