I bought 82 acres in the Ozarks earlier this year and I have a ton of trees to cut and split. Been wondering how many chains I will be going through before winter. This company looks like it's gonna be my new favorite! 😊
I like the idea of having a few of these more cost effective chains on hand for doing trail maintenance, and other work where the chain is more likely to catch a piece of hidden metal or a rock, etc. As always, thank you for the amazing content. It has been a pleasure to watch you and Tiffany develop your homestead over the years.
Thanks Andrew. Just bought a used saw..previous owner tried to change the chain and had no idea what he was doing. All out of alignment. Easy fix. Now I need cheap chains to clear some small trees in South Georgia. Keep the videos coming😊
I like the point you make about a "sacrificial chain" for "dirty cuts". Damaging a cheap chain is less painful! Still (Sthil), they may be a great value if they hold up over time and take the sharping as you use them. *Questions would be:* How much stretch over time? How fast they wear away with regular sharpening? It appears that when sharp, performance is similar to the name brand expensive chains, as you have shown. At the very least having the choice to use "My good chain" or "My cheap chain" for specific types of cuts is a no brainer!! Great video! 🙂
Great comparison vid! I have to say that the raker height on the Stihl chain seems more appropriate to the tooth allowing for no engine bog. The other chains may cut better after a few sharpenings and their heights even out...the rakers are just a little too short outta the box allowing too deep of a cut. For the price difference a great buy and perfect for average homeowner 👍💜💜💜
Glad to see that there is an inexpensive but good chain for my chainsaw. I loan mine out to friends sometimes, and seems that they always want to cut roots with it, dulling the chain.
Oh Andrew, what a great idea to compare chains on this huge firewood job! I've lived in logging country all my life. My dad was a timber faller and worked in this industry all his life. I remember him filing and or grinding chains every night for the next day. Though he is gone now, he would have enjoyed this comparison greatly--I know I did. Great info.,Thanks!
I over use a stihl pole saw around my property. Small chain means lots of sharpening. I keep an 3xtra chain that is always sharp and ready to go. Ill order a couple of these as well as w couple backup carps for some equipment. Thx Andrew!
I always like to use the Stihl chains for my saw just because I have used them a lot and they have always given me great results and long life. That being said I do really like the idea of not ruining them by hitting something when I know I have a fairly high risk of there being debris in the wood.

Great review video Andrew! I will check them out for my Stihl chainsaw. I am always cutting around old fence lines and that is way cheaper than Stihl blades. What you got up your sleeves for the rounds?
I typically buy Stihl saw chains, as well as parts, but with these comparisons you've done, I will give these new ones a try. Definitely worth the savings, especially if they will last through several sharpenings, which I do myself. I have a question though, what bar length do you have on the 260?
Hey, Andrew. I love Hipa, and thank you for telling us all about them. I made an order for a carburetor after your last video showing them. Thanks again
I usually stick with oem for replacement parts but these would be great for cutting stumps or dirty logs were damage is more likely to happen to the chain.

I'll definitely buy some for close ground work. If it hits dirt, sand, or rock, just keep on rolling. Thanks for the review. Have you tried to sharpen one yet?
I only cut with my saw 3 or 4 times a year, but it is usually trees that have fallen and are covered in dirt and mud. Having a few spare chains on hand would be great. The local shop charges $16 to sharpen a chain. Thanks for the review.
I'm sure the Hipa chains are great based off these numbers, but I'm willing to bet the Stihl chains last a lot longer. It's hard to get tough steel that also holds an edge, so most companies making cutting edges use a softer steel. Another great video as always.
I generally buy genuine Stihl chains for my saw, but those alternative chains you tried would be good in situations where you are cutting in less than optimal conditions such with muddy logs, multiple contacts with the ground or wood known to have potential fencing or nails embedded within it. Great comparison between the two chains. Another fantastic video.
Can you use the Stihl chain sharpener to sharpen the Hipa chains since theyre made for Stihl? Or would you need to buy a different sharpener because the cutting blade is slightly different than the Stihl chain?
I see a great value for someone who doesn't resharpen or use a chain much. When I worked in the woods of Oregon, we bought our chain on a big spool and broke it to length. On the site. We used Oregon chains and bars
Most of our local mower/small engine dealers and shops use Oregon Chain around here too... Measure and cut to fit the saw... But I have seen the Sthil dealer using their branded spools to make chains with.
Oregon chains are hard to beat, but anymore not any cheaper than Stihl chains, I bought a brand that I really like, it’s called 8Ten or something like that, can’t remember it right off.. but it cut great and was almost half what Stihl was.
Perfect timing, I was just looking for new Chainsaw chains. I got the new Ridgid electric chainsaw that has a 12" bar and replaced it with a 16" and it runs great. Perfect for around my mini farm. Need to get some chains so I can quick swap instead for sharpening in the hot sun. Thanks Andrew

Been using stihl and Oregon. Don’t really notice a difference in bars or chains. Started trying Oregon once I saw actual timber companies using them in their stihl saws. Probably dropped close to 100 trees on our property since we bought it 7 years ago, so the chainsaw has had plenty of use.
Yes I have and I have one on a production line as we speak. Some hydraulic parts delays is pushing it back until later next month. Can't wait to show it to everyone.

