My mother has recently reached that violent level of dementia. I’m heartbroken as today, my mom almost lashed out at random people on the street on our way home, and as soon as we got home, she started to lash out at the neighbors. They walked away scared. Now I’m scared to leave the house as I’m the only one living with her and no one is helping. 😢

How stressful for you. I hope you have tried the usual sources of help like your area agency on aging or your mother's geriatrician if she has one; the latter may not even exist in your area. I feel for you.

All smoke and whistles, as it is today nurse tech's aren't as caring as they should be, patient's left unattended without be checked for numerous hours, lack of staff, treated meanly, as in AI unit's treated better and are taken out on ride's, more things to do, and entertainment, don't let anyone tell it's the best thing to do, it's not.

My problem is cost. We found a great Assisted Living where my mom is now but since her dementia now is a risk, the memory care service is $8,000. Were devastated cause everything was set and comfortable.

No one seems to have a great answer to "what happens when the money runs out?"

@@captainviper3888 There is no answer, great or not. When my money runs out I want to die rather than be subjected to poor or harmful care by others. They probably want this, too.

Excellent, excellent information and presentation. I have been trying to describe the difference between the two models of memory care for a family I'm helping and this is going to be such a great help. Thank you

What do you do if you do not have power of attorney and recognize that your almost 98 yr old mother has dementia and would benefit from a long term care facility. My older sister has power of attorney but is not moving forward with trying to place our mother in a home. I have given her and exhausted every resource I can find. Any feedback is helpful..very frustrated with siblings in denial.

I'm sorry you're going thru this.
Idea: ask your mother's doctor to speak to your sister. Last minute resort, call county Dept of Senior Services. Your mother has rights, you are her advocate! Bty, you are not alone!
      All the best, God bless.
