Softkeys should be underneath the faders. They are more usable. I think about softkeys like keyboard. That way this controller could be usable with live performance.
Thanks for the review :) Best channel screens on a daw controller yet! However, I think a daw controller shouldn't be that flashy and attractive, because we end up using more of our eyes instead (of our ears).
Hey, Daniel. Thank you for checking out our UA-cam video! The new SSL UF8 is an amazing piece of gear and in my opinion the best small format controller on the market. It looks and feels great. Now that looks like a worthy little device. It definitely gives me the impression, of one of their much larger digital desks. Which I have used. And that seems to be pretty bad ass. The integration with ProTools looked very nice in this demonstration. If you like that hands-on feel of a large master desk. And I do. There's something much more Zen. About being hands-on and tactile with your mixing. And I would be happy to be running the Masters of a lot of stereo groups. With just a handful of faders. And then also to be able to grab for a particular channel. To tweak, to my hearts content. In that layer. Then you are just flipping through layers. It's great! I used one of their early, Acxiom MT, digital desks. And that took about 3 months to wrap your mind around. A little over 20 years ago. As one of the first master digital audio consoles. And you could configure it any which way through Friday. But not on Tuesdays. Tuesday you might just use someone else's preset? Let's try Mikey's preset today. He's doing what with the EQ and dynamics on channel 9? Really? Holy shit! What a moron! Let me change that. And then save the preset without telling him. What do you mean you're locked? WTF? When I then had my first taste of digital consoles. I could select his preset. I couldn't reset his preset. And I was like, this is going to be very interesting over the long haul. Now this little gizmo looks so much more convenient. It still doesn't make much sense but that's just SSL. You either like them or you hate them. I know how Bob Clearmountain feels about them. And that's good enough for me. As long as I can track with Neve and/or API. Then I'm good. I am seriously considering one. Thanks for the great demonstration! RemyRAD

The fact that it doesn't have a dedicated transport section is kind of a deal breaker to me. I know it can be used via footswitch (but who does it...?) or assigned to the top row of switches (and who wants it at the top...?) but to me that is a major underestimate. The SSL Matrix is well thought and laid out, they should've made a condensed of that in this UF8... I still have my trusty C8 from back in the day, and the transport section is one of the things I use the most after the faders of course...I wonder how they put in a gazillion features you can select and assign but didn't think about that...
Just picked up a SSL 2, super clean! wonder if they will do a thunderbolt mixing desk like the six and call it the SSL T6. T obviously stands for terminator.

It won’t..if you want a substitute for the command 8, and are working on anything before PT2019, a Digi 003 factory is a better option...if you’re working with anything after PT2019 I’d take the Avid Artist Series over this by a long shot
@@iag127 various things...the price tag being nearly $500-700 cheaper on an artist mix (used, cuz you can’t get them new anymore), dedicated buttons for 90% of the functions you’re gonna use regularly, actual transport controls on the artist transport and artist control, faster and more accurate automation writing because of eucon, more in depth custom mapping of controls all the way down to macro functions, soft key mapping altogether is something HUI doesn’t have that Eucon does which makes everything so much easier,....i could go on... But i will say, the faders on this might actually be a little better than the Artist mix/control faders were, simply because of time and progression. Those old Artist series faders were derived from the C24. But the S1 faders are far superior from what I’ve experienced with them. The only drawback to Eucon that i can see, or have seen in my use, has been that you have to set up a router and network to run multiple instances of the console. So if you want 3 artist mixes and an artist control, you can’t connect them directly to one another or your computer. You connect each one to a router and the router to your computer. It’s a bit of a process to set up initially, but once you know how to do it, it only really takes about 3-5 minutes

Does it work well in digital performer?
Hey, Kevin! Digital Performer is not currently officially supported with this controller. You may be able to get some basic functionality out of it, but it probably won't be ideal. Let me know if I can help with anything else!

Nice, love the display and programmable buttons
Is this compatible with reaper daw?
Would like to know how well the UF8 works with Ableton Live 11 and Studio One 5.4
One video seemed to indicate that Pro-Tools had better support. Maybe everything you really need is available when using Ableton and Studio One.
Hi, thanks for your interest! Since the UF8 uses both the MCU and HUI control protocols, it works pretty much seamlessly with any of the DAWs you mentioned. There are a few DAWs that are not officially supported by SSL (such as Reaper, Bitwig, and FL Studio) - but Pro Tools, Ableton Live, and Studio One should work perfectly fine. Hope this helps, and feel free to contact me directly with any further questions!

