I test drove the G6 last week. It felt like my Audi Q5 but with softer suspension and better feel on the brakes. My G6 will arrive in December

@@Sal3600 Those are held to western company standards. Chinese companies don’t typically have as high standards and China is NOT known for their innovations. Got example, Huawei phones are absolute garbage. I tried them and returned them immediately. Chinese designed products are absolute 💩.

Hi Sam. Some of us need to tow a trailer or caravan. You never seem to mention this but it is a major consideration for us when looking to purchase a new car.
Indeed - this was one of the first features I look for. This Xpeng tows 1500 kg which is great!
I'm waiting for Byd sealion 07 RH drive 🚗 to arrive. It will challenge the G6, I'm thinking of the Zeekr X as well. Good options for buyers.
Zeekr X is much smaller than the other cars.
Also GAC AION HYPER HT . Solid contender.
Xpeng G6 looks like a dream and much better value than the Tesla. Hope they come to the UK
Always interesting to note when people talk about value. Ultimately it comes down to how much people are willing to pay VS what they want.
These days in Australia we don't pay import tariffs on vehicles which is a great change from the previous years. So vehicles here are good value now. But the UK does have tariffs presently unfortunately so the price would be higher.

No car will be 100% perfect. If it meets 80% of your expectations then it is a best buy and don't regret it.
Sam, just a tip from a bloke who did a lot of rallying and some circuit racing a long time ago. You need to change your grip style on the steering wheel, you won’t be able to react quick enough with your right hand on the top of the wheel and the left doing nothing if something happens. Try the old tried and trusted ten to two position.

Hi Sam. Sure, it is a lovely EV. Almost as nice as my Seal Premium. I would be ordering it with You if not for the Seal. Looks better in my eye than the Model Y. So many things I don't like in Model Y? White seats as well! And You are paying for it the same price I've paid for my Seal. It must be a good deal. Easy to fall in love with. The Seal is a Model 3 competitor, Model Y has significantly more carrying capacity like the G6 and is an SUV not a sedan, so shouldn't be compared.
It's great that Chinese EV makers are finally moving to take over the industry in Asia and Australia. Competition is great. You should schedule a FREE model 3 test drive ASAP so you can feel the many differences.

We in Canada have been played by the US for applying 100% tariff on Chinese EVs. Meanwhile the US has decided to delay the tariffs on Chinese EVs. Great play Uncle Sam.
Hope Trudeau will reverse course and, at least, delay the tariffs as well.

1. Tariffs deprived North American consumers of low cost affordable transportation, with minimal maintenance expense.
2. By allowing NEVs into the N/A market, it will force legacy manufacturers to switch up their business models and modernize, innovate and compete to offer better products for the consumers. Competition should not be feared or discouraged with rapid changes in technologies.
3. It would help meet our climate control goals as renewable electric energy is much cleaner than gas.
The tariffs are meant to allow the legacy manufacturers to catch up but, of course, this is just a smoke screen as they have no intention to pivot to EVs. If they do, by the time they could catch up, car transportation will have evolved to another level. Best to survive by pairing up with a 🇨🇳 brand and working together.

Are we supposed to buy crap over priced EVs and cripple our car industries by forcing them to buy second rate batteries just because we can't currently compete at something? Imagine if the rest of the world did that to us every time we export something that is better/cheaper. The whole point of free trade is buy stuff from whomever offers the best product rather than protectionism.

Now, Xpeng, make a smaller version (around 4.3 meters), and maybe create a more interesting back design, and "I'm sold"!
I like the seats. The side support in the Tesla MY is too much for my a little bigger self (183cm, 120kg), the G6 is just right. My skinny (42kg) wife likes the seats too, and the back seat is comfortable as well. The center console is indeed a problem in many EVs, again in the G6 it didn't bother me, and retracted feet position when in self driving mode is great too. Seat ventilation works well, powerful AC (33C here in China when tested), the glass roof didn't cook my head unlike the MY. Rear passenger space is a lot bigger than MY. And yes the sound system is quite impressive. Amazing auto parking, good self driving on fast roads, quiet, a well tuned chassis. And the long range has plenty of power for fun driving, the Performance Max is probably totally unnecessary unless you need 4WD. No glove compartment, no frunk, but for me not a show stopper.
An interesting thing about charging the Xpeng G6 on Teslas supercharger network, is that the speed won´t really get above approx. 90-100 kW. Presumably because the G6 uses 800 v technology, which a few other brands also uses. At least this is the case in Denmark, where I live. Just something to be aware of.

