The Queen’s funeral was not just a display of religious solemnity, a choreographed military and global VIPs, it was also a steady transfer of power. That’s the view of The Daily Mail’s consultant editor Andrew Pierce, who tells our royal talk show Palace Confidential, that the continuity of the hereditary monarchy was an unspoken, but key element to the day. ‘When the Queen is interred in Windsor Castle, the orb’s taken away, the sceptre, the crown, she goes into the ground as almost one of us, a mere mortal,’ he tells our royal talk show Palace Confidential. ‘And when you saw George and his little sister there, you realise that’s the monarchy’s moving on already. You’ve got the King, the Prince of Wales, his heir, and then George and I think it was right to have him there.’

I admire Ann, and her decency and kindness to her wonderful mother and now her suffering brother. She is a daughter and sister that I wish I had.

This was the Queen’s funeral. Not about Harry and Meghan! For once the media was concentrating on what mattered the events of the day!
So admire Princess Anne, she never left her Mothers side from start to finish, what a strong and dedicated lady she is ♥️

Many people not from the Commonwealth seem to think the soldiers are some sort of non combatant ceremonial guard. All of them are frontline soldiers except for the bandsmen.

Yes, I thought it was absolutely brilliant, the last walk up the hill to Windsor castle, my respect. To keep pace the whole time, some in the procession were not so young. What an experience for people participating and for people watching this!

Can we pause for a moment and consider how emotionally exhausted this family must be - 12 days of very public appearances, with barely a moment to themselves for “ugly crying”, which is what I am sure I would have been doing! Brave and dignified all the way.

Ugly crying. A funny phrase. But when my mother passed. My sisters had to fix me up, The massive crying when you realize you are kind of an orphan. It must be so hard to fulfill all these obligations, when you are mourning an important part of your family.
Stoic. I agree with the ugly crying comment. We've all probably gone thru something like this. Feelings of heart break are not just towards one's family. We, especially women, cry feelings of sympathy, warmth, feelings, and just a sense of comradearie during times of grief. It should hit us all because it's what we all have in common. That little "old" young lady I found to be super cute. Just something about how she appeared in public was genuine.
Why would you care? oh no poor Rich people, they have such a hard life, all that staff doing everything for them the guards having to stand there for hours on the tax payer money, wow so exhausting having to be driven back by their chauffeurs to their palace of staff and everything catered to them hand and foot.

they both looked genuinely sad, and felt the solemnity shared. They were so respectful in their posture too, a beautiful family all of them for sure. They are definitely the brightest stars.
Archbishop Welby's sermon was so apparently simple. But profound and 100% on point.

For me the bag pipe's Lament brought tears to my eyes. I don't know who that young man playing was but he did his Queen proud. The pall bearers were outstanding. A great job by everyone and my deep condolences to the whole family.

As a 60 year old Canadian, I was up quite early and watched it all, much like all the other Royal Funerals and Weddings. Beautiful services, lovely and haunting music, stunning soldiers and marching. How awful for The Royal Family for loosing both their parents in a span of 17 months. Blessings and prayers to The Royal Family during this time. Her Majesty will be missed.🙏🇨🇦
Being 65, I also was up early to watch the funeral of Her Majesty. Over the years I have watched the weddings and funerals of other Royals. A very moving tribute to Her Majesty. May she Rest in Peace with the members of her family who have passed before her. 🇨🇦

The Pall bearers have been immense!They never faltered under the enormous weight of HMs coffin. They had a huge & indeed honourable task to do over 10 days & they were absolutely rock solid! Such fine young men & for me they shone out with exemplary duty & literally deserve a medal for their heroic performance. I hope they receive some sort of honours... well earned!

The coffin weighed 500 pounds whereas Winston Churchills was a 1000 so in theory it was fairly lightweight being lead lined.
I heard a commentator say the coffin alone weighed 300 kg (660 pounds) so it must have been a challenge to carry it along and up the stairs.
Those eight pall bearers did an excellent job. They had so much responsibility not only for the coffin but also to make sure nothing fell off the top of the coffin.
Everything was quite firmly attached. I noted when the Orb, especially, was placed on the altar it has like a spike on the underside and the priest made sure it was set firmly into a receiving slot
The fact that it’s lined with lead it required a lot of strength…and they made it look effortless.
The CROWN, ORB, AND SEPTRE WERE SECURELY ATTACHED TO
THE TOP OF THE OAK COFFIN BY SPECIAL BRASS FITTINGS! TRUST ME, THOSE PRICELESS ROYAL JEWELS COULD NEVER FALL OFF! (THE CROWN HAS A 300+ CARAT DIAMOND, & THE SEPTRE, A 541 CARAT DIAMOND!!!!! "THE STARS OF AFRICA"- large and small).
@@CLVELES Apparently the coffin weighed 36 stones, that's 228 kilos...!! I should think the Queen's body weighed very little, she was so tiny towards the end of her life...
Not to forget the Scottish pallbearers doing the same job in Edinburgh.
I was up all night watching the funeral. It was such a historical event and the Pomp and Ceremony and Pageantry were like nothing I have seen in my lifetime. I admit to crying at several points. The hearse passing her Corgis just had me sobbing. I could not believe how the people came out and waited in line for hours to pay respect to their Queen. It was just amazing. I am an American and have been a big fan of the Monarchy for many, many years.

