I don't mind the Absolute Batman costume, yes he has a rectangle on his chest but the costume has a "less is more" kind of change to it, he even has trunks! (sincere cheer) What ruins the look for me is how big he is. He looks like Brock Samson nothing against Brock, I love Venture bros. I just can't help but feel like i'd enjoy the costume more if Bruce's body looked more like Henchman 21 for the later seasons of Venture Bros. Gary Fisher has muscles but also has 20 - 30% body fat. A Batman with that body type would be a real underdog!
Stuart Immonen is a master! I have original art from him hanging on my wall. But to be fair, he has been quite open about using reference quite a bit. For characters, I think, he mostly uses ghotos of himself posing and for vehicles and stuff he creates Sketchup models.
Ultimate xmen is what got me regularly reading comics again and it's sooo good. Absolute treat every month. It's beautiful and well fun to read. It reads like a manga and it's so great for that
Incredibly late here but a couple things: Hoss Delgado is a cartoon character from the late 90's to mid 200's show Grim Adventures of Billy and Mandy, voiced by Diedricht Bader (aka Batman from The Brave and The Bold). The character is a pastiche of 80's action movie elements basically Kurt Russel mashed up with Ash from The Evil Dead. Re: Copyright and Trademark. Chris mostly covered it, but to fully explain. Copyright is a temporary protection for a work. You copyright the comic, the movie, the song, the game, the script etc to prevent other people from legally copying it (as in, just making copies of your work and selling them) or iterating on it (aka them making works based on yours as in, a sequel to yours or using your characters in theirs.). See that's why it's called copy right it's about the right to copy. Copyright has a finite time and works are generally expect to lapse according to the laws of their time so if the law was that you had to have the copyright at the start of the work or that you had to renew the copyright every few years but you didn't, then that work is lapsed. Trademark is the symbols and signifiers of a business or service. That's the name of the thing, the logo of the thing the slogan of the thing sometimes the color schemes of the thing. The idea with Trademark is to prevent something called "marketplace confusion" AKA prevent you from opening your own restaurant called McDonald's and make people think you are related to the famous chain restaurant with the good(?) reputation. In terms of comics and such this would include obviously the name of the comic, and any symbols that identify the character and such. You probably can't make your own comic also called Blue Beetle because they would argue it causes marketplace confusion, but you can make a comic called something else that has or even start Blue Beetle, and call him that in story. Sometimes people sidestep the name anyway because they either don't know this or want to have an opening to eventually put give the character their own shot at having a self titled issue and don't want to ruin it by calling them Daredevil, Quicksilver, or Captain Marvel and getting into an unnecessary legal battle with anybody. The thing is you are only able to use the material that has fallen in public domain. You can reinvent it to be wildly different, and then that reinvention is yours, but you can't use DC's reinvention, or mine, until they themselves fall into public domain. So you can use the original Blue Beetle, create a new style Blue Beetle, but you can't use DC's Blue Beetle from this year, and you certainly can't use mine. You better bone up on this stuff, Superman, Captain America, Wonderwoman, Batman, and Namor are gonna be public domain in basically less than 15 years.

IIRC, JMS didn't even sign a contract, before DC announced Flash Earth One, so I don't even know if he wrote anything for it.
