I stayed in the Peabody Hotel in 2019 and got a big hoot out of seeing the ducks and ducklings march to and from their fountain after breakfast time! Lovely hotel and even better tradition caring for our duck friends!
About 30 years ago...i took my then girlfriend to memphis to see graceland as she was an elvis nut. We stayed at the peabody. The ducks were great, and the hotels location near Beale Street was convenient. Overall, it was a fun experience. Excellent bbq and live music.
Was such a neat experience seeing this in person in 2019! Will never forget it! Had such a blast in Memphis, blew fraud ass Nashville out of the water!
The ducks are raised by a local farmer and friend of the hotel. They only live at the hotel for 3 months before retiring back to the farm where they continue their lives as wild ducks while being replaced with a fresh batch.
There are traditions that are outdated, ones that are meaningless and ones that are plain out pointless... this is not one of them, it is one that is simply pure joy and in that case that's all that counts :D
I remember reading about this in a book when I was a kid and thinking it was just a fanciful story someone had made up. If I hadn't seen this, I would probably never have believed it.
I saw the morning episode, where the ducks came off of the elevator and were marched into the fountain by the Peabody Hotel duck keeper back in 2007-2008
Ducks: "And these humans come out en masse to watch us climb out of the pool and down a red carpet like it's some grand occasion or ritual. What a strange species they are."
No, the ducks love it. They are very well treated. I've been on the roof where their penthouse is, the ducks are only allowed to perform for 3 months and are then placed in a duck preserve., due to their not being able to survive on their own.
@@jimclark6256 I'm not talking about their living conditions. I'm talking about them made to walk & then swim in front of those guests, camera flashes & loud noises. It's not a normal situation & may be stressful for the ducks.
The smartly dressed attendant only highlights how badly dressed the guests all are. Only Americans would be unashamed to be seen out looking such a mess.

This has been going on for over 75 years - I was born in Memphis in 1941 and used to go see them.
Woah 😳
This is so funny, it's like the ducks know when the red carpet is ready for them😊
he rolls out a red carpet for them i love this

Hi Paul, could I share about 20 seconds of video footage from this video on my UA-cam channel?
Holy shit caught in the wild
Guessing you didn’t get a clip, captain?
Yes
Nah
The leech of youtube himself.
I love that the kids get a front row seat

Which episode? I must have missed that one! I saw this in kindergarden living in Memphis
"This guy can't tell me what to do!"
*one minute later*
"How did I get in this elevator?"

I saw them first in 1958.
How old are you??
Imagine your tradition, passed down for nearly a century, is dedicated to spoiling a bunch of ducks
LMAO “Americans” for ya
The ducks have left the building!
Why is the kid at the end not wearing pants?
And for your main meal tonight, crispy aromatic duck!
Long live the Peabody ducks!
Please pass on this message to the ducks:
Quack.
Fun Fact: Duck is never on the menu at The Peabody hotel restaurants. 🦆
I saw a duck once. It wasn’t everything it’s quacked up to be
They got the red carpet out for ducks that live in a penthouse maybe the world is not so bad
Do you think they're happy? Do they get to eat bugs and lay in the sun?
Yes they do. This elevator takes them up to the roof where they have grass, a fountain, and shelter.

Karen Bidlake I’m going back in September