From an American-Prince George & Princess Charlotte are 2 of the best behaved, beautiful children I’ve ever seen. Speaks very well of how well their parents have been hands on parents. Their children know they are loved.

But so many other moments for me as well - the lengthy aerial footage of her hearse travelling from Edinburgh to London. Her people able to follow each mile of her final journey. Elizabeth's four children, in slow-step, behind the gun carriage. The lone piper. The panoramic crowds, come to honour and pay their respects. King Charles in the final moments, as his mother's coffin lowered. Prince Edward's visible sorrow. Even the Royal Flag draped across her coffin set me off. And when the patch of the Queen's Regiment was placed on her coffin. (I may not have all the terms quite right.) But certainly a landmark event for our generation - as Queen Victoria's funeral procession was for a previous one.
Beautiful funeral and farewell tribute. Every detail was captivating and impressive. I was specifically moved by the bag pipe music. She will be sorely missed.

Dignified, humble, and beautiful at the same time. The Queen was a part of the Greatest Generation and her sense of duty during WWII is and always will never be forgotten.
I saw a documentary and they said she actually drove into the line of fire during the war. She was truly brave. They also mentioned the intruder who came in her room and how she kept her composure.

I think that the children were old enough. My 1st funeral was when I was 4. My father and cousins were kind. My father explained death in a comforting way. It’s one of my sweetest memories of him.
I don’t believe I’ll ever see anything more spectacular in my lifetime. The British people should be very proud. The history, the respect paid to such a remarkable Queen by her entire Kingdom. I don’t think any other country 🇬🇧could ever pull off such an event. Well done.

I'm glad that George & Charlotte attended their great-grandmother's funeral. It's so very important to allow children to see the rituals & process the passing of a loved one, especially if they were close.

I agree. When my daughter was young, my mother's husband died suddenly from an aneurysm. He was very much a grandpa to her. We were in shock and made decisions quickly and one of them was not to bring the children to the funeral. My Mom was distraught and said she didn't want the children to be distressed. I just did as my Mom asked. My daughter is very intelligent and was quite mature and insightful for her age. She was upset that she was not there. She's 37 now and has always maintained that it was a mistake and we regret it. With a little planning, sensitivity and cooperation, measures can be taken to allow children to attend a funeral, say goodbye, experienced closure as well as the love and support with their family and community.
@@jhart3983 When my brother passed away almost five years ago, his grandchildren were all present at his funeral. His 11 year old grandson, read the 23rd psalm, the almost five year old put a train on his grandad’s coffin because he thought grandad probably went to heaven on a train. His three year old granddaughter called out bye bye grandad. Having them there helped us all, particularly my mum. It showed the circle of life, and that my brother wasn’t totally gone whilst his children and grandchildren were around.
I was at my greatgrandpa's funeral, when I was 9 like George. Ive never forgotten. I was and am very happy, that I got to say goodbye, and that I got to hold my grandma's hand, as she cried, watching her father's coffin being lowered into the grave.
Dying is a fact of life. Children understand. Whether its a beloved grandparent or a family pet, I think, its important, that children are allowed to be part of it, to say goodbye and to feel part of the family, instead of feeling as an outsider not allowed to show grief, as a friend of mine described it, when she was not allowed to say goodbye to her grandmother.
Exactly. It will be something they remember for the rest of their lives. The memories of their great-grandmother, and attending her historic funeral in one final goodbye, will still be with them when they eventually become working royals and are representing the nation themselves. Similar to how the Queen remembers her grandfather's jubilee celebrations, and her father's coronation when she was a little girl.
i attended my mother's funeral when I was 6 years old, I was asked if I wanted to go and I said yes. It was the best thing for me to attend the funeral. It was significant for me to realise that I would not see her again, she wasn't going to walk in to a room at home or meet me at the school gate. Every parents has to judge whether or not their child is emotionally mature to handle a funeral of a loved one. But for me it was a healing experience.
This was such a beautiful send off for Queen Elizabeth 11. Everything was done with taste and it was something one sees only once in a life time.
I'm from the States. While I watched the funeral I was struck about how the media focused on the family. I appreciated that very much. In older clips I 've seen world leaders marching behind and the family seemed to get forgotten in the clutter. This was truly a family farewell and so much more meaningful. Condolences to all, even we loved your Queen.

