Nice informative video Marty, all the newcomers I'm sure appreciate it. It was just one year ago we started with a Carrera Go!!! track. Now I'm pretty well invested, with plenty more to come. Happy race to my friend 💯🏁
Hi Marty, just returned from my job at sea and so was out of the loop for a bit and just now catching up on my favorite hobby. My “catch-up” would be incomplete if I didn’t include a kudos to one of our top ambassadors. Thanks again brother for all you do and a Happy New Year! Chris
It is a great way to get kids off of video games for a while, as well! I keep a couple of damaged cars for newbies or teens who are more likely to send them flying across the room. 😂
Thanks, I hope you have a great New Year too! Clint, I think with the Carrera NASCAR release, we will see a bunch of new friends in the hobby! I just want them to have a great experience!
Nice one Marty. I can tell you are really excited for everyone that’s new to the hobby, it’s really lovely. Hope you get some new followers that enjoy your videos and learn some new things and above all, share in the fun. Cheers, AW
Amazing advice - if your reading the comments wondering if this guy knows what he's on about then yes he does!!! Follow those 5 tips and you'll have a ball with your new track.
Sometimes we get so excited about new people in the hobby, we want to help them so much that we forget to tell them to have fun!! I have done it before… you need to buy more parts, build a bigger track, try new cars, tune cars to get the most out of them, buy new controllers… then I remember.. wait.. just enjoy where you are at this moment!!
@ I think we are all guilty of being too keen on giving out too much advice too soon. Like you said the number 1 piece of advice is to have fun in the hobby how you want too! whether that’s tuning, admiring the model, just running laps, scenery etc. Each to their own.
HAPPY NEW YEAR MARTY and Fellow Slotterheads. Marty, thank you for being such a genuine person. I really appreciate your enthusiasm with regards to wanting to be sharing GOOD information for individuals starting out in this hobby. Cheers
@@twolinesslotcars Digital is good, but all the other hot rod brands of slot cars that arent digital.....Chips @ 40+ a pop....I like the racing better than digital features.
Good video Marty, 60 year old kid hear was into HO at 7 or so and collected a couple sets over the years when i started working then life happed as with most of us and slots got lost in many moves in my life then i got cought up in R/C in the 80s boom and collected a small fortune in everything radio control and then everything changed after the big sickness happened i got board the got out my old 1/43 Kyosho dnano in storage and bought more of them and 3 tracks for them that popped up on eBay, then seen they had made 1/43 slots for a couple years and bought some of them thinking the bodies would fit on the RC chassis but they didn't. Then just before Christmas this year i see a video of slot car guy doing a review on a Carrera Go F1 set and they're wireless and 1/43 i snagged one up so i could now use the Kyosho cars. Now just days after Christmas 24 spent a lot for about 130 ft of track😂 i think i have a sickness LoL. Great video and a new sub. I know its overkill buying so much track, i did the same with the Dnano's, but i like having more track for more different track layout configurations when i get board.
You are not alone in this sickness! Bought a starter set and within a month… I had a table, 100 feet of track, a handful of cars and a UA-cam channel! 😂
Hey Marty as a veteran slot car collector/ Racer for over 49 years your video was very informative and very well said. Thank you another great video and Happy New Year too you and your family. Keep it in the slot fellow slot head.🏎🏎🏎
For Christmas, when the kids came I bought 2 cheap " good " sets and a damaged return and put together. It kept the kids away from an over priced N scale Japanese train. It's on the floor at the moment and wife saying it can't stay there. The sets look like ultra cheap Carrera knock-off copies from China Total cost about $ 60 US Seriously, good fun.
Thanks Frankie.. I was sitting at home on Christmas thinking about all of the new a lot car tracks being played with that day.. and how the hobby has the opportunity to grow if we take good care of our beginners!
100% Marty, creators like you and others showing the way for new and old slotters. So many including myself was very confused and what direction to go in. Wealth of knowledge you share. A must for all your channel is. Cheers
Great tips for beginners new to your channel .. sort of .. subbed ya little bit ago but to be honest have not watched too many of your videos .. Running HO that probably the main reason but that should change See ya Marty
Hey Marty I have a question, have you ever connected 2 Carrera powerbase at the same time, one analog and one digital, but only sending power to one at a time. I know the analog base needs to have the polarity reversed so the cars run the same direction as the digital. And the lane changers will not be damaged when having only the analog on. But can I leave the digital base connected but not powered while running analog? And vice versa. Or I physical need to remove one power base before running. Thanks!
I would go with the digital CU and then build/purchase a digital to analog convertor. TekSlot Box, AxelBox or OmniSlotBox are all good choices. I built my own, so did SlotR.. both of us released videos about our builds.
@twolinesslotcars oh sure I do have a TekSlots box. My question is for one of my followers in Brazil, because they dont have these boxes for sale there or it would be extremely expensive. So I was thinking more lika a workaround kind of thing 😄
So here is my thought on running analog and digital on the same track. I am only guessing.. I have not tested this.. when running digital.. I don’t think there is anything much more than wiring going on in the analog track piece. So as long as the power is not on.. the track should carry the voltage through.. but when you flip analog on and turn digital off.. the polarity is opposite.. and I would be concerned about power feeding back into the CU.. also.. in the digital CU the lanes are jumpered together.. meaning that both lanes are connected to each other.. you would have to open the CU up and remove the jumpers. You would also need to remove the jumpers in any corner lane changers because they are tied together as well. You would need lane isolation for analog. You would probably want to put a switch in between the CU and the wires going to the rails in the CU so that you could protect the CU. You also would not be able to share controllers between the two systems. Those are my thoughts..
This is probably the most important information for someone new to the hobby. Great time to be here!!
I agree - there's lots to learn! But learn to have fun first!
Wise words for the newcomers to the hobby to listen to and learn from.
I think we all need to remember why we love the hobby! It’s fun!

Great advice, Marty. After all these many years, I still recall buying my first set. Scalextric that came with two GT40s. Magic!
That was a great set to start with! John, what a great start in the hobby!

If I had only known, I wouldnt have bought digital. Granted it can be switched over to analog.
But Ive got all these digital cars.
I understand Brad.. I bought digital as well. Nothing wrong with it.. just gets expensive when you want to buy other brands of cars..

Is your track a 4 lane digital 143? Did you use a digital 132 control unit adapted for the 143 track?
I am digital/analog 132..
