I’ve never seen anyone else who does almost exactly my system! I use a sterling ink common planner for all my planning and reminders and then a blank notebook for my dailies!

Thanks for sharing Mark. I always enjoy your videos, whether we use the same tools or not :-)
My biggest change in 2023 has been to move to a more digital platform. I went through a few different digital apps before I settled (for now) on Workflowy. I dabbled with Clickup, Notion, Obsidian... They are all really nice tools but with all the features they offer can quickly become very complicated and overwhelming.
Workflowy is so simple and seems to work best for me.
So my setup right now is; Evernote for my job's work log(Since way back when) and various notes, Workflowy for all my other tasks and Bullet "style" journaling as well as quick capture stuff, and finally my Bujo notebook where I expand on my daily Workflowy entries more as a personal journal/diary.
I just can't live without the search capabilities of digital. Even when I was strictly using BUJO, I actually photographed the pages into my Evernote.
Now I export my Workflowy, month by month to Evernote, not sure why but it only takes 2 seconds.
Who knows what next year will bring. I guess it's all kind of fun.

Thanks for sharing your approach, Danny. Awesome to hear about how you are using these tools together. I've never really thought about searching before in a journal but that is a great idea.

I am all over the place. I have my A5 Archer and Olive notebook for a general bujo, one for a reading journal, and working on a 5 year journal. On top of that, I have a second brain in Notion and digital daily planner. I also have a dated planner that will mostly be for decorating. I always start off strong and then drop some things as the year goes on.

I switched my bullet journal in September from A5 to a Filofax Personal (slightly bigger than A6). I wanted something more flexible than a bound book, that I can add, remove and rearrange pages easily, and the filofax is a bit more portable than an A5 book. I'm using only dot grid paper in it so I'm still using it as a traditional BuJo, just smaller. It's working welll, and I have a nice leather cover from Wanderings that I love, so I am sticking with that for 2024. Longform journalling and commonplacing are staying in A5 books.

I’m retired, so I’m thinking about a Commonplace Journal, to catch reflections, note books I’m reading etc. On the other hand, I’ve been looking at planners too…I generally buy more than one…because, I’m fickle. Who knows where I will really land.

My planner stacks have gone through a lot of changes over the last few years, because I went back to school and changed my jobs a few times so I constantly needed different things. But as of now, I'm planning on using an A5 Common Planner for work and then a classic LT 1917 for my personal/catchall planner.
I've gotten a black BuJo every year since 2016, but my issues with the Second Edition outweighed my desire for consistency so I'm just going to take a hit with the lesser paper quality, lol. I just felt like there was a lot of wasted space and it filled up too fast for me, and I'm happy to save my nice A&O journals for long-form journaling.

I use a reMarkable 2 as my planner, journal and bullet journal. For my journal I let the reMarkable convert the text so I can send it into the Journey app. I've used it for years and can backlog moods, feelings, thoughts and everything else. Each new month I read through the previous month and write a summary into my Leuchtturm 1917, Outline. With a fountain pen.
So, there you have it. 🙂

I'm the same. I try to keep home school, dr appointments, meal plans, budget and a pain journal. I found that I can condense these into two notebooks. I use the b5 for my pain/symptom fibromyalgia bullet journal and a Laurel Denise Horizontal undated for all other things. This has brought me planner peace. I also use fountain pens and I was using the hobonichi's this year. Even though I love to write on the paper and the ghosting didn't bother me (I actually love the feel of it), I couldn't fit it all in two!

I was a bullet journalist for 8 years but I wanted to actually journal and record thoughts and feelings, but could never make it work in my bujo so I always had a separate notebook for that purpose. I’d then added a few extra planners for specific purposes (such as time tracking, writing, goal setting) so I had a chunky stack. When I change job last year and started travelling for work I need to slim down. I ended up in a hobonichi and it’s been working great. I have one planner, I don’t have to do loads of setup or carry a lot of materials with me, and I just have one other planner for writing, just because it helps me to keep that separate. Next year will be my third hobonichi and the only change I’ve made to my system is to get the avec (split into too books) just because my hobo gets really chunky and a bit heavy by the end of the year! 😬 Ghosting never bothered me… I live in a standard leuchtturm for something like 5 or 6 years. 😉

I am currently in the planning stage. Also went through my past bullet journal & planner, to see what worked & what didn’t. So this year I used a bullet journal & planner & various notebooks and notepads, and sticky notes & even the notes app. So I am also trying to cut it down. It’s hard to travel with everything, so I find that I will leave everything at my desk, and not have something when I need it.
Loving your choice to add monthly overview calendars all in the front of your bullet journal, I am also thinking of doing this. Since the future log doesn’t have enough space for what I need, even if I add 2 months on a page. The monthly overview calendar is my go to spread.