The media focused on taking jabs at Harry and Meghan and what Catherine was wearing more then they did the Queen herself.
From America. I watched the state funeral of Queen Elizabeth II. I was struck by how much it focused on the family. You could see the emotions on their face; they lost a beloved mother, grandmother and great grandmother. I could see King Charles holding back tears when the national anthem was played. The lone bagpiper brought tears to my eyes; it reminded me of my grandmothers funeral.
I think that Prince George and Princess Charlotte were brought along to the funeral, not only to give them chance to say goodbye to the Queen but also to present them to the world as being in the direct line of succession to the throne of the United Kingdom.

I really feel that Queen Elizabeth II may have missed Phillip a lot more than we realized. Doing all these birthdays and jubilees without him, took more of a toll on her heart than many of us realized.
I think when they finally make the COD public ppl will be truly amazed at the strength it too for her to carry out her Royal duties right til the end. Some of us who follow Lady C already know COD the Queen was definitely one strong woman. 🥲
As a Canadian I shed some… actually holding lots of tears back… as a women she reigned for 70 years from WWII in a changing world was truly remarkable. The funeral, the service, the guards were immaculate as it felt almost like a movie and yet it was live… I watched from the moment our beloved QEII passed on till today.. and every day was most respectful from the royal family and the people of the great UK.. thank you for making such memorable and loving tribute as it will be marked foverver history. ❤🇨🇦

It was the right thing to include young George and Charlotte in the events to help them understand not only loss and grief, but also their unique place in history. The will come away with a better understanding of their family and their role in society. George was quite surprised that everyone was talking about his granny's passing and funeral. He didn't have a clue just how important the Queen was and that both he and his father will be elevated to that status.
Didn't they do well. Such lovely children.
Personally I think they were still too small.....i just hope it doesn't leave a permanent scar like it did with Harry....just my humble opinion.

We have also done this but while they have to be a bit strict , generally other funerals look at the fun times they have had together so once you explain this to the young people they do relax and laugh when people tell of the funny times everyone had together

As an American, the impact of this was still so utterly powerful. The queen took the throne the same year my mother was born. She was a figure of poise and grace for seventy years, and in my opinion she struck a well-balanced chord for ‘working royals’ in how to conduct themselves in their position. She was a leader who accepted her humanity, admitted her mistakes, but did not crow over her successes. As she aged, she grew more comfortable in her skin and showed the younger generation that humor has a place in royal life.

I was looking at films of previous royal funerals and noted the pallbearers. Perhaps it was because of the many upward steps but they were not nearly as graceful with the coffin as were the 8 strong lads who carried Queen Elizabeth II. She was transported with such care and perfection from start to finish. Such an honour for those men.

This was such a beautifully well orchestrated display which only U.K. can manage.Respect and dignity from start to finish, everyone performed their rolls to perfection.Those pallbearers did a magnificent job, not easy going at such a slow pace then setting the coffin down so gently.It was lovely to see little Prince George and tiny Princess Charlotte there to remember their loving grandma and perfectly behaved for a long service.You could see the pain on each of the families faces, especially Sophie and Edward shedding a few tears, it's only natural. I had 2 gulp moments..1) When they took the Crown, Sceptre and Orb off the coffin and put them on the alter. 2)When they sang the Royal Anthem and Charles bit his lip…I thought it was an amazing event and the genuine grief of the family has brought them nearer and deeper in the hearts of the people.

I saw King Charles bite his lip and thought it was both very emotional combined with the thought he was making sure he did not sing the anthem himself. After all the years of singing it must feel strange to have it sung to yourself.

The entire funeral service was beautiful and elegant. I think that everyone carried themselves well.
Those kids did a great job. So mature and well behaved after a stressful long week. It shows their character. I think they will have really great lives. They have parents doing a wonderful job. Kids learn by example.

Elizabeth's funeral was deeply powerful and almost beyond words to truely describe. Her children and extended family showed incredible unity and strength in a limelight that none of us will ever experience. It was very fitting for George and Charlotte to attend and I was deeply moved to see her Pony Molly and her Corgies at Windsor.. The perfect funeral for a Queen. May She Rest in Peace.

I loved seeing her corgis! I thought that was a sweet gesture considering how much she loved them. The riderless horse standing watch as the procession came into Windsor was also very fitting.
What a beautiful funeral! The procession was so grand. It was an immense undertaking and perfectly done. The colors all around, the uniforms so utterly impressive. The family behaved wonderfully. The Queens last wreath on her coffin was spectacular! I was so happy to see the pinks. And I will miss her so much. She was indeed a very grand individual.
I suddenly realized mid way through the march, that there weren’t any pop stars scheduled to be singing. Really refreshing

I lined the route to watch the Queen on her last journey. It was very moving, everyone was lovely and seemed hopeful for our new King.

