Without the influx of Na irons, Nociceptors fail to send signals to the brain when there’s tissue injury. This is the mechanism of CIP or CIPA.
Congenital insensitivity to pain with anhidrosis (CIPA) is a rare autosomal recessive disorder of the nervous system which prevents the feeling of pain or temperature, and prevents a person from sweating.
What is CIPA and why is it fatal?
Congenital insensitivity to pain and anhydrosis (CIPA) is a very rare and extremely dangerous condition. People with CIPA cannot feel pain [1]. Pain-sensing nerves in these patients are not properly connected in parts of brain that receive the pain messages.
What are CIPA symptoms?

Congenital insensitivity to pain with anhidrosis (CIPA) has two characteristic features: the inability to feel pain and temperature, and decreased or absent sweating (anhidrosis). This condition is also known as hereditary sensory and autonomic neuropathy type IV
The cause of CIPA is attributed to mutations in the NTRK1 gene. Mutations in this gene lead to a loss of the sensory neurons, as well as the ability to feel pain. Diagnosis of CIPA is usually confirmed after a complete evaluation of infants with recurrent fevers, who frequently bite their tongue, fingers or lips.
