don't forget to go into the BTS settings or Katana Librarian settings and go to the amp settings and turn off the "Live" setting and select "Rec" setting..its a HUGE difference especially when you are plugged into a mixer or recording equipment ..I use a Tascam portastudio DP-03 and its awesome but it sounded like shit before I found out about the cabinet settings and changed the Live to Rec (record)..do this and you will see what I'm talking about..I just want my fellow guitarists to get the best out of their Boss Katana amp..no thanks needed on this one

what is direct mix for
On my version 3 combo,I program in a boost on the crunch channel, turn it off with the foot switch, change to another channel and back and it's back on! Does the opposite on my version 2 head
That's normal if the patch was saved with the boost engaged.

You can engage any effect whenever you want via the GAFC.

Hi, yeah, you just hook the Katana to the computer, open Tone Studio software, import the Patch and then assign it to one of the Katana banks/channels. Cheers
So..once I make a setting such as using the blues driver and tone and bottom...is that auto transferred to my amp so I can hear it right away? Or do I have to write it and assign it to a channel to be able to hear it? TIA.
Write it to a channel to stay there. But you can play with the settings you want and not save them. Cheers

can you save a some costume tone to your amp and play that tone with out pc and how many tones you can save
Yes you can. Well, first you need the pc if you want to set other effects, etc. You can save 8 patches on the 100 watts and 4 on the 50 watts. With the proper footswitch (GAFC) you can then choose any bank. But you can use just the amp, build your tone and leave it to a slot. Cheers

Hey guys, I'm on windows 10, with katana artist. Downloaded tone studio, and updated drivers. Still getting :This "KATANA System Program" is not compatible for KATANA Mk II series. error message. As I have the artist, It is saying I don't need the newest update 4.0.0 for tone studio. so.. I just want to get this thing working.. help?
Windows should find the correct driver automatically. I does on mine.
So you get all your presets or patches or whatever in Tone Studio. And you can use Tone Studio to select them. But then what? You add say, your fav 4 to some quick select button on the actual amp and you can select those from the actual amp? And the dials and knobs physically turn all by themselves on the amp? Or they don't turn and it doesn't matter where they are physically on the actual amp? Do you unplug the usb cable? Do you leave it in? I don't quite get how it works between the software preset selection and the physical buttons and knobs on the amp.
Yes, you assign them to banks in tone studio, those banks are the Katana button channels, CH1, Ch2, etc. where you select the patches. No, the knobs don't reflect what you've done in software, so it doesn't matter where they are. Yes, after that and if you're happy, no more USB. You only use tone studio via usb to load or create tones and assign them to the Katana channels. Hope you understood. Cheers

Hi, once the patch is saved to a bank in tone studio you control those patches from the GAFC. The GAFC has the same banks as in tone studio. Do you understand? Let me know. Regards

The Adobe air thing is essential! I've been messing about for an hour. I couldn't find s place to download Adobe air but eventually found s link to Softonic. I downloaded Adobe air from there and then my tone studio app started to work when I opened it

14:03 your right it's not really a modeling amp when you compare it to other modeling amps like the Fender Mustang series amps or the Peavey VYPYR series amps..Line6..etc ..Boss really changed the game when they made the Katana model amps especially the MKII series..I own a Boss Katana MKII 2x12 amp and it's the best amp I have ever owned..it sounds like a tube amp without the warm up time and you get a shit load of tones and effects for free..I prefer it over a Marshall stack anyday.

