    This standalone video of AMD's RX 480 Polaris 10 GPU tests the reference card's fan speed (RPM) at 100%, 50%, auto, and idle settings. We demonstrate the RX 480 vs. the GTX 1070 Founders Edition blower fan noise levels subjectively, then provide objective measurements for more detail. Pastechi Yup. The reference 480 actually sounds pretty normal at 50% but once you crank it up to 100% it's like having a leaf blower in your PC. It moves a crazy amount of air at 100% too

    • @FacelessVoidDota13
      @FacelessVoidDota13 8 років тому

      Nope, that happens only when fans set to auto AND you are overclocking, but even if it did it's with 50% more performance plus the same power consumption.

      Nope, that's at stock, it thermal throttles at stock above 80C. And nope, it draws more than the 480 overall. www.anandtech.com/show/10446/the-amd-radeon-rx-480-preview/6

      Son37Lumiere At Hardware Unboxed videos for the 480 and many others, the power consumption is the same ,and even if it's 5-10watt difference the 1070 eats 480 for breakfast, as for temperatures the Nvidia goes for less noise it thermal throttles if you want it to remain silent.

      Look again, 37 watts lower and while numbers vary between reviews Anandtech is the most trustworthy and reliable.

    According to your data, the RX 480 has similar noise levels to the gtx 980, 1070 and 1080, and similar temps, around 80-83C. So why is it some people say the RX 480 runs loud or hot? That's just bullshit since they never complaint about such things about the NV cards.
    This is AMD's best reference cooler for a long time actually.

    • @thegatesoflogicx3069
      @thegatesoflogicx3069 8 років тому +1

      the 1080 runs at similar temps to the RX 480, but the 1070 runs significantly cooler. Add in the fact that the RX 480 uses almost exactly as much power as the 1070 despite being a lower performing card and you might see why people are disappointed.

    • @SilverforceX
      @SilverforceX 8 років тому +6

      TheGatesofLogic x So it's not as good as a 1070. It's also half the price. If people are upset over that, they are expecting too much for a cheap card.

    • @thegatesoflogicx3069
      @thegatesoflogicx3069 8 років тому +1

      Yak It reflects poor efficiency on the part of AMDs new architecture and GlobalFoundry's 14 nm process in comparison to nvidia's new architecture and TSMC's 16 nm process. People were expecting the card to be far more efficient than it actually is.

    Wouldn't it make more sense to measure them at the same RPMs? In my belief, that would have been a little more "subjective". I haven't seen or heard any of them getting anywhere near max speed. Even in PaulsHardware maximum overclock I believe he only had to set his fan at 60% to maintain decent temps. I'm not sure what the point of this test is, or even making a video over it.

    0:25 "...the fan at 100%, you should never have it there".
    The thing is. If you bought a blower GPU and plus, live in a tropical country, you should consider this. I use mine at 92% while gaming for years since I bought it. There's no gain in speed above it, it's the actual "100%". The higher volume of air let almost no dust acumulate and keeps everything cool. I don't mind the air noise, I kind like to see it at full. Its not a stressful noise. I can resume that I just fall in love for blower GPUs. Both the classic sober design some of these has and the exhaust function.

    One of the most important issues in today's gaming computers is to transfer the heat of the entire case, just in the case is packed with a lot of electronic components and is small, on the outside. You can avoid the noise with open air solutions (open inside the case, but not on the external room) but in that case all the other electronic components including the graphic card will suffer the heat, reducing the lifetime of your entire desktop.

    I just got a PowerColor reference RX480 and its fan has an annoying "mechanical motor" sound to it, its a much louder secondary sound characteristic then the primary fan blowing sound(noticeable as low as 1k RPM). I was wondering, is there any aftermarket "stock" fans available that I could replace it with? - does it happen to be same fan used in reference 7xxx series? I don't want to send the card back over this, its an excellent undervolt/overclock card.

    Nice, but the video took too long to get to the point. An abridged version just showing the noise at 100%, 50% / auto, and idle would've been better, and maybe a quick comparison to the 1060 or 1070.

    I'm surprised no one has done a fan speed/temperature profile while doing all of these fan noise and temperature "reviews".
    Every channel has it out to show that these cards will sit at whatever temperatures you've recorded them to run at, but as they are out of the box.
    So no tinkering with a custom fan profile will help thermals?

    3 More expensive than a 970

    2 CF rx 480 is not faster than nvidia 1080
    3 The card is a hot potato running at 91 C
    oh and %1.6 overclock causes the card to go to hell . Literally go to hell with

    • @nhozdien5058

      those fanboy always make everything mess up. AMD delivered what they said (1% less but ok those)

    • @yahtadi5152
      @yahtadi5152 8 років тому

      Lol no.In earlier AMD somehow manage to leak some benchmark that crossfire 480 beat 1080. Lel, classic AMD.
      When every tech utuber reviewd pascal, people be like "enough with pascal, where is new red and shit(while rx 480 was not even close in the corner)", but i aint going with that hype train. I gues im right
      I will back to red team sometimes
