- Jim Henson produced commercials for C & P Telephone in 1964 and 1965, and the ads then aired from 1965 to 1968.
(Henson also produced similar ads for Southern Bell Telephone.)

Lastly, Kermit hires Suzy to torture Mack on using the telephone directory.

What happened if you didn't dial 1 for long distance?
It depended on the telephone equipment at the central office, your local exchange codes, and what you actually dialed. Essentially, you would make the telephone equipment do strange things. You could get strange warning tones or even the wrong number by omitting the 1. The purpose of the 1 was to tell the equipment that you wanted to access the long distance equipment.
