I love the cotoneaster Sid. I never realised how lovely they were. Iv just got a few young trees to work on. What a lovely reminder of your father in law.
I know this is older video. In deepest sympathy for your loss. This is the best bonsai video I've seen of cottoneaster. Maybe in the future we can see some work on how to properly work on this fine specimen.

hi , where do you keep your cotoneaster in winter ?
Here in my part of the U.K. cotoneaster is fully hardy. It stays outside on the bench quite happily. I live in the southwest . Cheers. Sid
