The best locomotion method varies by genre is the thing, for example; I don't typically like armswinger locomotion, but I'd accept no other substitute for stealth games since it gives you the most fine tune control over your direction whether you need to move as fast or slow as possible, but I prefer plain and simple touchpad locomotion in outright shooters. However, for a melee combat based game, I'd prefer the one blade and sorcery has, where it's a touchpad + armswinger hybrid, allowing you to walk and reposition during combat by just holding a touchpad direction, but if you need to yeet the heck out of there you can swing your arms to run out. This is why the answer to locomotion is to treat it like graphics options in a non-VR game, people have different preferences and setups.
this isnt "How to walk in VR" its more like "How not to walk in VR"... I just thought id point that out. I still really enjoyed this video and keep up the good work
I want to give an honourable mention to Sairento. Includes safe comfort motion as standard, along with slide etc, but also an optional setting where if you lift your arms above your head when you aim a jump destination, you will do a somersault, backflip or cartwheel through the air in the game, ninja style. It literally flips your view upside down and has you shooting your guns are your ceiling, which is now the virtual upsidedown floor covered in bad guys. Is absolutely amazing to play. Personally I can't get enough of high mobility VR games. Another one to mention is Gunheart. You get both teleport and slide at once, with the ability to double jump. Combine it all and you're like a Titan Fall pilot crossed with the Matrix cross with Dragonball instant transmission type stuff. It also helps that the game includes mods for the configurable guns that add a degree of auto aim, allowing you to pull off stupid movie style trick shots and blind dual weild shooting in all directions, and it actually works rather than just wasting your ammo.
Couldn't agree more about Sairento. One of my absolute favourites of all time, and the team behind it are lovely ass people and are constantly updating there game. I'll have to checkout gun heart tho, never tried it originally due to poor reviews, but i'll trust you since you clearly understand what is so good about sairento.
Every time I find something like this video, I point out that VR CHAT has already figured out the best way to handle VR movement!! It's OPTIONS!!! In VR Chat you can mix and match many movement options, not to mention you don't even need to use VR in the first place!! When I first started in VR I got motion sickness but I forced myself to get used to it because just like you said in the video, all those other methods SUUUCK! I set VR Chat's movement options for "Smooth Motion Locomotion". That's where the left stick moves you in all directions and the right stick rotates you smoothly. I started by slowly moving forwards and backwards until I felt sick and stopped until it passed and did it again and again! When I could do that without feeling sick I started slowly rotating while moving forwards and backwards stopping when I felt sick and slowly I became immune to motion sickness. Today I even enjoy VR roller coasters and feel fine!!!

So what do you suggest? I mean I get it. However it took me months before I could use locomotion in VR. I would have given up on VR long before I got my VR legs if those implementations weren’t added. Granted they could have made that the default method of moving and allowed people who could handle it use locomotion. How would that have benefit anybody in multiplayer though? Once you get used to it, smooth transporting feels really natural! Give it a try! Hell, contact me and I can help you a tad within the actual game, if ya want.
Just... give me a device to strap myself in. Have that thing being equipped with a floor that senses the positions of my feet, make that floor slippy enough so I can walk in one spot with socks and let a harness prevent my body from toppling over - except for when I want to lie down. No motors are needed like in "Ready Player One" and only a system of pulleys that prevent unwanted falling.
Pretty good editing, i really like this kind of creativity, especially from a young people. Keep up the good work. i somewhat liked the movement in killing floor incursion you use the left button to walk by holding it and the buttons on the right controller let you look around. ( you can also teleport) i didn't get motion sick
Great videos, I think Virtual reality is supposed to allowing you to do things that normally can’t be done for most people. Movement is a big part of that experience, but movement doesn’t have to be like it is in real life but it has to feel good. Those new shoes look awful and Omiwheels are just those baby holders with more motors. When are we going to get a better and cheaper solution besides just walking in real life?
I know what you mean and i'm really tempted to do a video on that topic. Things like treadmills & shoes have been tested so much but it seems like no one has ever really found a way that beats what we came up with for original controllers (move the stick to move the character). I doubt we'll see a solution anytime soon tho; no one wants a treadmill the size of a fridge in there room. You make a good point that movement should feel good over feeling realistic, but i think that only works in certain areas. I'd say most VR experiences are aimed at paralleling reality at the minuet, so a movement system similar to our real movement system makes a lot of sense. But i'd imagine for steam VR navigation & such that we can probably find a system that functions even more intuitively than locomotion. (sorry for bad formatting, i'm on my phone)
Arizona Sunshine's teleporting, going from seeing to black, then in a new spot while seeing wasn't very bad. It didn't ruin the immersion for me. I never even noticed that it did that.

