  • After her father’s Hodgkin lymphoma diagnosis, Stephanie V. still never thought her persistent cough was anything more than allergies or asthma. But after her cough got worse, she was rushed to urgent care.
As doctors cleared fluid from her lungs, they found a mass in her chest. She was then diagnosed with stage 4 primary mediastinal large B-cell lymphoma, only two years after her dad’s diagnosis.
In this conversation, she voices how she processed her diagnosis, how she advocated for her health and how her father’s diagnosis impacted her cancer journey.
The interview has only been edited for clarity.

Very happy you’re doing great❤❤❤. Thanks for this informative video. I recently had a chest X-ray due to a persistent cough that kept getting diagnosed as an allergy. Fortunately, my chest X-ray was negative of any masses. My Mom was diagnosed with Stage 3 Non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma in January. She’s doing better and just completed chemotherapy treatment number three.

What did your cough end up being?

Yet to be determined but I’m no longer coughing at all since I’ve been taking care of my Mom who lives in another state. My Doctor ordered allergy tests and an order to check for asthma. My chest X-ray was negative for any masses.

@@FitnesslovesFashion hm, okay. Well I’m glad that your test results came back okay. Let me know if you find anything else out, I know someone with a cough for years but doctors can’t seem to figure it out.

Hodgkin's Lymphoma is relatively simple but Non Hodgkin's is a minefield of various types mainly B Cell with a small minority being T Cell and a tiny amount NK Cell.I developed one of those T Cell ones called Mycosis Fungoides which is probably the most common of them but still one 5 people in a million.I will have to have a Stem Cell transplant because of it this coming year (2024).

Sometimes cancer cannot be spotted by a simple xray, it need further tests like mri, ct scan, biopsy, etc.

And a good radiologist, without a good interpretation the patient would be dismissed.

And the American medical system will bankrupt you for demanding all these tests- only the super to ultra rich can really afford all the existing, and certainly any ‘cutting edge’ treatment. It’s like everything else in this life, it’s all a crap shoot from which country you are born in to what parents you have to what genetics you inherit to what chance you have getting this terrible disease. I hope that in future generations, there are cures that are both 100% effective and available to everyone.

I don't understand people who present themself to a doctor only after months of not feeling well.. from ignorance??

I haven’t felt well for years, even been to the ER numerous times. I have a dozen specialists, and I’m always the one thinking of possibilities, not them. There’s the random doctor who gets a diagnosis spot on in the first visit, but in the end, I had five different diagnoses, taking years upon years of not feeling well and normal blood work all the while. Doctors tell you you’re aging, you’re under stress, you’re getting your period. Hell, I have Sjögren’s Disease, not once in 3 years have any of them attempted to screen for lymphoma. So, you know, that’s why people don’t go, they tried already and were dismissed, or they think it will resolve itself.

I skimmed the transcript and she never tells us which of the many, many “diseases” her NHL is. Is it marginal zone lymphoma? Is it Burkitt’s lymphoma. Maybe it’s diffuse large B-cell lymphoma. Maybe it’s angioplasties yadadada!

Cancer rates have skyrocketed since the "safe and effective" was mandated. People coming down with all kinds of neurological diseases, like MS, strokes, lymphoma, heart attacks. The death rate has climbed exponentially in the last 1 1/2 yrs since the rollout. Crimes against humanity.
