In 1973, the Leitz family decided to open a factory in Vila Nova de Famalicão, around 40 kilometres northeast of Porto in Portugal, in order to manage the increasing output of Leica products. Famalicão was the perfect choice, as the local workforce was already well-versed in the field of precision mechanics. For the past fifty years, Portugal has played an invaluable role in the manufacturing of Leica products. Leica now celebrates the success, diversity and community connecting Wetzlar and Famalicão.
hope this wasn't their only thank you for their loyalty .
Fortunately is not, many events are doing including one exposition in Famalicão house of art and many others events for the collaborators.
I hope they made also a book about that achievement.
Now you need to release a Leica 50th anniversary in Portugal
In the end it's all about save salary. For the prices of Leica Products, they could do it in Wetzlar.
Nice touch to show all the workers at the end.
At first:
- where is Portugal?

Congrats, Leica Portugal! Great job!
For me and because I'm Portuguese it was very proud to see a German company very well succeed thanks to work of Portuguese people.
I have the pleasurer to visit the factory back in 2003 in the old factory and at that time I see great commitment to work with quality in first place and proud of the work and products done.
I´m Leica user and owner I own two R cameras (R3 and R8)both made in Portugal and today both they work like new.
I would like to see a book about this 50 years of Leica Portugal, so please Leica think about my suggestion.
