    Farming with new equipment is more enjoyable then farming with old stuff that breaks down. Old equipment, fix fix fix fix fix. Been there, done that!

    A $350,000 tractor pulling a $100,000 grain buggy, chasing a $550,000 combine around the field. Modern farmers amaze me. If they have a 7 day harvesting job, they'll buy enough equipment to finish in 5 days and then complain the other two days that they aren't making any money.I've farmed for 45 years and I have what to me is nice equipment but it isn't what the younger generation would be seen driving.

      I agree but having the equipment to get it out in a limited window for good yield and dry crop harvest is nice. If I farmed it would be a mix of older 80's- 2000's equipment thats been well taken care of and alot simpler to do your own mait on.

      Not true about all the younger generations, I'm 31 and the biggest tractor I've run is a JD 4520, newest being a Kubota L3510.....would love a shot at driving around something massive like most farms, or what they should be called, corporations, run such as that DeltaTrac in the video, but highly unlikely to happen lol

    You are lucky. I live in Iowa and in 2018 we had more rain during harvest then we ever have. Towards the end of harvest the corn had a little bit of snow on it. We have a creek across the road from my house and before last year I had never seen it flood. It was bad

    I don't know about today - I remember sneaking a ride in the back of the corn picker risking being hit with ears of corn. Taking my little wagon out after the field had been picked, looking for left behind ears. One year I made $35. Things did take longer back then, but it still worked - even if you had to work through the night to get the crop in. And if you ever passed a Dairy Queen, you had to pick up milkshakes for the guys in the field on those hot summer days.

    Is the combine using data from the planter on row positions? For example, when making a "first cut" through the field, it seems to know the multiple of the 12(?) row head. Is it being GPS controlled down the passes, based upon the data records of where the planter passed?

    Why not to put the trailer running next to the harvester pumping directly in the carrying container the grain, instead of pumping the grain in a container hauled by a tractor then the tractor takes the container to the trailer?
    Money savings

    • @Beyonder8335
      @Beyonder8335 2 роки тому +1

      Efficiency, it allows everyone to keep moving. It keeps the combines empty so they never have to stop, and keeps the trucks full so they can keep going. That way instead of the trucks having to follow the combines for a few hoppers full for a while by the time they get there a grain cart has a load all ready for them. In addition, a tractor pulling a grain cart handles the terrain much better, in terms of being less likely to get stuck, and a much smoother ride for the operator.

      All combines lose a little bit, but it isn't much. It has sensors that will realize if too much corn is going out the back. I believe modern machinery have gotten aver age loss down to the 2% to 4% range compared to the total amount shelled.
