    Amazing to see the link of the mountain goat footing here in the mountains of North Carolina to the Scottish blood of early settlers here in the USA. I love it and could dance and here the fiddles all day. Beautiful talent and hello from North Carolina USA

    Thanks for up loading and thanks, Paula. Watching you and others, i am slowly picking up techniques to learn dancing myself. I had a bit of diabetic neuropathy and found this dancing is excellent therapy for it 👍

    I'm not really into Country , however I love watching Flat Foot Dancing . With the Fiddlers cooking , and the rhythmic movement of the dancers really gets my feet a tappin !

    My mother had me take tap dancing lessons when i was a kid.I wish this type of dancing was available it looks wayyyy more fun.

      She's really cute. I'm a woman and she doesn't interest me like she does y'all but y'all are right. She's adorable. It's nice to know some men don't need/want the Barbie type. 😊 My husband would think she's a cutie.

      @@stephenwright832 I need to show this comment to my granddaughter. She has VERY high functioning autism. She's 5ft. tall with long curly hair. A little cutie. She thinks all boys and men want a Barbie look girl. She's 19 but it makes me sad that she thinks this way. I have raised her and my children to understand that if your heart isn't pretty then you aren't pretty. No matter what you look like. Be you male or female. 😊

    My grandma called it "buck dancing ". She was from Southwestern Virginia.

    to us hillbillies that live up on the mountains
    this is cloggin done with shoes on,
    flatfootin is done barefoot
    and cloggin with taps on is for newbies and square dancers
    but I still enjoyed this

    memories. ... so long ago. never knew what it was called....used to have pig picks. drink moonshine...the real stuff....and the Ironworkers. would get going
    only thing is their feet never got very high ....but they moved very fast. and many would play spoons... old old memories

    Well it's not really practical to flatfoot barefoot on old wood...
    The difference is clogging steps are much higher off the ground and more forceful.

    These pro musicians are not Swedish, but well established American beares of Appalachian traditional music and dancing. No matter how good you are, you can always be better. Paula is regarded as a very good clogger though...

    So if this is clogging and not flatfooting, can someone recommend me any good resources on what the difference is? And then what's buck dancing? I'm trying to learn about these dances but it's proving a bit of a struggle. :p

    6 and a half decades and I'm probably ruined with a rock and roll childhood. I first started listening to Bluegrass when the Goddess Alison Krauss and Union Station decided to visit us mortals. I am fascinated with Appalachian clogging, but every time I watch, it seems that all of the music is practically identical. Can someone help me out? There have got to be nuances that I am missing. Maybe a suggested playlist that can highlight some differences?

    @ roleca1978=---John Hartford fiddled this one on an album and he called it "Lost Indian". There is a totally different tune also called Lost Indian. Take your pick, I guess. I may stand corrected, but I call this tune "Lost Indian" a la John Hartford. Molsky does a great job on this one and Brittany Haas is no slouch herself. Good job folks!.

    That is more of a clog than a flat foot dance. Flat footing has much more of a matching sound to the music and the upper body is almost motionless in flat foot.

      joe woodchuck Not exactly the same, but similar & closely related ☺ Her dancing here is actually called buck dancing imo.
      Flat footing is more like tap dancing

      Clogging is a lot more forceful or energetic, with more up & down movements than side to side, often pounding down on the floor hard & bouncing up too. Look it up & enjoy! 😀👍💛 This is exactly how I clog in Western North Carolina since I learned in childhood, my favorite video:

      @@christine6059 The term flat foot is what it is called in Southern VA & some parts of North Carolina. Below is the History of Clogging and also shows various names. I live in VA and have heard the term used by my elders when I was a young child.

      Clogging is what I always heard it called. I also heard Henry the 8th clogged with his wife Ann Boleyn.

      That's clogging or a variation of Irish clogging. Flat footing has!no tapping!sounds or steps

      Moonshimmer777 You have to feel the music for a minute first & get in tune with it in your body lol 😊 You'll notice other dancers of these styles often do the same thing.