You can’t use this with Reason?
I don't see Reaper in DAW choice window. Does UF8 support Reaper?
Very cool....if this integrated their plug-in controller in some way I'd buy it. I'll definitely pick up their UC-1.
Just picked one up from sweetwater , I’m trying to figure out how to automate parameters using the faders . From what I gather the faders only
Work for volume automation and nothing else , what a bust .
Are faders touch sensitive_?
Hi, Eric! Thanks for your interest. Yes indeed, the faders on the UF8 are touch-sensitive. Feel free to contact me directly with further questions, and thanks again!

The V Pot ! Sounds pretty naughty....
Softkeys should be underneath the faders. They are more usable. I think about softkeys like keyboard. That way this controller could be usable with live performance.
can it do CC MIDI control? would be a perfect companion for composers otherwise
Thanks for the review :) Best channel screens on a daw controller yet! However, I think a daw controller shouldn't be that flashy and attractive, because we end up using more of our eyes instead (of our ears).
Can we automate plugins parameters?
Hey, Daniel. Thank you for checking out our UA-cam video! The new SSL UF8 is an amazing piece of gear and in my opinion the best small format controller on the market. It looks and feels great. It can be used to control the automation of your plug-ins. Using the encoders on the top and the soft buttons you will be able to make your adjustments to your plug-ins in write mode. It also has tons of other amazing features and deep integration due to the SSL 360 software.
If you have any other questions, please reach out and let us know.
Thanks,

@@sweetwater thanks for the reply my friend! My UF8 is arriving today! Can’t wait
Cheers

How does it perform with Luna ?
Hey, Richard. Thanks for reaching out about the SSL UF8! Universal Audio recently unveiled their latest update to support DAW Transport and Control, so the UF8 should work great! Remember that if you have any issues or questions you can always give us a call. We provide you Free Tech Support to help make sure everything is working well for you. If you have any more questions, feel free to reach out. Thanks and take care!

SSL should design an (8) channel interface/controller that can fit next to a UF8 for additional faders!
They should def make a 12 version of the SiX, If they do it and are able to sell it for 1.5-1.8 the price it will be a garenteed hit.
I’m in the market for a new controller but think the S1 is a better choice.
Why?
@@Tigerex966 Just because of the closer fit with my DAW (ProTools). Same fit as the Push2 and Ableton when your controller is designed by the same people as your DAW..
Nothing against SSL, I’ve got some great SSL gear. I just prefer the S1 as a controller.
@@ChapmanMusic thanks
Will this be a great upgrade from the Avid Artist Mix???
What audio interface its good to be for UF8?
Hey, Farid. Thank you for reaching out. The best interface to pair with the UF8 really depends on what you are wanting to do. There are lots of great interfaces - SSL, UAD, Apogee. It really depends on your needs, though. Give us a call and we can talk over your setup and get the right one for you.
Thanks,

I took a chance and bought an Icon Platform M+. It’s nicely designed but the faders are hellish noisy. What are these like in real life? Icon are so loud I ended up switching it off.
Thank you Mitch
Nice... is UF8's chasis made of metal?
Hey, Nacho. Thank for reaching out. Yes, The UF8 is an all-metal frame with a brushed, Anodized top plate. It is super well built and to the typical SSL standards. Amazing piece of gear!
Thanks,

I think the future is a Controler with a mix of this with the slate dIgital Raiven , you have your big touch screen with real faders and you dont need to asing nothing what ever you select on your DAW on the screen will automatically represent the faders or what ever you are looking at the screen they need to figure that one out, I think who ever comes out with this first will revolutionize the music industry , and this Controler will be compatible with all Daw , maybe Salte can add somthing like this to complement the Raiven, I was watching some videos and I dont know about the work flow on SSL Controler but it looks awesome and we know SSL is quality , I seen some comments some people dont like the Raiven wrk flow , I have a lot of independence on my hands course im a percussionist I love the idea using the mouse with one hand doing somthing else with the other hand, there is so many good options out there I thing 2021 and 2022 will se some great stuff coming out
Does anyone know how to put the master Fader on UF8? I use Live
how much ?
is this using...HUI?
no reaper support?
Basic Reaper support it says on the SSL site...
Can I flip plugin control onto faders, like you can with sends?
Hi, Kevin. Indeed you can. The SSL software allows for both "Channel" and "Plug-in" mode. It is incredibly configurable, allowing for customizable quick keys and assignable layers. Thanks for the interest!

