    This sweet is traditional Thai dessert that hardly found now a days.For base is made of mung bean flour, Jasmin water and sugar you can put food coloring in base For topping is made of coconut milk, rice flour and salt this sweet name means have soft palate, smooth until forgot to swallow.

      No. It won't give it that gooeyness. A substitute would be tapioca starch. I make Thai desserts and i use that as a substitute.

      Jelly texture. Can't think of any American dessert to compare it to but it tastes like mung bean and coconut.

      You can honestly just fill it in a regular plastic cup. Don't worry about finding that mold if it's too much work.

    Do we have to use mung flour or starch? Mung flour i have is yellow not white and i made the dish with it anyway and it turned out to be horrible. Please guide.

      Flour. Idk what kind you have but mung bean flour i find is white. Try tapioca flour if you no luck with mung bean

      A Thai net-wanderer stumbled upon your question. If you ask me whether it need to be topped with coconut I would say it "should be", not "must be" . The saltiness of salt+coconut milk as topping will balance the sweetness of the dessert. Otherwise that sweetness would be too bold. (Think about the famous Thai mango sticky rice and many more Thai desserts, same reason) It's the art of cooking. I ain't mean Thai cooking, but all. You have to know what, when. where, how, and why to put in each dish. But, like I said, it's just "should be", so feel free to make it with your preference.

      @@h455hn unfortunately they are not. I said unfortunately because I bought mung beans to grind them to flour for this dessert but on further research I found that the ingredient is starch not flour. I can extract starch from the beans but I didn't buy enough to get even half a cup of starch. Now I don't know what to do with the beans or how to get starch because I already challenged my family that I would make it. Now if I change the dish or get new ingredients I will be taunted for the rest of my life.