Hello from Southwest Ga. Recently stumbled across your channel with the homestead fire truck video and been hooked ever since. Keep up the great content!
Cool video as always..But Like a lot of other folks i started running saws from a young age (maybe 7-8yo) and i was always told if your going to run a saw your going to half to know how to keep them good and sharp and away i went..Now Looking Back i see how valuable and Kinda Rare Skill set that is Today..same with sharping a pocket knife by hand or a garden hoe or axe.. all are what ya call acquired skills and can take decades to master so the sooner ya start the better ..lol.

I like that idea, buying some cheap chance to cut through nasty stuff, kind of some disposables. I’ve got a couple hedges to take out and some stumps to cut down and poke some holes in so I can burn them out. Instead of using a good channel, just get a couple of these. I can’t believe they sell them for five dollars, I couldn’t even get the metal to make something like this for that come up you probably can’t even get chains sharpened for five bucks anymore. Lol I haven’t seen my chainsaw in five years because it’s been in storage and I didn’t need one at the last three houses. I know my mom let a handyman try to use it and he couldn’t get it started and I’m sure he left fuel in there so I don’t know what I’m gonna be dealing with but I’m guessing it’s going to need some work.😅😂

I noticed the camera angle, did you get the overhead "Drawing" mount? Or did I plant a seed? Or is it just a coincidence 🤔 Inquiring minds want to know😂

Be interested to see Project Farm test these. Thanks for showing these chains! I suspect after the first run both chains will be Identical.
Love that channel
I use all Stihl chains to and resharpen when needed! Great testing and comparisons! Thank you for sharing my friend!

How do you like the MS170? I’ve been looking at the 180 but hear conflicting opinions.
170 all the way. My dad didn't like his 180 and got a 170.
Like the way they cut , price is very appealing to me. I will order a few for cutting in bad areas. Good video.
Let me know how you like them
Can you use the Stihl chain sharpener to sharpen the Hipa chains since theyre made for Stihl? Or would you need to buy a different sharpener because the cutting blade is slightly different than the Stihl chain?
I'll find that out soon when I go to sharpening.
Yes you can and I have all summer
What kind chaps were you using? Work well?
I don't remember the name, bought them off of Amazon. They fit OK, should have got a size smaller.
Awesome educational video. Thanks for sharing. 🤠
I see a great value for someone who doesn't resharpen or use a chain much. When I worked in the woods of Oregon, we bought our chain on a big spool and broke it to length. On the site. We used Oregon chains and bars

yeah, that's what i'm interested in too.
Do the cheap chains become dull after 20 cuts, etc..
A lot of the time cheap tools work great when brand new, they just become useless after 10-20% of use compared to a good tool.
I recently got a cheap 45cc 20" chainsaw and am wondering how much better it would perform with a high quality chain vs the cheap china chain it came with.

I’ve tried different chains but always go back to stihl. Now that’s all I use, I get good life out of them and they always work good for me.
I do get excellent life out of mine as well, time will tell about the cheaper brand.
Nice comparison, i just ordered a couple of these chains. Not the best sharpener so the price difference makes these right for me.
Let me know how you like them.
Andrew, My brother used to be a Stihl dealer for years, Stihl is a very Quality product. I have a Stihl electric blower and I love it.
I agree I love Stihl.
Yes I’m testing hipa chains now with a couple of free chains from a utuber
So far I’m very happy with them and I use there parts in our small engine shop
I use their small engine parts myself, especially the carburetors.
I have a Stihl MS-261 would be great to see how it runs one of their chains.
Best firewood saw made in my opinion.
I just bought 8ten chains - fit was a little off at first - seemed like it was tough to turn at times (by hand) - weird - but after a little use and stretching seems to be fine now. Will check these out though - random chooser - choose me lol
I cut Texas misquite trees all summer with the 8ten and hipa chain and I’m happy with them, but I never cut dry trees period
Great comparison as usual!
Thank you for watching
Great comparison of the chains! Very honest and instructive! Also the recording and editing is top notch as usual! Great job Andy! 👏👏👏
Thank you for watching
You skipped the most important part, cranking the saw. I always have trouble with that! Any suggestions?
Fresh gas and a good spark plug. My saws always start in 5 pulls or less. Non ethanol fuel too.
I've used my chainsaw maybe 5 times in 20 years so these Hipa chains look like a great value to me.
Agree that these are a good option for cutting stumps and small trees that like to snag a chain. Good review.
Thanks 👍