My head's spinning with all the choices available from China. I'm waiting to see how the XPeng M03 performs. Given its predicted AUD $35K, it could be the game changer.
Yes. I drive a Kia Cerato Sport+ and it's current list price is $35K driveaway.
I've just come home from the EV Show in Sydney, loved the XPeng G6 @ $58K driveaway or the Zeekr X @ $67K driveaway (same spec).
Can't justify the difference in price when the Cerato drives so well and my needs are not high.
I would however, consider a XPeng Mona M03 for the same price as a Cerato. Bottom line, I won't buy a new ICE vehicle.
Mate. I love your work. We met once at an EV car show but mate, I have a model 3 I bought second hand. AWD. Charges at 250kw. Now you keep talking about these fast charging cars. Great if you are NOT in Oz. Most charges around are the 130 for fast charging. Yes there are fast chargers around Sydney but not many so I just dont see any value currently in our country. Not to mention, its more expensive the fast chargers. Use Jolt and others that give away free power. Slower but much cheaper! But Im with you. If I wanted an SUV, the G6 is the better buy.
With around $60k, I doubt we can buy anything that comes with this convenient auto parking system as standard like this G6, very impressive indeed. Sam, did you get a free installation of the fast charger at home too? It will be good if you can test the charging speed and run another road test and see how far you can go in the real world. Congrats on your new G6.
Tesla's one peddle driving is perfected and an amazing experience. It took me a week to become really good at one peddle driving, and I hate going back to driving the auto RAV4. It would be very annoying for the car to continue creeping at 1kph as this car does.

Is the Tesla turning on the brake light when slowing with one pedal driving? If not, it is a safety hazard. Using it is to ask for being rear ended.
@FuzzyasianDad Tesla vehicles turn on the brake lights far too often when one foot driving. It is a safety hazard, maybe. Most of the time, my car is driving itself. One foot driving is absolutely amazing.
@jjjxoxoxo interesting. Imho my 21 lr m3 waits too long to turn the lights on to indicate that I'm slowing.
It "feels" like I'm heavy engine braking before the lights engage. Even on my motorcycle I flash the brakes while engine braking to be safe and communicate.

You should be advocating to break the speed limit in your car. I applaud Europe for mandating this function. It's about time we use the tech in these cars for safety.
Do you mean to not break the speed limit? If so, I agree. It's not OK to speed - this is the largest single factor in causing collisions and the energy of them is dependent on the square of the velocity. We need vehicles that actually prevent speeding to be mandated. In fact we will all be safer when most driving is autonomous.

Overall shape is similar between the two but the front and rear and the details on the g6 are better.
Wait till 2025 with all the new makes. Mid year 2025 will be good choice of makes to buy a ev.

@@robertpatterson4185 specs amount to only so much, especially the one you quoted. A very small difference in drag coefficient is meaningless. You would know the cx60 has great specs and is completely terrible to drive.

Thanks for the video. Just watched another video on the G6. I went and had a look and i agree it looks lovely. But watched the road trips from Sydney to Melbourne problems with chargers and slow charging. I was thinking about buying one but i think the infrastructure is nowhere near where it needs to be. Our petrol and diesel cars need to remain with us for the foreseeable future. Disappointing at our infrastructure and i would be concerned the lack of or slow charging would put my daughter or wife in a dangerous situation.
Took one for a test drive in Melbourne on Saturday 14th September, Really nice car, still have a few small issues to sort out. Like the car rolling when it should be stopped. some of the digital assist was a tad jumpy. and at a tiny bit under $60k starting price, they are not massively cheaper than a Tesla Model Y. Once the Model Y is fully optioned up, there will be about a $10k difference.
Love the review, excellent as always, G6 would be my choice but we just can't wait for it to get to Perth. Still, not loving the undone buttons...one more than usual today... (Electric Stripper maybe an alternative name for your awesome chanel lol) Thanks for the upload 😊

Informative video Sam - looks like the G6 is an interesting EV - will wait for the Model Y refresh to compare since the current Model Y is an older design compared to the G6 which isn't a like for like comparison. Out of curiosity, does the navigation system in the G6 plot charging stops and how long to charge for on long trips? This is a feature, I use regularly in my Model 3

The deciding factors for me are: 0-100 3.7 Tesla, Xpeng 4.1 , top speed: 250km/h Tesla , 200 Xpeng. Tesla model Y performance for me.

