I understand your position, and so say this as an American but understand that it wasn’t the direct wish of the queen for it to happen. She became queen after the royal family were stripped of any actual power. The massacres were done by the governments of that time. The Royal Family had little say then, and they have little say now. They were committed in the name of the family by the government, but not by the family.
Also, remember that there were bad people on both sides, and atrocities were not privy to one or the other, as evidence by the bombings. I’m not denying that it wasn’t down to the fact that it was the UK that occupied Ireland, just that we do live in a different world where the UK and Ireland are close Allie’s, and that we should forgive, and not forget.

It's absolutely fair to say that other countries governments and rulers have done cruel and awful things to their own people. I too have English cousins and most of my friends growing up were the children of English expats (I had no one else in Ireland to talk about Monty Python and Blackadder with). Honestly, you're coming at this with a very hopeful and optimistic outlook and I don't want to be the person bringing negativity, which can often be the case with lefties like me.
But the one thing I would say in response is that even if Elizabeth, Charles and William are all decent human beings, the reason why they have so much money, why the Royal family is among the largest private landowners in the world, is because of years and years of horrifical colonial brutality and theft, a shocking amount of it within the age of colour TV (check out Double Down News - British Empire for some truly shocking footage of British concentration camps in Kenya in the 50's). That doesn't make the Royal family themselves bad people, but a significant portion of their wealth is ultimately stolen from the people that Britain colonized. I think that the only way that historical harm can be remedied is for Britain to become a republic, and for the Royal family to cease having any relation to the state (even in a symbolic manner) and just become another rich family. I don't think they have to give their money away, they can make as much as they like off tourism and magazine deals, but in my lowly opinion, their institution is too tainted with the blood of colonial atrocity to be rehabilitated.

I didn't acknowledge in my previous comment, but absolutely there were terrible atrocities on both sides of the Irish conflict. I do want a United Ireland someday, and I support Sinn Fein becoming the next ruling party in Ireland, but the IRA did some awful, awful things during the Troubles, particularly their campaign of forced suicide bombings in the early 90's. Indefensible.
And yes, while I do believe in the principle of 'The Buck stops here' when it comes to leaders, you're totally right that the Queen has very little direct influence on policy, especially when it comes to foreign policy, so I'm definitely indulging in hyperbole there. But at the same time, it is worth noting information that's come out in the last few years showing that the Royal family has a considerably larger influence on British politics than it previously seemed (The Queen using the Royal Prerogative to change legislation to exempt herself from financial and environmental laws without the public knowing, Prince Charles 'Spider letters' putting influence on ministers etc). I think they do bear partial responsibility for the actions of the British state in any circumstances, which is why I think Britain shouldn't have an official monarchy, it's just too tainted.

If Queen Elizabeth goes, the institution of the British Monarchy as a tradition goes and ends with her. What is currently left (Charles, Camilla, Andrew, Anna, William, Kate, and at the "far end" Harry and Meghan) is nowhere near what she resembled and still resembles, and the Queen knows this. I think this is the reason why she's not willing to abdicate yet. She doesn't see anyone around her that imbibes those norms, values, and character to rule as a modern-day monarch, unblemished in integrity and reputation. By hierarchy the title King is above the title Queen so if the actual Monarch is a Queen her husband by marriage cannot be above her so Prince Consort he is. If you want a murderer to be a king, you should make him a chief of bandits, not a king. Think logic. Once you get sidetracked, you loose the focus. And there are universal standards, that every human being knows by heart: decency, trustworthiness, honor, etc., and appreciates it, when sees one. That is why the whole world loved king of England George VI, and his daughter Elizabeth II, for those values.

Camilla’s title will be Queen Consort which is given to the wife of every reigning king. It’s just a title, she will not be a reigning queen,Ike Elizabeth, sitting in a throne and wearing a crown, only Charles will do that. .