Juca subscriber here to your channel love your videos but I need some serious help. I have called roland cant get tech support on phone due to corona virus.i could really use your help. Here is my issue. I have a katana 50 watt and the boss tone studio( pc version ). I am trying to adjust the device input and out out setting for the boss tone studio to get my sound coming out of my pc speakers or pc headphones instead of katana speaker. I have tried all kinds of settings with no luck . I have set input to katana one not second and out out to my pc sound card and it defaults back to katana input and katana output. Any help would greatly be appreciated I am majorly stumped. I am doing this under the katana setting not the katana daw or katana ctrl. Not even sure what those are for. Do I need to be setting those instead.
Hi, Thanks :) I really don't know how to setup that in Windows since I use Mac. Do you have an external sound card? If so you will need a DAW, software for recording and mixing. On the PC get Reaper or Studio One free. There you will be able to use the Katana as the main input and then choose your sound card as the main output. If it's an internal sound card you need to post this on my Facebook group for better help. Let me know. Cheers :)
The Boss Katana TS videos are very good. There is one problem thus far, in regards to the foot switching. For my Boss FS-6 I have the 50 Watt with two channels CH1 and CH2. There are some videos mention that you can have up to four channels but from these videos I do not think that works.
I am under the conclusion that you cannot have four different amp channels - you can only have two switchable channels as it relates to the amp having only two channels.
For example - if I wanted CH1 to be clean and CH2 to be clean with boost. Then I do not think you can switch to a third or fourth channel with the FS-6 footswitch. I wrestled with this and cannot find an answer I sent a message to BOSS Support to ask them this question.
There is a BOSS video that claims you can use channels 3 and 4 but he does not show it swiching channels in BOSS Tone Studio and quite honestly I think it does not have that switchable ability, Hope that my question was clear.
Here is what I am trying to accomplish with the FS-6
Tone Studio Layout
CH1A to be clean
CH2A to be clean with boost
CH1 B Brown Sound for rythym
CH2 B Browb Sound with Boost
You can set it up like this in BST but the FS-6 will not switch between the others, I have tried differenct combinatations with theh A and B (Latachable) on the FS-6. Any help is greatly appreciated!!
Hold down the panel button while you are on ch1 or ch2 and it switches to bank b ch1 and bank b ch2

How do I save that setting on my pc after I edited it? I just finished editing one preset and clicked on the panel name and the whole setting was restarted. Thank you in advance
You click write and then choose a bank from the ones on the left. Or, export the setting from the Librarian Menu. So, save first on the left. Then drag and drop to the Librarian. You need to create a setlist to add your patch. Then you can from the librarian again, export the patch to the pc. Restart is not good. Let me know how it goes. Cheers

So I've downloaded and set everything up for Mac and every time I run it I get "KATANA connection failure. Please select external MIDI/AUDIO device connection. Please turn unit from slave mode to normal settings." and I have no idea how to fix it
I get the same thing, I worked for hours to fix it, no help from Boss Katana tone studio!
Randy Schmuki I figured it out actually. Idk if you have the MK2 or MK1 but I have the 2 and I realized I downloaded tone studio for the 1. Make sure you downloaded the right one and do a firmware update on the amp and that should fix it
Can anyone help me out? I'm having problems with Tone Studio.
1st. Tone Studio gives 2 Katana devices to pick from at startup, I only have the 1 Katana amp and want only one option.
2nd. No matter which Katana device I select the options go back to Katana as the Output on its own. I need to be able to listen to it through headphones, I do not want to listen to it through the amp only through my computer.
Any suggestions are appreciated thank you!
1. Two Katana devices is normal. I just pick the first and it works. What computer? Do you use any external sound card? On my Mac once the Boss Stock Studio is activated the Katana gets prioritised and I need to go to settings and choose my sound card. Let me know. Cheers
Juca Nery alright I can live with 2 I just didn't know if one was my older version and the other was my new V3 update. And I've tried going in to choose my sound card but I just can't get it to work, I use a Saffire 6 and have it set to my output but in Tone Studio it automatically changes it back to Katana as my output

just get a OTG cable and a USB cord and plug your phone into your amp..use the Katana Librarian app from the playstore..it does all that Boss tone studio does and MORE and you don't have to lug a laptop around or plug into a computer...your welcome

Im new to the katana. I got it at a pawn shop. And im not really very seasoned on the computer end. This is a great detailed vid. All of the different things done in this video look sensible & easy. I'm the dummie who just wanted to see how you save everything to the channel and panel You want properly... The one thing not mentioned. I'm sure it's so simple it wasn't mentioned... but.. i don't want to spend two hours building the perfect tone that I want on channel 2B... & it goes away when i clic on a different channel. Does that make sense? Anybody clear that up for me real quick? And feel free to make fun of me