I would wait for the Tesla model Y update before buying any new car. Many will regret buying a car right now
If Tesla are smart they will use the model Y Juniper launch to make range anxiety a thing of the past. It's probably the biggest barrier to mass adoption IMO. The G6 long range is 570km from a 87.5kWh battery. Rumours coming from Tesla Berlin suggest Juniper long range could have a denser 95kWh battery capable of 700km range. That would do it. I'm waiting to see.

Great review Sam! I'm now seriously thinking of getting one here in Canberra. What good value. Seven year warranty compared to Tesla's three. Auto parking. Fast charging. Can tow 1500 kg the same as Tesla Model Y. Power outlets for running equipment which Tesla does not have. Greater range than Tesla Y. And we can get a free charger through Sam the Electric Viking!
What my concern is at this time is the type of batteries used in current EV’s The Lithium Ion & NMC Batteries are heavy causing excess wear on the tyres. This means tyres being changed more regularly than ICE vehicles. You can of course get more heavy duty tyres to counter this at an extra cost. Tyres are generally are an expensive item to replace anytime.
The future Solid State batteries still a few years away but you will get longer range, quicker charging & less wear & tear on the tyres so I’ve heard.
Looks fantastic, it’s got proper door handles , that’s my only gripe with my mod 3 , when your past 50 you’re hands get stiff and using Tesla door handles can be a pain ! Wonder if Tesla are listening 😮😮😊😊

Test drove the Highland and sure it seemed better than the M3 which I have also driven. But nothing substantially groundbreaking. Most noticeable - ambient lighting, rear seat display panel, seating, no stalks, better suspension, better soundproofing. I'm guessing the Juniper refresh will be along the same lines.
Having tested the G6, i find it to be more comfortable to ride in. Not being bothered about acceleration so much, I'm quite impressed with the tech and UI which is better than say BYD and on par with Tesla. I'm sure the Juniper will look great and I think the G6's looks will grow on me juat like the BYD Seal did. Overall I'm happy to see strong healthy competition between the manufacturers.
Very impressive video about the G6, I am planning to buy an EV within 2 to 3 months but i haven't made up my decision yet, I am considering BYD Sea Lion 07 but I need more advice to wrap up my decision. Please any advice is appreciated
BYD software is nowhere near XPeng quality. BYD cars tend to lose a lot of WLTP range in real driving. XPeng always wins those tests in Europe. Closest to WLTP out of all models, 10% better than Tesla. BYD is usually close to the bottom.
@@enigmatum Thank you very much for pointing that out, yeah I forgot that look at that, I do remember watching a video about testing BYD Seal, Tesla and ID7 and yeah BYD scored low, but never seen Xpeng to be honest. I will look more into the WLTP, hopefully I'll make my decision soon. Thanks again!

This is off topic but I have a question. When comparing maintenance cost of ice cars and electrics, is the repair cost included in the maintenance costs. Every ice car I have owned has had major repairs just after the warranty expires.
What are you going to do with the Model Y and Cyber truck that you have ordered?
Lovely vehicle only the nav system is really bad. You can use Carplay and Android Car but then you can't plan the chargers on your way. You can hope for a big update some time later. Also the lack of a frunk is really a pity.
Will the Aion Hyper HT be launched in Aus? It is being launched this month here in Thailand and we will take it for a test drive after taking the Xpeng G6 for a test drive this past weekend while the dealership is still under construction.

Please don’t say Tesla Killer. This is rubbish. There has always been more than one car manufacturer and there will always be. Tesla needs other car manufacturers to help the move to a sustainable future.
100%. The EV future will need many companies to jump on board. No single company can make it happen. Tesla isn't for everybody and nor should it be.
I am both nervous and excited by the ferocity of chinese comeptition. Nervous as a Tesla investor but excited as a potential EV upgrader. Part of the excitement is also that the model Y juniper is coming out next year and hopefully really steps up the offering. Price is going to be tough too.

