  • Pro r/c glider pilot Paul Naton of Radio Carbon Art Productions flies his Euphoria F5J glider and shares some thermal soaring tips as the glider flies with onboard cameras. The cameras demonstrate the importance of flying smooth with a consistent minimal bank angle and steady speed control set with elevator trim. You can see how little the flight controls need to move while circling in lift and how the plane flies differently in lift and sink. The Euphoria and the training series Thermal Soaring Master Class 1 & 2 are available from soaringusa.com

Nice. I remember flying high performance hang gliders in the late 70’s early 80’s and if the thermal was not too rowdy the glider would self center and I would give a lot of pitch nose up. The kicker is if you flew out it was like going over a water fall.
