      I hate most newer vehicles. I'd rather buy an old truck made before 2005 and have it fixed up to like new condition. They seem to be doing everything they can to try to make vehicles less reliable, there is no way I'm trusting a sensor that can screw up to tell me if my vehicle has oil.

      I know plenty of cars 20-25 years old now that have original sensors still working. Sure a few have gone bad but a CEL or similar will tell you that and you just replace it. Recently did a cylinder head temp sensor on my F-150 after a warning came up. $30 and 1 hour later it was working again.

    This is a feature that dealers have been waiting for. They can now comfortably charge you for an oil change and not do it.

    • @LifeAfterLosing
      @LifeAfterLosing 3 місяці тому +3

      The sensor would tell you that the oil needs to be changed. It’s not based on mileage, the sensors can tell how much life is actually left in the oil. I have a car that does it now and it’s crazy how long it can go before it says it needs an oil change, but the oil is clean and in good shape even when it says it’s ready. Synthetics are pretty amazing these days.

    • @Lalokera0629

      I would agree with that only it’s the other way now with oil pressures being much higher now you will most likely see oil in the cooling system before you see coolant in the oil. Also you will get exhaust gasses in the cooling system before the coolant mixes with oil now too.

    • @throttlethumb150
      @throttlethumb150 Місяць тому

      @LifeAfterLosing I'm not trying to be mean but you obviously do not work on vehicles . Do not believe all the hype of how long can go without an oil change with synthetic. myself and many other mechanics can tell you the catastrophic failures of many engines from all manufacturers from doing oil changes by oil life monitors. I am a firm believer in synthetic oil but these direct injected engines fully enclosed crankcase ventilation systems end up allowing too many deposits to be built up in various areas with very tight tolerances meaning sensors actuators valves you name it I've seen it you may be a lucky one but there are many that are not my advice never ever go over 5,000 miles on oil changing in a gasoline engine. Then again if you're a person that's just gets a new vehicle every couple years anyways you'll probably be safe.

      Oil is rarely filled in the same location as the dipstick/dipstick tube. Most engines have a separate oil fill and dipstick. So, this engine retains the oil fill but eliminates the dipstick. There are some engines that do have a dipstick attached to the oil fill cap though, so the oil is installed and checked at the same place.

When my new Rams digital dash would not boot up on negative temp cold days until I was halfway to work I sold it. Digital dashes and climate control not being physical buttons means you cannot do anything when they fail and in Ram's they fail often too. This is needless junk that's truly a gimmic at best and longterm its a trucks death sentence. Nobody thinks this is technology moving in the right direction by way of creating more failures down the road and for me that road was two years.

    Changing functions on vehicles to being electronically controlled is something that auto manufacturers probably believe is cool or convenient for the consumer but what they do not think about is the fact that electronics eventually fail. The more electronics the more expensive the fix. Pickups should be reliable and easy to service. They were meant to be a tool for work or play. Manufacturers are leaving this idea now.

    Unfortunately, senior management at the auto maker is out of touch with their customer, so when the design teams get together and try to dream up more stupid stuff to add (or delete), this is what we get.

    Why does it seem as though Ram is purposely trying to make certain that the truck fails in every single way possible? 1. Pricing themselves out of the market. 2. Making it harder for the typical consumer/ driver to comprehend their own vehicle by over technologically advancing the vehicle to the point where it is not even functional to the intended purpose for the vehicle. 3. Not listening to their customers actual concerns.

      Because it's a French company and they don't understand the American consumer and they never have. When was the last time a French automaker was successful in our market? Never. You're better off with an American or even Japanese manufacturer for a fullsized truck. The French don't have a clue.

I'd like to know if there is actually an oil level sender. I'm guessing it's just a fake gauge to make people feel better. I've been leasing lately, because I don't want to actually own any of this stuff long enough to find out.

    What about the design of the level indicator? That horizontal bar starts from the L at 0 and moves to the right to 7. You said Full but the level is 0. This seems completely opposite, poor User Interface design that hinders understanding. Are you supposed to pay attention to the not-indicated "black" background color, or the bright red bar? For example light up the measured oil level in blue perhaps. If the lack of oil needs to be a color, consider a gradient of green, yellow, red. And assign a number to it, so that we can take a specific reading. How about a special odo for tracking miles since the last oil change?
    Thanks for listening.

    Electronics can fail but these days it is unusual. I personally like everything about the 2025 Ram 1500s. The interior is very comfortable, the ride is smooth, it is quiet inside and out, and the power is amazing out of this inline 6!!! SST :)
    Straight Six Turbo!!!!!!!!!!:) The new way to check your oil!, I take it as one less thing to worry about because the computer is doing it all for me.:)

    I had an Audi that you checked the oil with the computer… I was like “what if that malfunctions?” … well don’t you know it, at 30,000 miles I had to replace the thing that checks the oil. Yeah the feature is cool but all they had to do is leave the dipstick so you could do both, it couldn’t cost that much for a dipstick, as far as doing it for cost savings as others have stated, oh wait they may have other motives though huh?
