I have all the original MSG albums, and was fortunate enough to meet Michael back in 2004 in Bradford England, after his concert in Rio's night club. He signed all my albums and CD's - He even asked me if he could give my wife a kiss!! I truly hope he now gets the recognition he deserves after all these years, even though he shuns the limelight.
A time of fear, so long ago Lived a man in Salon In his dark and magic room He gazed on times to come All is then revealed, and visions on water speak true! Cry for the nations, cry for the nations A flash of light, fills the night And chills the blood in his veins Will the power possess his mind, soul in chains All is then revealed, and tears that he shed were for you Cry for the nations, cry for the nations Battles of kings, and of fools And changes in ways he once knew As pages of days fade away He's lost in time... Cry for the nations Fade..
melodic sense at genius-level. I don't toss the term genius around much, but it applies here. Schenker is the most melodic, rock player you will ever hear. He is simply on a higher level than everyone else when it comes to melody. Other great players can certainly come up with a great melody in a song. Michael can weave many great melodies together in the context of one song. Listen to songs like Bijou Pleasurette, Tales of Mystery, or any of his later instrumental albums such as Thank You, or The Odd Trio, and you will hear compositions filled with stunningly beautiful melodies - some simple, others incredibly intricate. It's not just in his songs either. The melodic sense carries over into his rock playing and lead style. His rock songs - particularly the instrumentals like Captain Nemo and Into the Arena - often feature beautiful melodic themes. His lead work is also incredibly melodic, even when he's blazing away at top speed. It always boggles my mind - how many ideas and melodies Michael hears in his head. Technique and chops. Pure German precision. Michael is an awesome alternate picker. He has blazing speed, wonderful elasticity, and a fabulous vibrato and intonation. All of it utterly controlled and consistent. He's a Porsche, a Mercedes, and a BMW all rolled into one. The Ultimate Playing Machine.
As a rock lead guitarist, Michael is up there with the absolute best of all time, in the top 5 for me. Tone, note selection, melody, energy, uniqueness, blend of bluesy stuff with interesting scales, technique....he's on his own planet. My favourite stuff is Assault Attack, which is an incredible album which sounds like nothing else, and obviously benefits from Graham Bonnet who's one of the greatest ever rock vocalists (whole band was great on there, to be fair).
Early UFO....early Schenker......doesn't get much better. Was lucky to see them on the tour for their second album with Cozy Powell on drums.....fantastic. No gimmicks .....just a stack of marshals 👍
Schenker was one of my biggest influences back in the day and the MSG was an amazing hard rock band. One of the greatest guitarists of the era matched with one of the greatest vocalists of the era made for some excellent rock-n-roll.
Driving east on Victory Blvd. in West Hills Ca. and my guitar shredder roommate yells "Micheal Schenker" and whips his car over to the bus stop. There sits MS. We ask him if he needs a ride and he says that he's "not going anywhere". CLASSIC!
Tough to see guys like this age out and not have guitarists coming into the pipeline with music like this. Schenker is a genius and one of the best to come out of the boom of hard rock guitarists from the 70s 80s and 90s. that period won't ever happen again and it is a shame. The music industry has changed too much to even allow for something like this to happen. Now people think a great guitarist is the guy from Maroon 5. That guy would have been Schenker's guitar tech...maybe.
i get a lot of diss at school for listening to bands like MSG, UFO, Black Sabbath, Led Zepplin, Iron Maiden, Scorpions and other classic rock/Metal bands
You really feel this guys playin here, the Leslie West influence , Schenker is great and respected by his peers, i think thats all he really wanted, Living Legend!
Many people in the general public probably never heard of him. Michael was never mainstream at least here in the USA. He had a solid cult following though.
Chris Davies “Force it” is a fantastic album, and UFO got the sounds out of the guitar just perfect. But guitars that are so distorted as this does nothing for me. What I don’t understand though is why this guy isn’t rated higher than he is as a guitarist? He also plays slow as well as fast unlike many guitar hero’s that play this type of music.
He went through a bad time did more partyin than playin i think, but hes back and playing real well again, very very naturally talented individual , period.
All you have to do is check out ALL that is SCHENKER. Not just this song. Scorpions (yes he rocked with his bro Rudolph briefly), UFO (especially Strangers in the NIght), and MSG in all their incarnations (Asault Attack is fucking awesome.)
"Left the mantis alone". Once I found a mantis sitting on my pillow. That was kind of weird. I grabbed it by the neck and threw it out the front door. Good song.
Sean. Simpson. Here. Schenker. Going. To. See. Him. tonight. Irving. Plaza. N. Y. C. Im. Fuckin. Amped. Up. Schenker. Has. Always. Been. My. Favorite. N. Trust. Me. There. Are. So. Many. Great. Hard. Rock. Metal. Axemen. But. R. U. High. Tonight. R. U feelin. Rite. Absolutely
A lot of positive reviews here. I remember buying this album at the time it came out and I wasn't too impressed. Having listened to the fantastic Obsession and Strangers in the Night albums by UFO, this MSG album was a bit disappointing. Producer Roger Glover, Deep Purple's bass player, made the band sound so thin and forgot about the "bass" ! Also songwise Schenker's new project wasn't in the same league as UFO, where singer Phil Mogg had proven to be a great lyricist and bassist Pete Way a good songwriter. What Schenker does prove on this album and on the albums that would follow is that he's a fantastic composer of instrumentals. This man has an ear for melody, is lightning fast with only 3 fingers and has a beautiful guitar tone of his own. I think Schenker needs to be surrounded by the right musicians, and this goes for all of us musicians. His strongest album in years was going to be the Walk On Water album, when he rejoined UFO ...
I am 54 now and I remember listening to this back in 1983 on the “ Live in Budokan” album. The live version is kick ass.
Live At budokan album its not for 1983,but 1981 year!!!!!!!!!!