For that price is already Allen & Heath Qu-16 Chrome, which has 16 channels and it's real mixer or little bit expensive Presonus StudioLive 32SC, which has also DAW Mode (Studio One).
Who won the january giveaway?
Does it support Cakewalk?
When they gonna make a 16ch Analog mixer ????
Doesn’t Move the volume faders on ProTools you can’t see them move and it doesn’t support Cakewalk or Mixbus 32C
Sweet controller! You can expand to have up to 32 channels. That'd really be something.
Mighty Nice Indeed

Looks nice but I'll keep my faderport 8 for way... way cheaper and similar feature set
I Love Ssl but really.....I prefer to learn the keyboard shortcuts, it's cheaper and works better.
This needs way more knobs and buttons for midi mapping. I'd rather just use my old APC40.
Why cut and no Mute😖
YESSSSS! Maybe this one can finally substitute my Command 8.
It won’t..if you want a substitute for the command 8, and are working on anything before PT2019, a Digi 003 factory is a better option...if you’re working with anything after PT2019 I’d take the Avid Artist Series over this by a long shot
@@TheMannerlessShow what makes the artist series better? Genuinely curious.
@@TheMannerlessShow NOOOOOOO!!!! these artist series controllers are terrible. they fall apart, faders and encoders stop working. Eucon crashes all the time. I have two of them and i need to get rid of them. Interested? lol
@@ajafterparty Apparently you just got some faulty units...either that or you're just really rough on gear. I have an artist control and 2 artist mixes running along with the iPad Control software...never had a crash or anything stop working. lol
Everyone salivates at this beauty until they realize there's no Transport functions...sad face.. scratch it from the wish list.
Being a huge fan of SSL, I own the SSL Six and the Fusion and have to say they are INCREDIBLE pieces of Analogue gear. But lately I see SSL, a PROFESSIONAL Audio Co. Heading in the WRONG direction. 1st with their consumer level interfaces with low Dynamic Range that you can't even use for mastering (at least it was priced right).NOW with an OVERPRICED DAW controller which is more Expensive and looks much more difficult to use than its competitors(They state it will cut your workflow times....Who's in a hurry when your in quarantine and @ home with all the time you need) Behringer and Presonus are much more USER Friendly and priced Just right and does more than what SSL is offering.I don't like the direction FADI HAYEK is taking the well respected company. For $1300 they could've offered a simplified and more affordable version of the NUCLEUS!!!! SMH. What a Shame..........
this is a much much more affordable version of the nucleus
@@JohnSmith-pn2vl Do your homework my friend there’s no preamps or audio interface integrated with this controller
@@freirod5223 yes, thats why its so much cheaper
@@freirod5223 99% do not want preamps or audio interface integrated in a daw controller, that was always the critisim of the nucleus
@@JohnSmith-pn2vl yeah $1300 for a remote control that does nothing to the sound, you call that cheap when you can get the same or even more for a few hundred bucks!
The price is a bit expensive, this should have been a 16 channel UF16 and sold for $699.99 -- The design I like a lot, but thats my opinion I dont know about other people. :)
Finally a nice controller to compete with Avis’s offerings.
yeah no kidding... all these other offerings look like a fisher price toy. Avid was the only one with a sleek design controllers but they fell apart about a year of buying them. really overpriced and poor build quality. These look like they might be promising.
Do u know if this unit also includes the same ℹ/0️⃣ audio interface as the SSL2 u have?? Can use this new unit as an audio interface at the same time??
Dedicated Transport an absolute MUST! Who TF designed this?
Alot off assignments and we haven't reached the main assignment yet.🤣😊😄☺😃😃🙃😆😂😂😁😅👍
No dedicated Transport!! Seriously. Also, what does it bring to the table that isn't already well covered by a bunch of others?
Jiminy Christmas - these mode switches / vPOT stuff looks pretty contrived and confusing. Maybe it works well in practice? Looks pretty convoluted to me tho. 🤨 Isn't a physical controller supposed to make things easier? Don't think this one's for me Mitch but nice video sir. :)
This is great but costs double what it should.
nyc content keep it up sir👍
Superb 💖
Going up against the same price as Avid S1. If the quality is there and it is QUIET it might be worth it. The configuration software is a big value add IMO. Having dedicated automation buttons but no dedicated transport is a big WTF though.
Thats all MCU based ? Can you cutomize teh VST / VSTi Parameter mapping ?
Great question! It looks like you can do custom parameter mapping with this controller, this video from SSL goes in to detail on this at 12:31:
