  • Ever since the introduction of the Apple Pencil and its pairing with the iPad, I've been on the hunt for a high-quality pencil tip and screen protector. When Astropad unveiled their latest screen and tip solution, I wasted no time in making the purchase. It turned out to be a wise decision because it completely sold out within just six hours! I've always admired the remarkable work done by the Astropad team, and my instincts told me that this new product had to be nothing short of exceptional.

Thank you for this review! Super helpful. Does that little bit of air that you mention a few times eventually go away? I can imagine having a bit of give with each stroke would be annoying. Love your enthusiasm, though, that’s very encouraging.

How much does it affect the color during videos and such?

When I have used other metal tips I’ve consistently produced wobbly lines when drawing, especially on diagonal lines. This was very prominent in Procreate. Does this happen to produce the wobbly lines?

Just to add… It is most evident on slowly drawn lines.

I wonder how long that plastic screen cover will last with that metal tip digging into it. I’d like to see how it looks after several illustrations have been done on it.

@@DEPICTIONILLUSTRATION I really like seeing your urban time lapse videos and digital watercolor, pretty much anything you do I'd watch lol. I do urban sketching on my I-pad as a hobby and I love your style.

Thanks for the review! There is not much info out there and the screen protector is quite expensive. Do you think it can be used with wrap-around (bumper) cases like the logitech keyboard ones? Also, how durable is the screen film? What about the tip? Is it compatible with features like tilt or hover?

Yeah. There's little info available for Astropad's setup which is why this video was posted. I was really interested to try it out and provide at least some feedback for folks who were interested. The Astropad screen protector is only slightly thicker than a "normal" screen protector. I'm sure it would work with any ipad case/cover. We'll see how durable it is. I don't have the latest iPad (with hover), but I couldn't imagine that it wouldn't work as intended. The tip does work with tilt. Thanks for the questions and taking a look at the review. Cheers!

I just watched another pretty in-depth review on this and they said that when you have the protector on, you have to press way harder when your digital painting for shading with tilt and stuff like that. Did you find You had to press way harder when you were painting?

I watched a review like that too, which also had concerns about the metal "ballpoint" tip leaving scratches. My question on their FB was, is it really a rolling ball tip or just stationary metal? No answer yet from Astropad