This is a great video but still no luck with my mk2 100w I really love the amp but this tone studio is a nightmare and it shouldn’t be just got a brand new computer running windows 10 and have done everything I could find and I have the right firmware and drive installed still getting connection failure pop up and I also did the mic settings thing I’ve read about I’m at a loss
Again great video 👌 and I hope other people have a better time then I have I’m about to just go for an audio interface and try my best to get some plug ins to work 🙏🤘
Ronny, I too was having issues with getting Tone Studio working. I finally wrote directly to Roland Boss Product Support. They are super responsive and sent me all the download links I needed (including the Adobe Air link). I was beginning to think the previous owner had "bricked" the amp, but I'm super happy I was able to get it to work! Good luck!

Thanks guys i definitely won’t give up trying and I’m a glass half full kinda guy as much as I can be so I’m looking on the up side that the new interface I got has at least gotten me into the world of amp plug ins and effects that I’m excited about witch also has its speed bumps but Hasn’t been nearly as stressful

Also I did buy the foot switch for the mk2 witch definitely has changed my relationship with the amp and has made me love it more then I did so maybe one day persistently trying will pay off if not all in all it’s still very fun

Exactly. The only mode that is nit "fixed" is the panel mode so you can alter the sound at any given time. Cheers

Oh god same! Did you ever get this resolved?
@@smrob yep, go to their website and follow the procedure, I was doing it wrong at the time we need to press panel and channel buttons first to update the amp software and then the amp folders will show, put the updated files on the amp folders and Bam it won't ask for an update. Basically you need to update your amp. Just Google the procedure and update the version of your amp to the latest by coping the driver and software to the amps folder.

I had the right drivers, and tone studio software, but needed to actually download the system program update, and put those files in the katana external drive for the amp to update! this was 2 days of figuring out, and you saved me. DIgging into the software now. thanks community

When you say use parametric eq outside of fx to keep fx free is that the global eq that sits independently you are talking about?
That's the only eq I have that doesn't take up a slot on my katana air
If it is that if I make a tone and save it as a Preset is global eq also saved
@@kevin285 No, I don't use the global eq because as it affects all channels you loose versatility. So I use the parametric eq which doesn't occupy any slot and then when needed I use the FX to load the graphic eq. At this point you will loose some extra fx that you might want. Cheers
Ah I think my air is different to bigger katanas as i can't get to my parametric eq without it being via fx slot

my tone studio is kinda different from yours.its more simple.i have the latest version v1.0.2 for windows 10.maybe coz you are using mac??
This one is for the MKI. No, it's the same for Mac and Windows. This one is now in version 4 but the interface didn't change. The MKII has a more advanced and pleasant interface.

@@JucaNeryGuitar Device not Found. Or, Connection Failure. My driver loads fine, but when I open Tone studio, not so good. I notice you load driver from the website. I let mine load automatically when I connect usb cable.

Another thing I notice is when my driver loads, I find it located in 2 places. Start menu and Devices in Settings. When I open Tone Studio, the icon changes from a speaker to a rectangular box. Don't know if that has any bearing or not.

Downloading this is a clusterfuck. So many people are having issues and what a POS Boss had created with this.
I purchased Katana 100. Was happy first 2 weeks. Now after couple of years struggling to get any decent sound out of it and only using it at home here and there I am absolutely pissed off with it. IT IS A PIECE OF SHIT! Today just to upset me even more I can't get any decent volume out of it. My cheep 10W practice amp that I found thrown out in the street has more guts. Fuck Katan and Boss

Boss studio makes me feel like a f****** idiot the programis a dumpster fire if I ever get it open. why the hell is it so difficult to open. I had to quit trying after 6 hours. Juice is not worth the squeeze I'll just use my android device and the knobs. Boss Why?
