Had the pleasure of watching them play recently with The Mission in Glasgow. Still a great band. And the image still works well, when the band is onstage under the lights and with so much power, who cares if McCoy is 30 or 50??
***** Sorry Eddiane, I do owe you an apology. Had misunderstood your post as 'does someone care' about my post. Seems a few people in this topic care about McCoy's age, which seems crazy to me. Love and Peace. A.
Great reply Jessi. Ha ha ha. I remember in the "good old" days i.e. about 24 years ago when people what ask .How old are you ? The reply, are you talking vampire years, earth years OR angel years ? I would say 33 million years ..... then no one would say anything followed buy a very uncomfortable silence.
I think thanks to M.A.R.K.13 - HARDWARE I came across this band. Listening objectively to his voice, imagining he'd visit a vocal teacher, there's a lot to be optimised - from the teacher's perspective. Like with Björk: a teacher would destroy her own strange technique as well as that voice. I love character voices very much, even if they might irritate. Smashing Pumpkins, Shane McGowan and so on. Anyway, I love the fields of the Nephilim - always make me feel comfortably apocalyptic, hang out in a nuclear desert and fire one up, listening to their music.
Yes, he is all that & more. Carl and the boys didn't play the corporate game, and hence . . . no real acclaim. They were easily the best musical band out of the inbred UK and, by default, Ozzie Goth scene. To reiterate, they could play their instruments. The guitar 🎸 sounds amazing. I occasionally I detested the comparisons to the Sisters of Mercy. Eldtritch was into pop music, and now, after 35 or so years, people tell the truth. The Sisters We're great until 1985. Technology, and over reliance on it, wiped out their distinct sound. Floodland V The Nephilim Floodland- a great album, . . . but . . . a pop album. I loved Floodland but was blown away by the Fields of the Nephilim. The guitar work, namely the chords, choruses etc, were landmark for the, then dying movement. The Nephilim along with the film -"The Crow - gave Goth a 10 year life extension The Fields of the Nephilim Album - 1988: - Was a watershed moment. In 1988, as I wrote, it was 35 ( September 2023) years. Wow . . . . That album is a masterpiece! Songs. . . Endomonida, Preacher Man, Moonchild, Last Exit for the Lost . . . all priceless gems.
Enjoyed this interview! DAMN, i wish I had gone to this festival that summer!! I was actually in Austria during that month & considered going to the Amphi festival... but i would've had to have taken a train for 8 hours & then try to get to the festival by myself :( *sigh*, I wish they had more goth festivals like this here in the US
Carl13220 I do see your point....it is pretty persausive. However I think artists and musicians are a pretty select bunch so cultivating an image is all important and thats why they continue in a certain way in terms of their sound and iamge, I suppose thats what attracts young people to certain bands at certain points in their lives etc. Know one thing.....I loved McCoy's look and he had a coold way with words...Many thanks and take care Carl13220
sonofherne, I agree....artists do have to continue their work but I think there is something about the music genre which particularly makes musicians age very quickly and seem unimportant.....DONT get me wrong....in my youth I adored McCoy and his hordes.....I even once took hours to record the ace bass line intro from 'Laura II' and attach it to the original 'Laura' on the 'Burning the Fields' EP because I loved the song so much...at least in its original format....They were an amazing band.
actually I believe ihis low voice is from a throut injury when he was young. I wonder what he's real voice was like. Smoking doesn't give you a deep voice only worse one lack of lung power and raspy smokers cough and cancer.
@khorrumg About the way to dress : is Robert Smith not dressed today as he was 20 years ago ? Same with Wayne Hussey and i could carry on...And i think that i can choose any of the Goth icon of today ( random thought...Manson or Dani Filth ) i'm ready to bet 100 quids that they will be dressed 20 years from now.....as today. It's not about the Goth "lifestyle" , it's more about trying to stay young...at any cost.
