What puzzles me is that Vargas is trying to state a former opponent cheated after all of these years. They fought in Vegas meaning the wraps differ from NY and other commissions. Naseem Richardson brought this up in NYC. I respect Fernando's career the youngest champ at 154 but he is way off in his comments. He had a great camp, superb corner and real skills. If there was something foul going on in the opponent's corner they would've picked it up in an instant. This was a mayor event, a mega fight.

Damn I've lost respect for this guy. How does he explain getting knocked out by Delahoya when he was on steroids ? Tito only used extra wrap to protect his knuckles and too much knuckle wrap is not allowed if the other guy doesn't use the same amount but it doesn't add any extra power to your punch. All these years later and Vargas still crying about getting knocked out, Joppy made the same claim but the truth of the matter was that the commission checked Tito's gloves and wraps after each fight and found nothing wrong, the guy just had tremendous power. You can't use the Hopkins fight as a point of view, Hopkins trainer just complained that Tito used too much wrap, it was just a mind game because Hopkins wanted all the advantages he could get because he was afraid of losing because he knew Tito could whack hard, Hopkins is a piece of shit to this day, I don't give a shit how much he works on HBO as a commentator or the Fight game, the guy is an ex con who was a dirty fighter but couldn't take it when he dished it out, his biggest claim to fame was beating Tito and Oscar who were both welterweights who moved up two weight divisions to challenge this piece of shit Hopkins. When Tito fought Hopkins his training was disrupted by 911 attacks, Hopkins was able to go back to Philly to train and Tito was not allowed to fly back to Puerto Rico, instead he had to train in New York which was unnatural for him and jog on the streets of New York, the whole fight was rigged and it was Hopkins who cheated along with Don King. Hopkins hit below the waist many times during the fight by hitting Tito on the side of his sides, fuck Hopkins that asshole, this is one Puerto Rican who will knock forget how Hopkins threw the Puerto Rican flag on the ground and then ran like a bitch when the fans chased him, yeah real tough guy, fuck him and his apology and fuck Vargas too while I'm at it.

Tito punched with his feet, using his somewhat unorthodox stance, on the balls of his feet and with a lot of leverage. He wasn’t muscular but he was all fiber, and it’s amazing that after all these years people who claim to know about boxing never caught on to this.

It’s simple, go and watch the Tito fights and you’ll see what I was saying, Tito always got criticized by his stance, but the there was a method to the madness. He in order to punch effectively stood on the balls of his feet, specially the back foot, I’ve also noticed that by doing that, you can get to your target more quickly. Tito used this in all his fights, and this is to get to the target quickly, not to punch hard, that was just to set him up for the hard punches. Go and watch him fight and you’ll realize what I’m saying, most of these boxing “experts” don’t know squat about boxing.

I picked it up just as it happened I remember it like it happened yesterday. There where no talks of a rematch either. Had it been a close decision I would understand but there is no controversy in a fight ending with Vargas getting dropped 3 times and being saved by the ref.
What's really messed up is that Vargas fought a one hell of a fight and people here argue he took that fight too soon. Vargas was the man to beat at 154.

@@enriqueg1987 Every state has their own set of rules as far as how they do things. Hand wrapping is one. It varies from state to state as far as what constitutes a legal wrap vs an illegal wrap. Most of the times the differences are inconsequential. But Naazim (RIP) was good. He always did his homework with things like that and it got into Team Trinidad's heads.

Trinidad never loaded his gloves. Richardson himself said they weren't stuffed, they just weren't wrapped the proper way under NY commission. Trinidad had 4 fights after Hopkins and scored 2 KOs. Plus, Trinidad fought Vargas at 154 where the gloves we're 8ounces. At 160 Trinidad was wearing 10ounce gloves.

The way Tito wrapper his hands gave him the advantage of harder punch without hurting his knuckle !!! But it was legal!! I used to wrap my hands the same way and it would allow me to hit harder and my knuckle wouldn’t hurt at all if any. I tried to wrap it without packing the gauze but my fists would be sore and swollen so I switched it up to packing. So to sum this up , there’s nothing ilegal about packing the wraps as long as the commission of that stage ok’s it.

Don’t have to be. Fernando Vargas stayed this after B-Hop’s trainer stated that Felix hands were not wrapped the way NY commission liked but they were never legally wrapped. It was that they wrapped it like they always did which is legal in NY and every state just not in the way the commission wanted for that fight. Vargas heard this and chose to run with it and still does instead of realizing how great of a fighter he was and focusing on a fight he clearly lost mind you to a smaller fighter as Felix was coming up. You had to of been older to know this.

It wasn’t the wraps why he lost. It could be he challenged himself and went up in weight when he didn’t have to. His mission was to go up and try to get a fight with Roy Jones Jr.
Did Delayhoya do that? Did Vargas do that? Did any of the top fighters from the Jr. Welterweight or Welterweight greats of that era do that while still relatively in their prime? I know that answer and it wasn’t the wraps. He lost three times to bigger men hence why there are weight classes. Although Hopkins throws elbows and headbutts constantly especially during that fight more so than any other fight. Also, the wraps were legal anywhere, it was the way they were wrapped which is still legal but NY is different. It is the same way Vargas and Oscar and Chavez wrapped their hands in Vegas. What a dumb statement from a guy who doesn’t know boxing.
