Vortex 3 Electro F5K Low Level Thermal Practice Session
www.soaringusa.com/ Pro pilot Paul Naton practices low level thermaling techniques with F5K contest tasks in mind. Part of the practice routine is to limit motor run time and try to minimize start altitude. This takes a lot skill and experience to hook thermals this low but the Vortex is so capable at this task. The Vortex 3 Electro and all the gear shown in this video are available from soaringusa.com. ORION V2 All-Arounder 2.4m Introduction and Equipment Choices
This video summarizes years of exsperiences , difficulties , efforts , conquests , time , bad languages, defeats , wins lived on my own skin . Don't know if I wuold have learn all by a video in one solution could hade give me the same taste . However , if you are not selftaught or stubborn, it's a great solution.
What did your CG end up being?
In the 70s my 8' gliders were hand built, had 2 sm. servos and flew thermals until I was tired of flying. so amazing to see how complex it is now to get the same thing I had.
Hi Paul, excellent video. I totally agree with you about "less is more". I have another thing about flying ... "Let that plane fly ..." Because any your input is drag. Plane know better than you in which air is flying, you only controll it and correct it if necessary, but plane in clean configuration, so all in center, is most efficent. All best from Czech Republic.
This could be my next build. Nice.
Why do you need a 9 channel radio? I count seven channels?
Would you be willing to sell this airplane,I lost my ability to build .
We can build you the exact same model... give us a call!
ok thank you, i guessing all ask for Paul. my name is Joel. i was l;ooking at the RCRCM, E ,TYPHOON PLUS X TAIL . which looks like ah identical clone, and its built with Carbon. Do they have a good reputation ? thank you
@@renaaccetta5275 Hi, yes these models are built by a great company, and the their models are great!
bro i was just searching by an layout on an game and this appears
Further is that you should run some exponential. Why? Because your servo operates (pushes and pulls) in/from a circular motion and therefore your controls will be more sensitive at center stick position and your control authority will "geometrically" soften as you add more and more stick movement. In other words your clevis is moving forward and back but also left and right as you transit around within the circular movement of the servo horn. In more other words: a servo horn actually causes negative/reverse exponential because you are pulling and pushing around a radius. You've got your servos movement at maximum which I completely agree with but it accentuates what I'm saying here via causing reverse or negative exponential which makes your controls hotter near center stick position and your controls become softer and softer as you increase your stick movement. I use about 10% or so to even out the control response throughout the full stick movement. It's a stickler thing yes but, so is all that you've mentioned within the video.
Excellent tips! Very well explained! 👏
Not very good
Yes it is
Magnifique Thank you from France
Thank you very much for the very good explaining!
Nice. I remember flying high performance hang gliders in the late 70’s early 80’s and if the thermal was not too rowdy the glider would self center and I would give a lot of pitch nose up. The kicker is if you flew out it was like going over a water fall.
Very well explained...many thanks
You did a really good job explaining, and visibly demonstrating each topic here with regard to sailplanes - thank you!
Dumb question, But are the wings bolted to the fuse, or taped? If Taped, How and what lol
If you never found your answer; taped wings typically have a spar joining them through the fuse. The tape only keeps them from pulling apart from each other. The spar provides all of the strength.
Excellent Video Paul
Questions re fuselage setup: I do not see the castle BEC. Did you change your mind? Ecalc show that motor /prop setup at over 600 watts on 3s. Well above the current handling of the esc. Are you limiting output with the throttle curve?
