An Object Lesson on Immanuel and how Jesus came in an Unexpected Way

🍌🥬🥕Bethy offers an Object Lesson for Kids on the Unexpected way that God does things, specifically on Jesus coming into the World as Immanuel, God with Us. God does things very differently than we would do them, and that's because He knows all things, He sees the whole timeline, and His timing and ways are perfect. This Scripture is found in Isaiah 7:14 and then quoted in the New Testament about Jesus in Matthew 1:23.

2) Look up Matthew 1:23, How do we know that Isaiah was talking about Jesus?
3) What do you think God would have done to come and be with us?
4) How did Jesus come?
5) Why do you think that Israel was so surprised when Jesus came the way He did?
6) Why did Jesus come the way He did?
7) Did God have Jesus come in the right way?
8) Can you think of another unexpected way God works?
9) Do you have an expectation that God will do something a certain way in your life?

Lesson Notes:
Here are the instructions for this lesson so you can reproduce it for your kids or class.
Materials:
-Cookie tin, or something similar... maybe a candy bag
-Fruits and Veggies to hide inside the tin
Directions:
-Hide the fruits and vegetables in the tin before the kids arrive.
-Think of a few other "unexpected surprises" that you could share during class, maybe jumping out in surprise or wearing something silly.
-Link Immanuel with the unexpected ways that God does things. If you and I think we know what's best, or how we think God would do something, we should be careful not to get stuck in the rut of thinking that God will do things in exactly the way that we think. He know WAY more than we do and does things differently than we do.