I need to try Oregon.
If you go up there, ask for Tyrone...he knows his way around a saw. He does all our work on ours.....we use Husqvarna though. Spiers Enterprises

The hipa had nice chips and I never knew you could find chain lower than 40. I want to know about bars as well. They are quite expensive.
Great video! Just in time for hurricane season. My chainsaw always gets some use this time of year.
Mine too!

Oregon for the win!
I need to test some of their chains.
do they have power chain sharpeners?
Not that I seen, just hand files.
Hi, Andrew! This video is fun. There’s just something about chainsaws that I find interesting. See you and Tiffany in a bit.
Would love to see your follow up after using these for some time
I'll be doing a lot of cutting over the next few months.
Congratulations 👏🎉
Thanks for the great compare video - great, useful information!!
Thank you for watching
You are so informative. I have learned so much from you!!
Awesome! Thank you!
Great video! Looks like they have a lot of good stuff cheap. Can’t wait to see more hunting videos in the fall.
Coming soon! Thanks for watching!
I’ve had very good luck with the 8ten chains and I only cut mistquite trees and with green leaves
Chain will last four times longer
Hello from Southwest Ga. Recently stumbled across your channel with the homestead fire truck video and been hooked ever since. Keep up the great content!
Thank you for watching and the support
Those are nice "extra large" coasters!
Lol yes they are
Cool video as always..But Like a lot of other folks i started running saws from a young age (maybe 7-8yo) and i was always told if your going to run a saw your going to half to know how to keep them good and sharp and away i went..Now Looking Back i see how valuable and Kinda Rare Skill set that is Today..same with sharping a pocket knife by hand or a garden hoe or axe.. all are what ya call acquired skills and can take decades to master so the sooner ya start the better ..lol.
I am all for sharpening and getting full life out of mine.
Great video comparing the two. Definitely going to check them out

GREAT video and thanks for the tip on other chains.
Thank you for watching
Yipppeeeee for this Canadian!
I like to see more videos like this
More coming!
Can't beat the price. But you should of used the 462 💪🏽💪🏽💪🏽 bring out the big muscle. I also have too many chains lol.
They didn't have a chain for my 25 inch bar or I would have 😉
I'm all for cheaper chains, we burn through a bunch up here in MI
If the stretch stops soon I'm fine with them.
Lol
I haven’t seen my chainsaw in five years because it’s been in storage and I didn’t need one at the last three houses. I know my mom let a handyman try to use it and he couldn’t get it started and I’m sure he left fuel in there so I don’t know what I’m gonna be dealing with but I’m guessing it’s going to need some work.😅😂
You've probably got a mess on your hands. Time for a new carb.
I found Tallox chains work well too.

I would love to have a new chain for my chainsaw on standby when I need one in a pinch if I have to use it and am not able to sharpen the chain in a timely manner
Awesome video, thanks for the information!
Thank you for watching
Hopefully not to late but awesome review looks pretty good and at a great price.
I only run Stihl chain on my ms 261c-m they’re getting expensive but I average 12 cords of wood per chain so I feel it’s worth it
That's a great return on investment. By the way that's the best firewood saw made in my opinion.
@@TKCLyes sir I agree
I noticed the camera angle, did you get the overhead "Drawing" mount?
Or did I plant a seed?
Or is it just a coincidence 🤔
Inquiring minds want to know😂
Naaa, had the tripod up in the truck.
What great timing just started looking for a new chain!

Great chainsaw test. 👍🏾🍺🎣
Glad you enjoyed
That was a good comparison video.
Glad you liked it!
Might be worth you getting a roll of chain and making your own loops, shame all 3 saws are different pitches or that would absolutely be worth it.
Right! I'd need 3 different rolls.
try that out when the wood is a bit dryer and see the difference! them logs are still soaking wet!
It's how I usually process my wood, green.
@@TKCL yeah i know but just a comparison to see how much quicker it cuts
all the good chains are sold out. I also think that the real issues come about when sharpening the hipa vs the "real" chains. Honest review tho!
I'll be sharpening eventually, time will tell.
Always Great content and videos Andrew!