I'm an Indonesian, not directly connected again with the British since 1948 but everytime I see the funerals of senior Royal members my heart goes out for it until right now when HM Elizabeth passed away, I'm stunning on how people loved and respect for her 7 decades dedications to the Throne until her last breath. So compared Her Majesty's longtime accomplishment vs some kinda spotlight hunter who failed to launch soon maybe not in the perfect moment right now. Or maybe won't. I certainly remember the day of the queen’s coronation. It was my mother’s birthday, and it was also the day that my grandfather died. I was an 11 years old Texas girl, and everything about that day made a really lasting impression on me. I have always been a devoted fan of Her Majesty. She was an amazing woman.
I woke up at 4am early morning and watched the entire funeral of our Majesty the Queen's final farewell. It was something we will never witness again, that grandeur and elegance. Our queen totally deserved to receive such high caliber send off from the citizens. May you Rest in Peace your Majesty.

The Yank's are always the only one's who insist on handling the security of their chief, it's easy to do when you know that the best security service in the world has actually got it covered... True. It was the most amazing thing I've ever see. That drumbeat, all those wonderful sailors' marching pace, this colour, the horses, the SILENCE,EERIE,with so many there. The utter precision of it all, not a glitch that I could see. It was a HERCULEAN effort, and they did it beautifully.you can only be amazed that it was such a serious occasion, but in spite of all the pomp and ceremony,there was a simplicity as well.
YOU SERVED YOUR LITTLE QUEEN BEAUTIFULLY,all of those who took part,and the crowds showed respect and love. It was so moving, and we'll never see the likes of it again. It was history making, and I'll never forget it. And, as usual, Britain did it well,as ONLY Britain can do.

The most moving image for me.. is the bag piper playing and walking away as the sound grows more distant. This happened at Prince Philps funeral and struck me then as well. The Queen loved bagpipes, the Prince not so much. I wish King Charles much success and hope there are more nations to join the Commonwealth to keep the monarchy busy until Prince George's children are ready to take the throne! Really have enjoyed seeing Camilla as well.

George and Charlotte weren't the only children. Peter's girls came and Mia Tindall and they all behaved impeccably. We all know Savannah can be a bit of a wild child, and she behaved very respectfully. You can tell they all had a loving relationship with their great-grandmother, and were set on honoring her. James, Viscount Severn is still rather young, and he really stepped up, especially performing the vigil. He seems such a shy young man. Well done to all of the children.
The merest glance at the photos made it abundantly clear that the seating arrangement was based on age (William excepted).
Charles, Anne (and husband), Andrew, Edward (and Wife), William (and wife and kids), Peter Philips, Zara Tindall (and husband).
Harry (and wife), Beatrice (and husband), Eugenie (and husband) and so on. William was given precedence for the grandchildren by virtue of being the Prince of Wales. The rest was simply order of age.
No snubs, no little digs about seniority or anything else. The Queen's kids and grandkids in the order they were born.
I watched both services. They were very heartfelt and poignant, capturing the essence of Her Majesty the Queen and focusing on what meant the most to her: Duty, service to others, kindness, humbleness, and her faith. I got a little choked up when it was time to lower the casket below St. George's because that meant she was truly gone now. She's relieved of all the earthly responsibilities, the problems, and the physical pain she endured since the end of last year. Windsor is a beautiful place.
@ROSE Yes, exactly. When I saw the lowering of the casket below floor level, I thought, "This just can't be." It was like someone who has been constant my whole life, just disappearing!" When I was born, she was 28 and already Queen for three years. So, she has just been there, steady and constant my entire life. I almost couldn't bear to see the lowering into the vault. Heartbreaking.

I'm American but was up early and watching. I even missed some of work to be able to see it all. The family going through all of that, under such scrutiny, I can't imagine. But it was a fitting, lovely tribute and I'm so grateful that the world was allowed to share in it. My sincerest heartfelt condolences on her loss.
My heart literally ached when I heard and watched that lone bagpiper waking away and playing that song until the tune faded away!
Sympathy to the RF in this time of loss. What a shame that during both the Queen's Jubilee & her funeral, the RF was having to fuss with ways to "handle" H & M. It is embarrassing for me, an American, that MM is our representative(?) in the RF. No one would have ever expected Harry to marry a woman from the USA; however, he did. I do not think it was a spectacle at all. It was beautifully done each and every day. We have No One in America who would ever deserve a funeral such as this. I have ultimate respect for the RF, save 2 of them.