The outro solo for this song is in my top ten. Raunchy and tasteful at the same time. Never get tired of it.

Agree
Left the mantis alone. Great song. Happy Birthday today(January 10) to Michael Schenker. Cheers!

Not an easy guitarist to imitate well, i play satriani easier than play schenker like schenker, he can make simple licks pretty tough
Absolute classic, what a terrific song ! Schenker is a genius, elite guitar God, even if he's never liked this definition he really deserves it!
I wish l would have discovered this album sooner, it's incredible!

One of my favourite metal songs ever way to rock M.S.G THE WORLD IS YOURS ALL DAY ALL THE WAY HEIL HEIL HEIL....
One of the truly underestimated treasures of the Heavy Metal genre. MSG rules.

Stay strong young one, for your path is true!

Great song this!!!
Never has a string been bent crisper than by Michael Schenker. Well, there is that Brian May, of course. My two guitar faves.
Nurse : "your urine sample has come back testing postive for guitar godness "
Listen and then tell me if Michael Schenker got the recognition he deserves.
Many people in the general public probably never heard of him. Michael was never mainstream at least here in the USA. He had a solid cult following though.
Anxiety,precision,heart fluidity etc etc
CRY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The man is s genius, you need to listen to some of his early UFO. For example, the album Force It, will probably make you weak in the knees.
Chris Davies
“Force it” is a fantastic album, and UFO got the sounds out of the guitar just perfect.

I agree!
The intro is so sick
間違いなくMSGのベストアルバムだと思う!(・ω・)
MSG
Some of his leads almost sound like an oboe. I love his style.
i have this bad ass album!!
"Left the mantis alone". Once I found a mantis sitting on my pillow. That was kind of weird. I grabbed it by the neck and threw it out the front door. Good song.
@vermettegar I could not agree more!
Nostradamus would have been proud. Bet he didn't predict this song though.

Right? LOL
Is this intro a rip on the parrot head dude?
the pina colada song
This is the shit.
In my opinion is The best line up: 👉 Cozy Powell / Chris Glenn / Paul Raymond / Michael Schenker 🎸😎👊
that lineup wasn't featured until their next album, this lineup here is Michael Schenker, Gary Bardens, Don Airey, Mo Foster and Simon Phillips.
This is BULL SCHITT- This isn't how This L.P. Rolled in the 1st Place :0
