  • My last couple of videos have been more analytical, some even having a more academic style to them with my approach. With that, I’ve noticed, and I’ve also experienced the fact that on the Internet, people tend to lean more towards making and watching content that critiques TV shows, films, music, people, you name it. And listen, I am all for constructive criticism, and I love watching videos with opinions that differ from my own. However, I wanted to start doing videos where I simply talk about things I love, without making it too complicated. Of course, everything I’ve talked about so far on this channel I do love, and that’s why I talked about that stuff, but I want to be more openly positive. So, I need to talk about Heartstopper…

    02:00 - Why I Love Heartstopper

Agree with most of your comments, I do like the soundtrack though. And it seems to me all the songs were carefully chosen to serve some purpose. Perhaps more subtly than the two you mentioned.

“Everything is pretty profound while still being easy to digest” really puts into words how I feel about a lot of the themes in Heartstopper. Oseman finds a way to discuss topics like biphobia, EDs, etc without it feeling like overwrought emotional porn which, especially in today's media landscape, is not an easy thing to do. I also find it intriguing how, in my view, many queer people who are past their teenage years have a sort of patronizing attitude towards the show. I think this probably has to do with the fact that, like you said, the show does not center sex as the characters' motivations or as a cornerstone of their queer identity, which is new for queer media.

I am currently watching the second season with my boyfriend and it's been so good! We both see ourselves in many stories told even if we're closer to 30 yo than 20. The show is so well written, every scene has a purpose and feels so real, it almost has me in tears every episode. Elle is everything btw

Hey! Been a fan of your content for a few years now, started with your drag race videos in the pandemic; love them, if you ever think about coming back id be thrilled to watch your drag content once again. But for now lets talk about this channel and what a blessing this is, literally everything I consume from the Eurovision SC to Heartstopper and Glee, wow, just impressive how you can really like all the same stuff as me but with a different and unique approach. Please do more Glee content, about the plots and your hot takes. Bye.

Thank you for pointing out that Charlie’s parents were right for being parents and making their 15 year old son do his homework. Seriously, it’s not homophobia, it’s parenting.

I agree with much of what you're saying here. I hesitate to say it, but I have one reservation regarding the acting. I find that most of Darcy's lines, through both S1 and S2, sound like they are memorized rather than spontaneous.

I'm an older guy, 42, and I love that they have teenagers playing teenagers. It always creeps me out when I watch shows that involve graphic sex acts even when the actors are in their 20s because it just feels gross. The actors are 24, sure, but they're playing a 16 year old. Gross. I also love that everyone isn't in a rush to do drugs, drink or have sex. Not all of us went to pound town at 15 and it's refreshing to see something where sex isn't the ONLY aspect of it. Not to mention the conversations on boundaries on sex were great. I want to, just not yet. It's wholesome and wonderful.

love your review!! i agree with basically everything you said. i've become so fatigued with hearing miserable people saying the show isn't realistic just because it refuses to have a pessimistic outlook. i'm still in shock even after season 2 that we have this show where so many identities are represented and more importantly it's done with love and care. also that tara and darcy scene with seven playing ruined me

I just love you takes on things
The only thing I would add to this video is the aspect of the teacher storyline.
I just love how this series depicts a relationship between two adults as similar akward, unsure and innocent as they do with the teenagers. Me an adult and former child can very much confirm that being grown up changes anything about how you act around someone who you really care about ( Or maybe that's just me)

I find the first season cute, just didn't vibe with the second one. I appreciate some things about it tho, like the closure with Ben was so strong and even bold for the series, Elle's journey was really the only one that captivated me honestly, but overall it just not for me.
and i probably got intoxicated with the new interview with the vampire show, and wholsome queer things just isn't working anymore lol
