It's a bit hard to believe that there are only 68.3K genius Homeskoolin subscribers that hang out with Uncle Larry. By far, the coolest hang on the internet.
I already set the reminder bell 🔔 for Homeskoolin Live! w/ Guthrie Trapp on Bret Papa’s channel which I am anxiously awaiting because the first episode of you and Guthrie jamming, shooting thr shit and just having fun while sharing some amazing knowledge was one of the best videos I’ve ever seen on UA-cam. Period. That’s the definition of pure gold. It’s so awesome that the couple of Corona Lessons I watched like a maniac and told my girlfriend about and made her watch and told my parents about since they love music and whoever else would listen, that it’s become a huge channel with tons of views and followers and respect from the guitar community like I hoped it would. I just kept thinking, “ man if this channel doesn’t blow up and get a lot of followers and attention than I don’t know what will. I also wanted you to see how much we all love what you do Uncle Larry and how much we truly appreciate everything you put out and all the wisdom you so graciously impart onto us Homeskoolers. I watch a shit load of UA-cam but this is easily my No. 1 favorite channel. Nothing else even comes close. So if anyone starts to fuck it up for you, don’t forget about us die hard fans. Happy 4th Uncle Larry. I hope you have a good one with the kids 👍🏼
Hey uncle, I love that Genesis tune - it's my favorite: "Turn It On Again" That guitar sounds awesome - whoever wins it is gonna be lucky and very happy! Looking forward to seeing you and Guthrie, along with Bret Papa! Should be tons of fun! Thanks for everything - God Bless!
As soon as you counted it out I got the flash back. Dont know how cuz its been a real long minute. Now you got me thinking about me and sara Jane and all sorts of sh*t Ya need to teach us stuff like this......it's gold
Hey Tom! I got to say this particular episode is my favorite of all that I’ve watched. I’ve been fortunate to call Bubba P. my friend, band mate, guitar and amp tech and advisor for close to 40 years. He is a walking encyclopedia of musical knowledge and especially vintage gear, but really anything guitar related. Just recently picked his brain about guitar Leslie’s, having just acquired a Leslie 16. He’s a constant source of useful information and an incredible source of inspiration and one bad ass or should I say bad rabbit guitar player. He always speaks highly of you, your playing and your friendship. I’m so glad you give him props because he deserves them. Thankfully he has a great wife and partner in Anna his better 3/4’s. Really dug your playing and demonstration of the pedal Bubba uses. Anyway, love what you’re doing and the honor and affection you show to our mutual friend and mentor, Bubba P / Greg Sarley. Keep up the great work and let’s keep this thing going…don’t screw it up!
Ah, Vito Bratta…so talented, but so missed. He opted out of the bright lights for decades to tend to a dying family member. Have to give the dude props. Vito left an indelible mark on 80’s hard rock. In my dream of dreams, he’ll return someday to record new music, solo or otherwise.
Uncle Larry you are the bananas in banana pudding. When you go a few days without posting a video my subconscious mind knows that something is missing. It is like having a cool uncle checking in every day - plus great guitar inspiration.
Agree - met Lamar and bought two great analogman modded boss pedals from him at the Franklin guitar show few months back (met you too!). Great dude, great gear.
If I ever have the honor of meeting you, beers are on me! You keep inspiring me EVERY TIME I hit one of your videos! No more public school for me... it's all Home Skoolin'. Keep the Uncle Larry vibe alive!!
My first time in the Rainbow, Axl Rose was in a booth by himself signing autographs and being pleasant, Jeff Baxter and John Entwistle were at a table together, Lemmy was at his machine at the bar and Ozzy was walking around. We gave Ozzy a ride home because he didn’t drive and was there alone. He didn’t even know us. True story and incredibly surreal.
Love that song. The chords they play are so good. They build so much anticipation, curiosity, wonder, and sound so good. Thank you for being one of the few positive things I have these days. And yes, please everyone- don’t mess it up! Ha!!
I bought rolling rock when I went to go meet up and jam with a drummer that I met. I was really nervous and I had my rolling rock on top of my amp. I bumped the amp and my rolling rock shattered on his basement floor. Went to get a towel and clean it up and his dog came down and started licking up the beer and proceeded to knock my SG on to the ground. Somehow the headstock didn’t break off (I’ll never know how) but it wouldn’t work after that because it fucked up something in the input Jack wiring. It was really embarrassing. Hahaha. We still jam tho and that was a few years ago. Love your tunes uncle Larry. Sorry for my rolling rock tangent, I thought it was fitting.
I am going to jam with a old friend of yours from your school days, Michael Le Fever in Las Cruces this coming Tuesday. My name, Tim Harris. Love your sharing with everyone!
