love it that the audience recognized his mistake when he said "worm" and it should have been quarter,,,,and he didn't notice!

So it's been three months since I watched this video and I tried to recall his list. I missed 4 out of 15.
So it's clear the techniques do work but still I find it hard to apply these techniques in daily life. :/
    X (monkey)
    iron
    X (rope)
    kite
    house
-fire- (I remembered that the house got destroyed by something... but i didn't think of "paper")
    shoe
    worm
    envelope
    pencil
    river
    rock
    tree
    - banana - (I knew that it was something yellow, but I forgot it was "cheese")
    quarter

When he did the last repeat of the sequence he said a worm came out of the cheese instead of a quarter. The audience reacted to his "mistake" by laughing. I thought it was an intentional joke but he did not act at though it was. He acted as though he was reacting to the audience behaving as though the list of words was too long to recite.