    • @markyourpages
      @markyourpages  7 місяців тому

There seems to be a lot you can bring together - but I feel you on the hard to travel with. Sometimes just having that 1 space to put things and then bring it back to reorganize is helpful. I will do that if I dont have my journal with me. Take a note on my phone or app - but then I have to be mindful to put it where it needs to go so that I dont forget.

Still pretty new to the BuJo community, but I am going to try and stick to 1 for Bullet Journaling for work (possibly the upcoming Winter release of Archer & Olive...I am a 90's kid) and another one, for just journaling and getting mind right throughout the year. I did enjoy the creativity that this brought and I look forward to your videos for inspiration

Like you I love the calendar monthly and weekly spreads that a planner provides and putting them together in a bullet journal just wasn’t working so for 1/2 this year and all of 2024 I’m using the Hobonichi Cousin and using the daily pages as a running weekly task list plus any notes. It’s worked out incredibly well this year and I feel like I finally got to where I wanted to be with planning

Ooo 1 book for most of the year sounds like a great feat. I think 🤔 I have my plan. A5 archer and olive for general Bujo, hobonichi weeks for social media planning, a 5 year journal to help me with mindfulness, and a journal for my morning pages. Oo and a post therapy recap journal. (I may fuse that with the morning pages journal)

I think I kind of know what I'm going to use next year. Hobonichi Weeks Mega as my edc, Sterling Ink B6 as my main home for journaling and maybe common planning. And a pocket because it looked really cute... and now maybe it will become my language book... and I might try to add Obsidian in the mix as my digital notebook... or maybe RemNote... not sure about that right now... and maybe a digital planner for goal planning... yeah, I'm pretty sure I will be cutting back on all of that. Those are the ideas I have for now. Though I'm pretty sure I might just stick to the weeks and B6 planner as the core since they worked so well this year.

Hi Mark, Enjoyed watching this video on your notebook stack review. I used an undated planner this year that was ok but I’ve decided to go back to a dot grid notebook to create my own planner for 2024. I like having ultimate flexibility in layout based upon my needs. I’m using an A&O A5 for that purpose and an A&O 8x8 lined notebook for a weekly memory keeping book. I haven’t checked yet but if you haven’t already done a video on Notions that would be cool to see more detail on how you use it. :)

I'm continuing with my hybrid Reading Journal/Bujo not sure whether to use a B5 or A5 or Square yet though. I have some full page layout stickers that I bought on etsy and they're all A5 so that might influence me. It *will* be an A&O journal though. I am considering making a long term collections journal to keep pen swatches, and other yearly collections in kinda like the one Jess uses. I'll see though as I'm not sure I'll keep up with it. (I know myself too well). Great video Mark, and I love how you explain what works for you and what doesnt.

I'm fairly new to this so I'm going to experiment with sizes. I already know I won't be using 6s because goodness it's hard enough to write neat, but write neat and small? I'm going to try the square journal from A&O next year, I collect stickers and image tape, and found this lovely cycle of a tape I want to use for collections that are supposed to last for the duration of the journal's life. January though... I'm debating still

I haven’t even bought a new journal yet 😅 I want an A&O or more decorative cover journal, but everyone’s doing 160gsm, and I actually hate that (feels like cardstock to me-ik im in the minority lol). But I know I’m going to have just my bullet journal and a sketchbook for my notebook stack! Probably a5, but I’ve been eyeing the b6 for a bit for how compact it is. I’m unsure if a monthly log will fit cleanly in it, though.

    • @markyourpages

Not a fan of the 160... I know you are not a lot. The LT's are nice with with 120 gsm - nice paper without it being too thick. The journal sizes are fun - finding what works. Wishing you all the luck in experimenting and find what works well for you.