Well, perhaps. However, there are still others in the so-called "goth" or connected scenes with all their hair at around this age. I'm thinking of Valor from Christian Death, Daniel Ash of Bauhaus, Ian Astbury of The Cult and so on. Ergo, why can't Carl McCoy's hair be genuine, too? I guess we'll never know... .
@@tristanyoung4161 I wasn't commenting on the length of Daniel Ash's hair, but the fact that he still has it (i.e.: is not bald). My original post was in reply to a post claiming that Carl McCoy is "never" (not true) seen without a hat, and thus must be bald by now.
@khorrumg Well, I agree to a certain extent, but he's an artiste and therefore his audience expect him to present in a certain way. But you're right, if he'd been an ordinary guy on the street, still dressing that way, at that age, it's a little silly. They just don't play the UK enough now, one UK venue and a dozen in Europe. What's the deal?
@@tristanyoung4161 I can't tell if you're being sarcastic 😂 There are several photos out there of him with a cigarette. At 2:34 and 5:05 in this video he has one in his hand
@ZaGaZigZag Yeah and work in the city...the truth is that age catches up with us all and one should leave one's youth behind and grow older with grace. I suppose the whole 'being in a band' stuff does require one to hold on to one's youth for longer, but as far as im concerned, life is NOT just about wearing black clothes and trying to live in a music video. Its just so cliched now...at least thats my opinion. T.C
SiRichard...no offence mate but really the whole 'Goth lifestyle' stuff is crass beyond beleif...some are its become fused with the occult for some reason too...all types of stuff...originally it was just the Banshees, Bauhaus, Birthday Party (well maybe..) and the Sisters......The Nephilim were a really good band and I loved their Burning the Fields EP...Dawnrazor was awesome too...but that was it ..at least for moi..Anyway mate...take care.
@SiRichardx7 Sorry.....just don't agree...I mean it looks so so silly aged Goths walking down the street...I mean how can you hold down a proper job whilst looking like a "has been'. I grew up in the early 80's and remember all the trends, Post Punk (Skids, Magazine), Futurists (Ultravox, Numan, John Foxx, Japan etc), Gothic (Bauhaus, Banshees, Sisters)...really no one...no one would have guessed that the latter would become a fricken 'life style'...these were really just supposed to be fads.SAD
My God...has the man got that old,,,his voice sounds like this builder I know.....he is still trying to dress like he did 20 years ago....how sad....why dont people move on...its sad that that Goth became an actual 'lifesyle' something I dont think anyone would have guessed back then in the 1980-1990
Even when he talks... just TALKS... he still has that voice... haunting yet so great... THE Voice... I'm glad they're still making music!
What a warm and charming is the smile he has. It made me smile together. :)
Saw them in Manchester a few weeks ago they still kick ass

Yes Eddiane. People with an IQ far higher than yours care.

Carl McCoy omg...🥰🥰🥰
I can count the TRULY special bands on the fingers of one hand...
Sad, there are tons ;-)
@BLUESLADY77RTE don't think he took notice of your comment. I went to the Brixton Academy gig last weekend and I'm sure I saw smoke on the stage...
he has so many diamonds, the watchman enjoys...what can i say...
Carl keeps his upper lip kind of stiff and the lower lip protrudes a lihul bit.

I'm nearly Carls age and I still have all my long hair and no grey either!!! Do you? hehe
He has the great intensive rusty voice because of smoking.

Carl do whatever you want baby baby!!
Fancy as a shag ;-)
@TheHammerheart of course!
Carl McCoy is so cute...
@khorrumg Yeah, he should probably wear a nice button up shirt and some fancy pressed dress pants, that would go over really well.
@SiRichardx7 I would add one more band to that list of greats. That band would be Nosferatu. I think Nosferatu had a great sound.
Damn...... Super talented n hot as f***

Ian Astbury is from Heswall on The Wirral. 5 mins from where I live. Great vocalist. Great band
Daniel Ash has short hair. Not long.