I'm curious about some of the small details when comparing other EV makers. My Model S is using google maps for routing with realtime traffic and is permanently connected to Telsa 4G with its own Spotify account. Do the other manufacturers include these "extras"?
And when I use the supercharger network, battery pre-conditioning occurs enroute and the route planning captures my battery level and station usage and even re-routes me. I don't believe other EVs have this level of integration even using the Tesla network. It seems BYD and others offer an extra driver's screen, apple carplay and leather options which are attractive but won't be as valuable to the ownership experience as the Tesla integrations.
Not being defensive, but we have seen many manufacturers bring out seemingly better cars than Tesla, only to find they don't score as well when professionally reviewed (no offence Sam the Viking), or stack up when it comes to the ownership experience.
I only need to see the new Juniper bring one thing: more range. SR needs to be 550-600kms and LR I want to see pushing 700-800kms. And this is less about actual travel distance and more that no Tesla gets their rated range and Australian hot summers need lots of AC.
Maybe not a Tesla killer, but maybe a Tesla stock overpricing killer.
When is the new Model Y coming out again? I’d love to see you compare the refreshed Model Y that’s coming out at the end of this year to the G6.

Tesla is the market leader, so it's only to be expected that the competition must offer more features and lower prices. It's just amazing what they are doing these days; imagine what EV's will be like in 5 years.
For ppl complaining about the car not fully stopping when you release the acceleratior pedal: In China, there is indeed a move toward restricting or banning the use of the "one-pedal" driving mode in electric vehicles, such as those made by Tesla. This mode allows drivers to control both acceleration and braking with just the accelerator pedal, which some regulators believe poses safety risks. Specifically, concerns have been raised that drivers may confuse the accelerator with the brake, leading to accidents. Following a series of incidents, Chinese regulators proposed new rules in 2023 that would prevent vehicles with certain types of regenerative braking systems from coming to a full stop by simply releasing the accelerator.
While this ban has not yet been fully enacted, the proposed changes signal a shift toward stricter regulation to improve safety in electric vehicles, particularly for inexperienced drivers unfamiliar with this system. Tesla, for example, has already made adjustments in China, changing how the one-pedal mode operates
If that is true it is rediculous, if you can't separate the functions of an accelrator and brake you shouldn't be driving.

@@Raymaster7482 I don't have an issue with EVs that also regen through the brakes as long as they are recovering energy. Porsche for example argue this is more efficient.

From another video review it's the same towing capacity as the Tesla but no xpeng comes with heads up display.

In thailand people have a bit of apprehensive feeling about this car, as if there are accidents then it takes forever to get repairs done for new cars.. and if they end up manufacturing in thailand then the cost would go down... its the case rite now and people who buy early pay more and later the prices are cut down so much..

Tesla design , i like it second small screen and design is ok .
From the video sections showing the Front seat belts and rear seat belts, the front belts are black but the rear belts are white.
Not sure how white belts will hold up in time.
May have been better to have all the seat belts Black.
Wish it had more rigid or boxy design. The exterior is not the best looking 😢

How does the boot size and storage space compare to the model Y. I prefer to have more boot space and rather than a huge space in the back seat area….more practical for a family of four when traveling overnight with bags etc
At 4.753m long a few millimetres longer than the model Y and reclinable rear seats - I suspect space will not be an issue either trunk nor rear passenger space- it’s a big car. EV6 is 4.680m long.
While you see the Xpeng G6 as a direct competitor to the Tesla Model Y, I think it unreasonable to make a comparison between it and the current Model Y, as it will soon be superseded. A more valid comparison of features would be with the Model 3.
1. Tesla has no maintenance schedule, and maintenance costs are minimal. How does the Xpeng G6 compare?
2. From your video, it appears that regen does not cause the vehicle to stop, so the brake needs to be used. Unlike the Tesla which has full one-pedal driving.
3. How does trip planning compare with Tesla's?
4. Does the Xpeng have pixelated headlights and when on high beam does it have automatic blanking out of oncoming cars?
5. Does the Xpeng have over the air updates? And will they be regular over time?
6. Does the Xpeng have keyless entry?
7. Does it have easy entry, where it electrically adjusts the seat and steering wheel?
8. Does it have free subscriptions to Spotify etc?
9. How does Gpeng's autopilot compare with Tesla"s?
10. The Gpeng Australian web site does not give any pricing yet, as at 5.9.24. So it's impossible to make a financial comparison.

I see a lack of sports seats/aggressive side walls as a pro. I spent some time in a Telsa and is it less aggressive than model Y/3?
I'm used flat seats and atto3 being a big guy, I couldn't actually fit, without it being very uncomfortable.
Xpeng is using the next gen 800v system, which doesnt need thicker wiring and produce less heat and lighter due to smaller current running on the wire and can be charged faster!!. similar to Porsche Taycan!
