    yeah, the the reason that one piece's pacing is an issue is that they arent allowed to not put out new episodes unless all people who have a stake in One Piece agree. Toei isn't the main issue. the tv network that airs one piece isn't willing to find something to replace one piece's timeslot, so they have no choice but to adapt year round. Hopefully, they'll be able to handle pace better for Wano.

    For example watching Marineford is better than reading it , just like you wouldn't read a Fast and Furious book but watch the movie , there are a lot of visual, auditory dynamics which get left to the readers imagination for exclusive Manga readers.

    I like the One Pace edit of the series but I do think a lot of these types of edits should still include some added material that fleshes out a scene or anything that genuinely adds to the series in a positive way. There’s some anime only stuff in Naruto that actually improved some scenes and moments from the manga but were removed in the Kai cut of it. I understand why since the goal was to make it as close as possible to the manga but sometimes when translating something to a different medium there’s some positive changes/additions.

    In the anime, the better episodes are the ones that aren't taking anything from the manga but use gaps in the manga or hyping an upcoming movie to tell their own story. The Marine Rookies story or the Caesar Retrieval story were both better than the anime usually is.
    Generally, I think when the anime gets to tell their own story, they can see that it is properly paced for the format.
    But currently with the anime, out of every episode at least half of the run time of any given episode is taken up by the theme song, previously on segment and then reshowing parts from previous episodes (often the last episode). That only leaves about 10-13 minutes of actual episode in any given episode.

    I've been keeping up with the anime for a little while (originally caught up during Dressrosa, gave up when an episode of Zou Arc played the exact same scene twice to fill up time, and then got back into it around the middle of WCI) and I actually like how they've done filler recently. The pace is still kind of bad (and I don't mean the recaps) but instead of doing some of the terrible things they were doing around Dressrosa's time, they have neat little extra scenes that usually fit well.
    For example, during Reverie they've done two or three cutaways to the Straw Hats during their in-between-arc travels which is something many manga readers wish would happen more often (and there's a nice conversation among the crew about Luffy's family), and they also often add little moments like Kaido's subordinates bringing him the phone that Big Mom is about to talk to him on, without making it into a 5-minute-long event. The Bad End Musical episode had a lot of added scenes that filled in the "in-betweens" of the panels, and though it still had flaws it was the best episode in a long time (I have NO idea why people like the Katakuri finale, the art is hideous and belongs in an entirely different anime).
    With all that said, though, it does really annoy me (and a bunch of other fans) that Oda is purposely skipping over things in the manga just so the anime can show what he skipped. Doing something negative to the source material just so that the adaptation can be improved is a REALLY unreasonable "trade" in my opinion, but if anyone thinks otherwise, I'm glad they're happy with it then!

      I don't think that 'rushed manga' is about giving anime more room to breathe. I am convinced that it is Oda learning from his past mistakes, especially during Dressrosa - a 100 chapter arc, where he expanded on everything and gave quite a lot of extended flashback scenes. On reread it's a great product, but for weekly readers it must have been tiring at certain points.
      As Morj has noted in one of his videos, Oda has too many ideas and things we wants to show us. No matter how exciting Wano can be, Oda is trying to cram as much as possible to chapters in order to save time. I am sure Wano is going to be extremely long... If it comes out as 200 chapter arc, imagine that with Dressrosa style writing it could easily be a 300 chapter arc....
      It is a great opportunity for anime. I would happily see a Zoro dedicated episode with some goofy, anime only encounters, when he is looking for his sword. You know, instead of being simulcasted plot line with Sanji vs Page One and Luffy in prison.
      Snakeman vs Katakuri and Bad End musical are episodes which I will hold close to my heart - One Piece getting adaptation it deserves... WCI was a great improvement over previous arcs but still, it had some bad episodes.

    When they add filler do they consult the author? You mentioned O-soba Mask VS Page One, there could be some abilities that are being hidden now to be revealed at a later stage. So if Toei make unilateral decision on what the moves list are, confusion will be there inevitable when the abilities drawn might not be the same ones animated filler style.

    Nearly 2 years later and I will say Wano arc in the anime has been one of the best arc in the series, to the point where it actually surpasses the manga a lot of the times. At time, it feels like Oda just storyboarded the manga panels to help the anime team bridge all of the little gaps in the scenes. Vast majority of the in canon filler scenes does not feel like padding. Episode 904/905 were the only few episodes where that dressrosa level quality creep through.

      agree and disagree. The anime greatly improved on scenes like Oden vs Kaido, but is greatly stretching the sail to onigashima. I'm not talking about that cool fighting scene like two episodes ago, I mean stuff like adding extra dialogue for no real purpose with kanjuro's reveal, adding a whole half episode of flashbacks, etc.

