I watched those performances on Arsenio also. She actually sang VOL on his show twice. The first time was her TV debut, if I remember correctly and she didn't sing the high note. A few months later she opened the show with VOL and closed the show with, "Love Takes Time". Her first time on the show, she was a bit nervous. Her second appearance was FIRE! She sang the hell out of both of those songs. I still watch those performances on UA-cam occasionally.

One of my favorite Mariah Carey songs was "The Wind." Before that, I had no idea that Mariah had any jazz sensibilities. However, for a debut song, you must hear Whitney Houston's "Thinking About You" (no video) or "Nobody Loves Me Like You Do" 1985 Live duet with brother, Gary Houston. They are definitive of the the songstress's vocal flexibility.

One of my favorite Mariah Carey songs was "The Wind." Before that, I had no idea that Mariah had any jazz sensibilities. However, for a debut song, you must hear Whitney Houston's "Thinking About You" (no video) or "Nobody Loves Me Like You Do" 1985 Live duet with brother, Gary Houston. They are definitive of the the songstress's vocal flexibility.

I drove Uber for awhile & passengers always loved my Mariah CD. Esp couples going out at night. They'd say, "Great music" when they were getting out. Her early stuff is the best!! Had an incredible range too. Over 5 octaves with those whistle notes. Mariah & Whitney were the bomb vocally.