Your the man Tom. Plain and simple. Respect all day to bubba for helping encourage and help you along your way to making it doing what you love. For me your playing is awesome, hands down but its what you choose to play that for sure stands out. You did what we all hope to you have your own sound and you know how to create with those chops in a truly wonderful way. I love hanging with u. Keep the videos coming . I have never missed one. The very first thing I ever heard you play to the opening of your rig rundown with the black sg special I was like wow awesome piece of music...all your playing on there was amazing I remember seeing you just strike the open chord on your 335 and instintly smiled..Im always working away but will never sound that good, I know it...Thanks for inspiring me to keep going..
Holy shit that was unreal man that brought it all back for me my dad used to play turn it on full blast thru two Bose 901s in our living room when I was a kid👍
That Multivox pedal sounds sweet! Also, a big thumbs up on the Buzzard shirt (like your friend Gregor, Independence is where I grew up). Thanks for all the inspiring lessons!
Funny story. I had to learn that Genesis song on keyboards for Easy Street. That was in the days of cassette tapes. The tape I got was done on a portable with a motor that was too slow, so when I played it on mine at the right speed, I learned the whole song in C instead of B. And I COULD NOT transpose those chords on the fly so I had to play that song with my boards tuned down a half step. Cassettes... LOL!
Thanks for sharing your boredom with us Tom. Always nuggets of inspiration. The old off the wall pedals can sometimes be the greatest finds. I have an old DOD ENVELOPE/ FILTER 440 from the 70s or early 80s that was collecting dust at a local music store, I got it for $20. The thing makes all kinds of interesting sounds when you tweak the dials. Looking forward to the live show! 🤙
Oh yes, Lamar at prerocked pedals is awesome. I remember buying pedals from him 10 years ago when he had his pedals in a book bag….now he’s one of the biggest used pedal suppliers…..great guy.
There is a special fraternity of young guys who worked in cool music stores.Owners were always 40-60's but the guys who made the place run were the gear heads in their 20-30's....
Makes me wish I had sent in a post card. Not that I ever win anything, somebody else deserves it more than I do. I really hope a young cat, really working hard on his chops gets it!!! 8) --gary
Dude love Duke. Hated Phil Collins shit before I watched this show. My dad always hated it. So i grew up with not liking it. Turned it up loud at his house the other day. I am teaching him to like it. He still screams NOOO. But soon he will say YES!. hahah. i dont mind. i love it. sick record.
Oh... And by the way... I knew many gifted Cleveland musicians from my participation in the community as a "rock photographer and journalist", with many good friends in that community. In my experience, many of your Cleveland rock musician ancestors would NOT be surprised at your success and accomplishments. You have been a source of astonishment for decades!
Just learning to play Eastbound and Down on Bass. So I check out a few covers on UA-cam and stumble across Jake Owen. Who do I see playing in the video? Old Uncle Larry, good times :)
You know, Uncle Larry, I'm not a Cat. I don't play because it sounds good (but I'm trying). I play because it feels good. Being a Homeskooler feels good. I look forward to each class, first because of your otherworldly playing, but also because of the great community and the laughs. Have had my Session Man Duesenberg for about 10 months and it's crazy legit. The pickups, the piezo, the feel. I like to imagine you giving your input until they got it right. Of course the assheads will say crap they'd never say in person. I'd say all my stuff in person though. Beginning with just "Thanks".
Reminds of a Marshall before it blows up. I wonder what Bubba was up to. Joe Walsh - I’ll never seeing The James Gang at Blufton Ohio. Joe was killing an Echoplex that night. There was so much musicianship. They used Shure Vocalmaster sound system, and the band never stepped on the vocals. What a great trio. I hear Joe’s name, and I think about being 19.
Ha! I was just playing that song ( and the Trick ott album)for my 14 year old nephew today. He is way tooooo deep into pop/top 40. He fucked up and walked in the house with a pink Floyd t shirt on. ......... and couldn't name a song. His edumacation started today.
Is there a chance you'll ever interview Bubba? Sounds like that would be a fulfilling discussion. I always thought you asked some fine leading questions. Would be fun to be a part of that!

Thanks to you Uncle Larry, we have not just a good thing, but a VERY good thing going, and rather rare in these crazy times. Thanks.

I’ve heard all sorts of reasons for why Vito “retired,” but this is the most realistic reason yet.
I've been dying for decades too
Yeah... don't meet your hero's.
Nice T-Shirt great station saved my sanity when I was 16 visting family in Cleveland in the 70s
Hi Tom, thank's a lot for the trick with the B string, creates such a cool sound !
Had to come back and watch again (a couple of times). Boy, I really dig when the piezo is added to the sound.
Every one wants to be there playing and hanging out, it would be pretty cool

Nothing like a classic Buzzard t shirt and some Genesis!!
12:02 100% !! The solo in "Wait" is one of my top 3 from the 1980s (or even all-time)... so melodic and builds on EVH without being a clone