      Weekly is not an excuse. Say what you want about Naruto, it's best episodes still looked level above best One Piece episodes. Luffy Snakeman is the only episode (animation wise) that can somehow compare to best ones in Naruto:
      - Rock Lee vs Gaara,
      - Naruto vs Sasuke,
      - Naruto vs Pain,
      - Madara vs Aliance,
      - Naruto vs Sasuke,
      - Naruto / Sasuke vs Momoshiki
      Where Naruto vs Pain, Madara vs Aliance, Naruto / Sasuke vs Momoshiki are pure sakuga fests. Snakeman episode looks incredible, but it is not THAT level, as 3 episodes above. Also, Gear 4 Luffy vs Rayleigh and Pudding x Sanji filler hold it back to being a standalone sakuga fest (though this problem comes more from pacing issues).
      Ironically, both Togashi adaptations are best examples of what long running shounens can achieve. Yuyu Hakusho had consistent, good animation and was very battle heavy. Hunter X Hunter (2011) is less action based but when it mattered, it looked really good.

    • @jazzmazz9214

    All those double pages... Toei might get problems doing one episode per chapter.. luckily Oda left out most of the fighting so Toei could extend those episodes.
    But no... lingering shots on still images xD
    Maybe after all is done they'll reanimate the whole series. But that's just a dream.

    First of all, for anyone that wants to learn even more about Wano in the anime, you should watch yonko productions' new video in which he goes even more in depth about the production changes for Wano
    Another reason why Wano will be more consistent in the anime compared to other arcs is the act structure...unlike previous arcs that would drag on for hundreds of chapters with no break, Wano is divided in multiple acts, giving Toei the opportunity to add filler or recaps between acts (recaps are even better than fillers cause they wont have to spend resources for creating new animation, characters and scenarios), thus helping the scheduling of production and keeping a balanced distance from the source material

  • @gelm1r
    @gelm1r 5 років тому +1

    But there are reason some parts are being off screened for a reason; same reason why the anime never adapted the offscreen akainu vs aokiji so i doubt the anime will fill in all the missing gaps because some of those gaps are intentional because of plot points and future references.
    For akainu and aokiji we are still hyped they are still relatively unknown about their powers (we know the general gist of it); we saw them at marineford but we also saw what happend to punk hazard a massive landscape of lava and ice such event like that never even occurred on marineford. This makes people still be hyped up and speculate about their powers and scaling. If the anime DID show and adapted it and they used marineford as reference which could have been dramatic because it's not accurate to their full potential at all.
    It's also pretty much up to Oda what TOEI can't and can show, he has said multiple times during SBS interview he had to leave out little details or panels because a chapter can only be so long, stuff like that is great because the anime can show it to the watcher instead. So i do hope oda has kept a lot of extra notes for TOEI for them to adapt to patch the pacing issue.

    • @jazzmazz9214
      @jazzmazz9214 5 років тому

      By the trailer, it looks like they're adding small scenes to give context to scenarios(I think I spied the magistrate killing someone as set up for the plot point that Zoro is being accused, where as in the manga we simply moved straight to the trial with no context).

    • @gelm1r
      @gelm1r 5 років тому

      @@jazzmazz9214 But the anime already does that to a certain extend they already add those little details / context what was missing/rushed in the manga, but lets see what wano brings us.
      The thing is tho the anime team could extend certain scene by making it very nice with all kind of sick animations so they can extend the time aswell but the viewers wont get upset; example same scene for both:
      * 1 still frame shown for 30seconds or
      * different angles with animation for 30 seconds
      seems like TOEI goes for the 2nd as when the ship sinks they show all the items/debree from the ship whirling inside the sea while before they probably would have use 1 still frama with different angles to save time and use that time on scene/battles that do need animation more.

    I don’t know enough about how animation works to give advice, but wouldn’t taking more time on each episode solve all their problems. If they don’t rush each episode out for a weekly deadline, not only would the quality be better, but it would help stop the anime from catching up to the manga, which would directly help out the pacing issue. Again I’m not educated about the how the animation team works, but it just seems like if you’re going to have them working on the show until it’s conclusion then why not take your time with it. The reasons the films are good is because they put more time and effort into them. Apply that to the anime and it should solve literally all their problems. I just don’t see how money could possibly be an issue for a series as big as One Piece.
