100000% The Jagex launcher was never about making the player's experience better. It has always been about controlling something. I guarantee you, if they can't get away with putting ads in game, they're gonna try putting them on the launcher
we cant let our money leave our country so either runescape invests in things or gives it away to investment bankers and they choose the kind of people to sell too
what if runescape used that money to invest in infrastructure and reduced membership costs cant they predict their market 20 years in it when players can only earn and hold so much
I couldn't agree more man! As a lifetime player stuff like this is unacceptable. The membership price increase was already annoying, and this news is really disheartening to hear.
I really hope they don’t push the player base away enough to just make the updates they want…like what happened with EOC and RS3…with no players left around to stand up against to it, the business side of Jagex takes over the creative side of it. Honestly, I think I’d live with membership price increases gradually over time to cover the difference to keep providing new content and support! Like they have given us soooo much content to enjoy for one fixed price for so long…or maybe a DLC or Expansion Pack methodology would work better than membership increases across the board? Just pay for the new content/regions you’d like to…when they become available. For example Varlamore…they pushed that out months ago at no additional cost. Some players jumped on it…but I have barely stepped in the region. The expansion pack method would allow eager players to “buy” that new released content…while others who aren’t interested in it can wait or not buy it at all. Just an idea! But these other changes they are making are insane - stripping existing offerings and then charging us for them is not going to fly!
I'm probably a bit delusional...😅...But it feels like these recent changes may have been connected and are being used to corral us players to a corner, controlled entirely by Jagex.
Why do you think they're killing support for the Java client? These changes will come *by force*. Whether we like it or not. Restricting you to the Jagex Launcher is their version of a wet dream. All under the guise of account security, convenience, anti-botting measures, and serving you better.. Isn't that lovely?
I don’t mind Jagex asking for more money or creative ways to attract more customers for the longevity of the game. But unfortunately I believe the private equity owners and CEO(creator of squeal of fortune) are capitalizing on short term gains instead of health and longevity
I tend to agree - like I mentioned, the amount of entertainment they've been providing for such a long time at the same price has been incredibly in favor of the gamers. Most other games/gaming companies just pump their players for money and do annual title releases with marginal updates to keep on extracting as much as they can. It's been a major selling point for people to return to OSRS...so when they start to go against that methodology it stings! But I agree - if we need to slowly increase membership prices to effectively pay for all the new content we are getting, I'd understand that. But don't strip away existing offerings and try to charge us for them...i.e. RuneLite, Mobile/Non-Mobile Accts, SUPPORT!!! (not like we had much of it anyway) 😅
But maybe we players don't jump ship too soon, if so there's even less of a chance for this game to survive! I feel Jagex gains momentum with their bs changes when there's even fewer players around. Less pushback on the proposed changes.
I dont play OSRS cuz I dont wanna start over, but I dont want OSRS to fall in line to what RS3 is. Also, have yet to convert my RS account to a jagex account. I still use the old runescape launcher, not the jagex launcher to run RS
I made this same decision when returning to the game back during the pandemic, ~2020...I even hopped back on the RS3 account but it wasn't the game I remembered/enjoyed. So gave OSRS a chance and started from scratch. Now we are creeping back to the days just before EOC again 😵🥴
@guttbustr to me, I'm convinced that Jagex made EOC to keep up with WoW. The 4:1 ration of old school to RS3 player base says what the Players want. It's far too late now for RS3
I still play on runelite and never did the jagex account thing and glad I haven't with all the problems I hear about the jagex accounts. But sure it will become a problem soon with still using runelite.
Oh really? I wasn't 100% sure if the door has closed and only Jagex launcher accounts would work or not....I hope we keep some other channels for accessing the game open!
I like the way you formatted the data points and voiced your concerns with each one. It's almost like you do some of this for a living... I think it is concerning for the future of the game. Hopefully the push back was enough to give Jagex pause, but I think the apology wasn't anything I haven't seen before working in corporate America. Surface level, tone deaf, and maybe an mvp type product released with the survey and it failed miserably.
Completely agree! The "apology" was very corporate/sterile...did not speak to the player base at all. Which makes me concerned that...they aren't really apologetic...they are going to find less obvious ways to slip these changes in overtime.
Agreed - I really haven't removed my membership...yet. 😅 But these conversations need to happen because without them and people stepping away from the game...our player community voice gets diminished...and the business side of Jagex overpowers the creative side of Jagex (like our mods and devs).
It's not that it's just a survey. It's that they already have these ideas in mind. Who knows how they plan on implementing anything they're mentioning here, and when.
The whole ordeal was so obviously bad PR that I think it feels like more of a machivellian buisiness politics maneauver to block it occuring than them actually being that stupid.

the entire concept is simple what makes a premium brand the fact our rich value you enough to elevate you into their circle of investment marketing
who is this money benefiting the rich who throws it at all sorts of things like kansas kentucky utah mississippis growing youth birth rates

A lot of people seem to forget that jackx tried to do a tiered membership system in the past just to roll everything back within a week
I seem to vaguely remember this - but great call out! It had slipped my mind too!
Friendly reminder that jagex makes 50% profit margin and absolutely does NOT need to do any of these things they are proposing.
I hadn't even looked into their profit margin %! If true, 50% is absurd! 😅
Yeah, 50% seems insane. Do you have a source?
@rileystrom8530 it's open information, even on there wiki page it talks about making near 50% profits
hold on.. people actually fell for the jagex launcher scam?

@ Agree completely - just trying to help some people connect the dots with what's going on...if they weren't already aware! It's not looking good 😓

The powers that be said they want more revenue.
OSRS players all jumped off when EOC hit.
This is probably the end for real this time.

The read headed step sister company Artix has only made aq3d better since launch incase ya wanna double dip ^3^ member is only a one time payment also
they will charge U a premium for using that background
🤣🤫 don't tell them!
Jagex nearly killed their game once, they’re so dumb they’ll do it again!
This may sound dumb, but in the end its just a survey, after all the backlash on this survey surely they won't add this stuff

Ironically, this surfaced on the week before the player leagues are set to end. Coincidence? I think not.