I got really motion sick my first couple of months in vr and now I can spend hours and hours at a time. Just takes some time to get used to. Maybe you could have another device like a treadmill that when you walk the device guesses where your gonna move so it's like a treadmill but it moves along with you and then where your looking in the game it move forward backward or sideways. Kinda like that scene in "Ready Player One". I dont know it's just an idea I've had for a while now.
Wouldnt some kind of trackers around your ankles, knees, hips, elbows (basically every joint) help? And then when you do some kind of walking or kneeling or running or jumping the game recognizes it?
Is there a real treadmill that works like you moving in reality like in the movie ready player one? Like anywhere you run, the treadmills moves and when you stop, it stops. That would work great :)
Have you tried myou's nalo beta branch on steam? Foot trackers need to be standard on next gen vr systems. I thought the Index would include a solution for foot locomotion but sadly it doesn't look like it. But hey, at least we're getting knuckles!
Foot bracelets with 6DOF tracking just like the Vive would be perfect. I don't know why no one has done it! It's the best value and most scalable solution we have atm. Omnidirectional treadmills are the obvious next step.
@@woopygoman The idea of foot tracking isn't a new one. A lot of people have tried it, but the best solution seems to be the VIVE trackers attached to the ankle. While this got popular in VR Chat, other games don't incorporate it due to a low user base with foot tracking. And the reason there is a low user base is, its unbelievably expensive. You gotta remember its the same level of tracking as the normal VIVE wands, so the same level of quality carries over & so does the price. I'm not really sure omni treadmills are gonna make any appearance in VR anytime soon. Big, bulky, expensive things that take up a large space in a users room is not what most people are looking for, not to mention most of them dont actually work how you think they would. Most testers talk about pressure on the hips, strange traction with the treadmill and serious difficulty with turning. The best we have for future movement methods (imo) are EEG's built into the headset.
If your willing to spend $10, you can get Natural Locomotion. It allows you to move in some big VR games by swinging your arms. I have never had motion sickness with this method and you can even use the beta mode and some extra controllers for a walk in place experience
Here's how I've gotten used to teleporting in games. Most of the time your VR body has capabilities your real body doesn't posses. So I just remind myself in the game world that's how my limbs work. In a flat screen game you don't even think about the fact you walk with your hands. So VR should be no different.

Have a wonderful day everyone. :)

@@GoBIGclan Always remember to smile, No one deserves to be sad or upset, Hang out with the people that love and care for you, Make new friends that would be there for you.
I know in my heart your a wonderful person. :) We all deserve love and kindness and for people to smile to others other than people to be angry and to hate others.
This is waayyyyyyy too positive. Can someone start being racist or something to balance it out.
(But for real, what a nice comment
@@VrtualVR Thanks, I try to spread positivity, We all need it.
Too many bad people in this world and we all should have no racism or anything like that, We all should always get along with everyone. :)
My comment is to try to make someone happy and I really do hope someone is when they read my comment. :) Everyone should have pma- Positive, Mental, Attitude and no one should have a negative mindset.
yeet my meat to the beat of phineas and ferb songs
Awesome vids man, subscribed!
People have already made that before and most of them are not for consumers except a new one coming out soon for 700 dollars called cat walk c
What do you think about the movement controls in the game budget cuts?
i would say its a really great idea cause you can see around without risking your life. i've never seen anyone else do it so i think its unique.
Thanks vrtual I know now! How to walk and teleport
This kid's like Up Is Not Jump, but in the past.
Nice visual style
Dude keep up the good work great vids
See things like budget cuts did good in teleporting
Oh, not going to lie, walking around a play space in circles while turning your camera in the opposite direction is a great, sometimes jarred
way.
Thumbnail is genuis mode activated
Love the Subnautica background music Ps You should play it
They should make movment pannels and then you could actually move in reality and in game
GENIUUSsssssss
If your willing to spend $10, you can get Natural Locomotion. It allows you to move in some big VR games by swinging your arms. I have never had motion sickness with this method and you can even use the beta mode and some extra controllers for a walk in place experience
Vrtual you make the best vids! That sermon, hahaha!
r1 to shoot and triangle to jump is kinda weird for me, cause modern games dont have that
You forgot the movement of climbey. I quite like how they do it in they game
Teleporting in rec room is broken you can just spam it and it goes crazy fast
I don’t get motion sick in VR unless it has that stupid snap turning (which, ironically enough, is supposed to reduce motion sickness)
Hmm. Maby the "Cybershoes" are a good solution :D
it would be so fun if halo was in vr
What is your opinion on the VR shoes?
Why does the Subnautica soundtrack play in the background at 3:00?
Because it's gooood
Yeah
Love that subnautica music
The thumbnail though. 😂😂😂
Here's how I've gotten used to teleporting in games. Most of the time your VR body has capabilities your real body doesn't posses. So I just remind myself in the game world that's how my limbs work. In a flat screen game you don't even think about the fact you walk with your hands. So VR should be no different.
