    A camera like Yours today in 2021 is almost $3000. The Dynax 7 has only 1/8000 but it is IMO a lot more versatile, more practical far less bulky and heavy than the Dynax 9. I was hesitating a lot between to go for the Dynax 7 or 9, but eventually I picked 7 and later 7xi, and I love them. My next goal is to get an 9xi, I simply love the special and unique XI interface.

    *Minolta Alpha 9 Ti*
    *Drop Dead Gorgeous !*
    IMHO, the Best Designed Camera ever.
    This Alpha 9 reminds me of Ferrari F40,
    Pure Speed Monster, no Gimmick Features.
    BTW All Alpha 9, 7, 5 all beautiful & amazing.

    I'm a fan of Minolta but there are issues that are a little confusing. The speed of the curtain does not correspond to 1/12000, that exposure time is achieved with two curtains, the true speed is the frame synchronization speed, that is, 1/300 s. and as much as I love that camera, Nikon purposely beat it with the D1 at 1/16000s just so Minolta couldn't claim they had the fastest exposure time. But the D1 was not analog, it was a DSRL and it only had an x-sync speed of 1/250, therefore the Minolta 9TI or plain 9 has a faster shutter speed.

    Interesting video! I never knew that Sony bought Minolta! Learnt something today already. I have just purchased a Leica M9 to accompany my Olympus kit. Any tips on getting used to it?

      Thanks for watching! Yeah, there was some history behind all the Sony cameras to-date. Sony never really made cameras, apart from some consumer point and shoots. So in order to get into the mainstream market, they either develop their own, which will take a lot of time and of course money, and since Konica Minolta was struggling financially and it was better to buy the company and took all their resources, technologies on board. Smart move but give Sony all the credits in making it work as Minolta was really struggling against Canon and Nikon at the time.

      Leica M9 is truly a magnificent piece of kit. It's got a sensor that produces unique colours and tones. The only way to get use to it is by practicing. Rangefinder cameras are different as they are not 'through the lens' so composition requires adapting and knowing your focal length. But it's an experience that you will never forget. Enjoy the new camera!

    There's a few things you should have mentioned like the shutter 1/12,000 second top shutter speed and 1/300 second flash scyn where inherited along with a high speed flash scyn of 1/8000 sec with the right Minolta HS flash guns all from the 9's predecessor the 9xi from 7 years earlier. That 9 ti is a rare thing of beauty and having been a former minolta 7xi user always wanted a dynax/alpha 9 but drifted away to nikon digital mainly because of the lenses and when sony bought them over it was the icing on the cake but I recently got another 7xi and a 800si mainly because of the price cheap as chips and the advancement in 3rd party lens technology. Thats a very nice camera though.

      Completely agree with your comment. The dynax or Maxxum 7 had other advantages over the 9, it could use the distance encoder of the D lenses to improve the flash (never seemed relevant to me) and it can use the SSM lenses from Minolta and Sony (the Minolta 5 can and is also much cheaper). There are some versions of the Minolta 9 that were modified to have these functions but they are few. Ergonomically I prefer the Minolta 9 to the 7 and if we talk about durability...well that's all said

    Black ones going on Ebay uk for between £150 to £450.There's also a titanium version for sale for about £750.

      Thanks for the prices :) yeah for the money, this is truly a top film camera to buy and you can also pick up a couple of nice primes like 50mm 1.7 or even 50mm 1.4 for cheap and you an really have fun. Since you have 1/12000 speed to play with, you don't even need ND filters most of the time when shooting 100 speed films!

    The Minolta a-9 Ti in 1998 had a real Titanium shell. Hence the real Titanium color and the Ti logo. I don't know any other camera with Titanium body. Long before 1998 the first serious dSLRs from Kodak with Canon or Nikon body had started to appear and the future of photography was going digital.
    The Minolta a9 Ti is maybe the last great film SLR by Minolta. Minolta except the Minolta Dynax/Maxxum/α-7 in 1998 had the Minolta Dynax/Maxxum/α-9 SLR in 2001.
    Sony bought Minolta in 2008 and names of Sony a7 and a9 mirrorless cameras are not accidental at all.
    The next year in 1999 the digital dSLR Nikon D1 had 1/16000 mechanical shutter. However that didn't continue. The future Nikon D2X 2004, D3 2007, D4 2012, D5 2016 all had maximum 1/8000sec shutter speed. Nowadays I doubt if any modern dSLR or mirrorless has 1/16000 shutter speed.
    I huge step backwards.
    Maybe each professional digital camera usually shoot hundreds of times more photos than film camera used to shoot. That created reliability issues with the extremely fast mechanical shutters of digital cameras.

      Red35 Photography Thanks for the reply. My comment had some errors and I corrected them.

    • @Red35Photography

      Thank you! Well, with electronic shutter, despite its limitation in terms of rolling shutter, it's capable of achieve much higher speed and now people can get away with either using e-shutter or ND filters. Back in the film days, it's not common at all. Having a fast 1/12000 shutter is pretty cool and you can achieve shallower depth of field by shooting wide open almost all the time. That being said, Minolta is still the fastest SLR (not DSLR) in the world and I doubt that will be broken now since no one is making film SLRs anymore.

      I remember Nikon F3 Ti, its a tragic & sad product,
      because Nikon paint the Ultra Luxurious Titanium Surface with black paint/ coating.
      So you cant see the Titanium from the exterior...... *LOL*
      While this A9 Ti was anodized (created by heat) so the color is permanent & has strong protective layer.
      And the color is just gorgeous, from visual point of view, its really special.

      May PoolQueen I didn't know that Nikon had a Titanium camera. Thank you for the info. I checked it on google, eBay and Wikipedia. The first models Nikon F3/T weren't painted black and were beautiful. Just check photos in google or eBay. I love anything made from Titanium. Especially the Titanium PowerBook G4 2001. Titanium used to be favorable but magnesium and aluminum alloys has proved more durable and light. Nevertheless the color and feel of real Titanium is unique.

    Ciao, you! :D Lovely to know you own this magnificent Minolta. I don't know if I had a chance to mention to you (in Lisbon!) but I am an avid Minolta user (almost collector.. as I own way too many). And the D9 is still the one I take for pro film commisions, along with the D7. Luvly stuff! Greetings from Finland!

    I always thought he RX1 looks a lot like the LeicA Minolta CL, I hope Sony will bring back more classic design on their coming cameras.

    • @Red35Photography
      @Red35Photography  7 років тому +1

      Leica Dad Wow, now you mention it, yes the RX1 does have a little bit of the CL feel. Yes, I love their Alpha cameras because they were derived from Minolta's but I am not too keen with the A7/A9 look to be frank.

    • @appledadlife
      @appledadlife 7 років тому +1

      Red35 Photography I feel the same way, the A9 has the spec and power I want, but I am having hard time liking the camera base on its look, nor have the desire to own one...

      @@appledadlife I used to have the A9 for a year, no cameras can come even close to it: 20 frames per second all dead sharp and in focus at whatever speed, zero distortion. Total silent shutter, excellent sensor stabilization. And the body size and chunkiness was just right. Sony A9 was absolutely a no-shame reincarnation of the Minolta 9 heritage.

      1/16000s is the exposure time not the shutter speed. The D1/Dh/dx have an x-sync time of 1/250s the true curtain speed therefore the shutter speed is faster on the Minolta 1/300s and it's a fullframe camera.
