I like your reviews mate, I like how you're sticking to your guns and I like this truck, kinda. I'm a little apprehensive of 3S, I don't want to blow it up, I'm on a budget. But I'm going to chuck a 3S in to see what happens. Is the recommended battery max, or could you go a little larger? I've also put the 14t pinion in, as suggested by the sedulous Kiwi guy. His reviews are deep. The pinion was a seamless fit. Keep up the good work mate, I'll be watching your vids.

People can love that or hate it i dont care haha!! HBX are known to perform fine on 3s but its always a risk. You could probably go a little larger but not a huge amount of space to allow for the high capacity. Probably one of the only bad things about this truck. 14t pinion is a good shout! This is very similar to a Bezgar truck the HM164 I like the Bezgar trucks due to the same thing you mentioned they tend to flex before breaking but when the do break there is replacement parts out there.
Curious if the ESC has held up on 3s after continuous use. My esc went bad after about a month of using 2S 35C 1800 MaH. Assuming it was just a bad unit, but the replacement esc will be here next week lol
@@iainlangley sure man, I've been using "URGENEX 1800mAh 2s 7.4V lipo" on Amazon for under $30 a pair but I just checked and they are currently out of stock. I'll provide you the battery compartment dimensions in case you are able to find some other compact lipos.. 71mm x 36mm
@@iainlangley I'm planning on modifying the battery compartment area to be able to run some slightly larger lipos soon, I would say that's my biggest complaint with the HM124 / 901a the chassis is compact and the battery tray is small, the main section of the battery compartment is 71mm x 38mm but then the compartment narrows -2mm near the servo.

But I'll be checking around to see if that's safe to do so 1st. Unless you know whether it's safe to run them in parallel? I'd be getting 2 identical batteries to do this.

How about the 16889? Interested how that'd take 3s. If the Wltoys stuff is anything to go by, most of these brushed ESCs and motors don't like 3s that much!
Yes I ran 3s. It doesn't state anywhere that it is 3s compatible which is why I took a risk and tried. The ESC recognised the battery with the 3 beeps and ran continuously for just under 15 mins without issue so I would say you are all good!

It fits but its tight!! And I mean very tight!! Then secure down with the Velcro. It never came out or gave me any issues and it will give a bit more run time over the 800mAH!

I'm all for running smaller batteries for smaller overall rc weight=less breakage. But 1500mAh tightly fitting is a bummer and overall chassis flaw. Those models with solid rear axle are even worse ain't they?
Yeah they im not sure why they dont give us a much larger battery tray. If they want to include low capacity batteries then fine but at least give us some upgrade space!!

I also think its better as an all rounder. The wltoys v2 brushless will be quicker in a straight line without a doubt but its not always about speed. For a beginner looking for a cheap brushless model this is ideal and I think it would be just as durable if not more durable than the wltoys. I am also a loyal Wltoys fan but I am happy to say they made a huge mistake with the v1 due to lack of quality control. The V2 has fixed issues but they shouldn't have existed in the first place. They let standards slip just briefly to gain as much quick profit as possible and that was a bad move as they lost a lot of loyal fans very quickly and then.. the v2 turns up so quickly that v1 pre orders hadn't even been delivered before offering the v2 haha!

Any Chinese rc brand can make fast cars, but what really matters is the reliability and durability of the electronics, a defect of Wl toys is to sell super fast cars but with quality electronics Terrible (Inverters, Batteries, balancer that fail a few minutes after playing the car for the first time. ) I hope and hbx has a little more durability in terms of electronics.
Not bad for 3s! I still think this is the best Cheap RC you can currently buy even though a lot of people disagree. Apologies not much running footage the tiny 1300mah battery didn't last long after the speed run and I forgot the 2s! The main purpose of this video was to check its performance on 3s and what speed we could achieve. This is a desert buggy for the dirt and not intended for skate park use and it was incredibly wet before any keyboard warriors decide to criticise my driving skill again!! It's not about which is fastest. Anyone looking at a great cheap brushless model will need to consider more than just outright speed. Yes the 124016 will be faster for sure but as an overall all rounder this is way better. That's my opinion anyway 😎👍

This truck is a mid motor design 3s Will destroy the drive train in no time plus it doesn't have a slipper clutch. I put a 5900kv motor on it and a 35amp esc and run it on 2s. The truck rips. Do to the fact it's mid motor design and direct drive I destroyed the drive train several times on 3s off road bashing it. You definitely can't go by a single run know if it is going to hold up. Plus those esc and receivers in one are junk l have no idea how people aren't burning them up on 3s l sure as hell can't. That's One of the first things l swap out on the hbx trucks l own.
Who thinks it’s ok that Wltoys sold practically unusable off road RC’s, knew they were like that, and kept selling them? Not a crime or anything like that of course. And it’s not like some of the UA-camrs didn’t tell everyone. Some chose to ignore and it mention it which is unfortunate. But it still isn’t a business decision that should be defended lol.

Im amazed how u.k people do so much with these cheaper rcs where in usa people with that budget don't have the know how and ones who do have money wouldn't mess with China stuff
Quite a few people think it's acceptable which I can't work out 🤣! The answer is they realised the mistake and made a v2 very soon after, so why am I complaining.. Well, because it shouldn't have happened and was easily preventable. Is there a v2 144001? V2 104001? Nope, because I think some basic QC was probably used with those models. The 124016 and 17 where an attempt to gain as many sales as possible after building a huge fan base with the 144001 and wltoys knew they had the backing and support of every Rc content creator out there to help push their product. The v1 came out and was a disaster, and most honest reviewers said it was terrible whilst some said it was awesome to generate commission from sales. I have my opinion on the v2 as an afterthought and a way to bring business back after losing so many customers to the v1 issues. Just my opinion which a lot of people disagree with 🤣👍😎

Have you reviewed any of the Hosim rc cars that are on amazon? I am not sure if they called Hosim in the US and another in the UK?
No Hosims yet I do have a XLF coming up which i think may be a rebranded hosim. I may be wrong 😕

The v1 came out and was a disaster, and most honest reviewers said it was terrible whilst some said it was awesome to generate commission from sales. I have my opinion on the v2 as an afterthought and a way to bring business back after losing so many customers to the v1 issues. Just my opinion which a lot of people disagree with 🤣👍😎
@@paulclancy2404 I’m in USA. I have the budget for whatever RC I want. I mess with the Chinese stuff. Love my brushed Wltoys. The v1 brushless models were junk. Folks driving them on asphalt and videos edited for fun content aren’t going to show the whole story.
