    Mitch,
    Good video. One comment; by spinning your crank handle full circle you are defeating the purpose of cranking with your left hand, If it were to kick back near the 5:00 position, the crank handle would fly back around and hit your arm.
    When cranking with your left hand you should pull from about the 7:00 or 8:00 position to about the 1:00 position. If it does not start, just reset the crank to the 7:00 or 8:00 position and pull again.
    Jim

    A very enjoyable video! Can you please explain the details of advancing spark and retarding spark? Where do you put the selector to drive in normal conditions? Thank you very much!

    Hi Mitch,I see by the comments that I can run my 1925 T on 98 unleaded... Thanks Can you tell me what is your trick in getting it to idle on full retart is ok on advance is the timing out ...Regards terry.bell Auckland NZ...

    • @ModelTMitch
      @ModelTMitch  9 років тому +1

      +terry bell dont let it idle too long fully advanced, the engine will overheat very quickly. To get a good idle with the spark retarded, I recommend taking out all the spark plugs, give them a good clean, and do the same thing with the timer - remove and clean, then apply a light film of oil around the contacts and roller, then re assemble. -- These two things will make a world of difference. I would also recommend checking how rich your mixture is. Each Model T is different, mine I close the needle valve all the way (dont reef down on it!!)... then I re open it about half to three-quarters turn.

    Mitch, what oil do you use and how much of it?

    • @ModelTMitch
      @ModelTMitch  10 років тому +1

      Anti-Matter I use Valvoline XLD Premium 15W-40 -- Ensure you DO NOT use any oil with names like "Magnatec" or similar Magnetic Oils - while they are fine with modern engines, these oils contain magnetic particles which attracts the oil to metal surfaces within the engine and gearbox. These oils are damaging to a Model T, because of the magneto. Magnetic oils will gum up the magneto and prevent it working very quickly. The Model T holds about 4 litres. A good rule of thumb is that you need to fill the engine oil until the oil pours out when the top petcock is open. If the oil does not pour out, then add more oil.

    do engines of model T's and A's need leaded gas? or is modern gas no problem for these cars? (i don't know what you guys in the US use but here in belgium i use 95/98 gas) allso, i've read down there that the engine will overheat if put in full advance, is this thesame for the model A?

      ***** They don't need any special fuel, I usually use 95 octane, it's cheaper than 98!! .. They will even run on E10 if its available. (petrol / gas with 10% Ethanol). remember this was a multi fuel engine.
