That's Mizrahi Food nothing to do with Sepharic food. Hello Jews from NYC. Beyond your bubble world thousands and thousands of jews live in many other countries around the world. Yemen Jews, Italkims in Italy's, the Keipi Mountain's of jew's Georgia , Armenia, Azerbaijan, Iranians , Latin Americans Jews, Chinese , Ethiopians And the largest Sephardic community in France has more than 500 thousand French Jews, northern Africa.
I'm Sephardic Turkish, from east coast of USA. I remember my Tia Elisa in Istanbul making Sigara Borek, Shepards Salad with Salty Feta, Russian Potato Salad, Roasted Fish (WITH THE HEAD ON OR IT'S NOT AUTHENTIC), homemade baba ganouche (roasted over open flame of course), and the black wrinkly olives... aaahhh I can taste it! Rest In Power Tia Elisa!
I'm multi-generational Istanbul Turkish and you just described the food of our peoples period. Ama, bizler ona "baba ganouche" degil; patlican salatasi derdik.
@@llovefood4927 Shakshuka may be eaten by everyone but it is not Sephardic - it roots may have been taken from a similar Sephardic dish called huevos con tomate but it is not the same. Sephardic food is not spicy. Sephardic food roots come from the Iberian Peninsula, not the Middle East. Mizrahi food is delicious but it is different & distinct.
I assume Sepharadi/ Mizrahi food wouldn't be as foreign to Ashkenazi Jews from Hungary, since the Hungarian cuisine uses a lot of spices and colors too.
The sabich reminds me of a middle Eastern version of oblozene chlebicki (au-blozh-ene khleb-eech-kee/arranged breads) ,a slovak open face sandwich consisting of bread spread with mayo,(deli meat),sliced tomatoes, boiled eggs , green peppers, pickles, and grated cheese. Also sabich is more vegetarian rather than vegan as lacto-vegetarians eat dairy,ovo-vegetarians eat eggs,lacto-ovo-vegetarians eat both, and an side category pesco-vegetarian fish. Vegans do not eat animal by-products, even if it comes from a natural ejection of the animal as opposed to a slaughtered one, including eggs, lactational animal product ,and commonly honey.
I like spicy food, but it causes my nose to run. Its genetic, because my mom had some sensitivity to spicy food. I love Thai food, some French food, Indian food and some Chinese and japanese food. But I don't like ' American' food. And that's fried food. Oh yeah, i like Italian food too and Spanish food is absolutely divine. Maybe Sephardic food is a take on Spanish food.
true that ethnic iberian jews don't exist anymore but they intermingled with local jews in North africa and thats how there are sephardic moroccan jews
Poor people they are so used to bad food that they can’t even enjoy normal and good food! Ashkenaz food is one of the worst , unpleasant from whole Jewish world .. chciken soup and kugel is ok but rest is just bleh
Sephardi means from SPAIN/PORTUGAL so the cooking is very much like the medieval Spain and Portugal (with the food religious restrictions of course). As they left Iberia the received influences of the Mediterranean countries where they settled. And well.... now a days they venture with more dishes as there are more available ingredients and kitchen appliances. All the dishes tried are common in Spain, mostly in the south. Sephardi gastronomy is tasty, and has a lot of variety.
Sephardi went to the Mediterranean parts of europe hundreds of years ago ..but they were exiled in the 14th century they were told get out convert or face death so they left some went back to the middle east ...but yeah they left a lot of their culture there and took some with them back to the middle east. very few sephardic jews remained in spain ...they left for macedonia bulgaria italy a part of sicily bosnia ...and some back to the middle east so it's a blend of all of that.
Sephardi food trumps Askenazi food any day. Its not even close.

Tia is the Spanish word for “aunt.” Did you grow up speaking Spanish?
They're so oblivious to anything outside their bubble, it's sad really.

ah, the bland diet of the Ashkenaz
These people fail to give kavot to the food in front of them. The hungry and the educated will praise, bless and eat all kosher food offered to him.
It's pronounced Kavod :)
spicy food tastes better

The real sephardic meals are from Jews from the Balkans such as Turkey, Greece, Bulgaria
