Another great video, a lot of years ago when you bought a head gasket set you got a pair of rubber cup washers in the set for sealing the rocker box nuts.

G’day Lance, great video I didn’t know the 123 skip 1 hit 1 method my “teacher” (stepfather) will probably spin in his grave if he saw me do that, may he rest in peace. Also, so glad you backed off using silicone. I’m still getting bits coming out with the oil after 3 oil changes! Keep up this fantastic series. I’m lovin it! Cheers Gordon.

G Day Gordon, Yeah I can see there is a place for silicone but its not often my place.

Great explanation as ever Lance. Now, I've always preferred the 8 method (sure you know what I mean) why? because you're setting the tappets on the back of the cam. Does it matter? no. As long as you've clearance and no clackety clack it's fine. We used to call it 'setting the rappits', because of the noise lol. Yes it takes a bit more winding, so what. I've wanted to do a video for the past few years but gave all my camshafts away. Oh and it doesn't work on more modern engines.....got caught out in 1990 (grin)

    Hi Lance,
    Question on valve clearance.
Could you please clarify the valance gap.
All the info I’ve read and got is giving me the exhaust clearance of .008 and inlet of .012” on the inlet.which is opposite to what you are setting your clearance.
As in the process of doing mine not sure what clearance is correct.
Note, cheeked mine and the exhaust clearance on mine is closer to .008 on all valves
Mine has the Standard 87 petrol engine

That is correct. Originally the TEA had 0.008"in and 0.012" exh when they went to the FE35 they swapped to the opposite. I usually set the exhaust open a little more as it gets the heat and is more likely to expand. I have set them at 0.010" each and had a nice running engine as well as a test. Dont get too hung up on it as long as ti has some to alow for when the valves or seats wear it will be fine. 8 or 10 if you check every so often is good as the valves open more allowing it to breathe better.

Hi Lance can you help me I have TE 20 ,I replaced the bearing on the steering shaft I can not fit the steering shaft in the steering box it will not go down.I enjoy watching your UA-cam clips. Can you help me .Andrew

G Day Andrew, they will do that to you some times but make a couple of wooden wedged and hold the steering arms out as far as you can, you might need to wiggle them but you should be able to get it. Another thing is check the gears are lined up and sometimes it helps to jack the front wheels off the ground to make sure there is no other load.

G'day mate that was interesting how you did that especially how you put the rocket cover back on, would that method work for other vehicles? I had to laugh while I was watching this Sasha was with me and she started staring at my iPad doing head tilts and then went ape shit and ran outside she could hear the birds outside your shed that's how good the audio is, she picks up Kelly Dog barking to its quite funny. Seriously Lance it was a good vid on how to go about it and put the cover back on thanks mate regards John

With all of them being on the tight side makes a guy wonder if the wrong gauge was used on the prior adjustment. Wouldn't think the valves or seats are wearing that much for the limited use the engine sees.

On a new engine they will settle at times but if you check them later there would be little change after the initial re set.
