I think 99 percent of the the people who are I love Lucy fans are so because of the warm memories it give them when they were growing up.
Yeah for me it's reminds me of when I used to watch it with my grandparents when I was younger
I got lucky to meet an minor actress who worked with Lucy back in the 40's. At the end of my friend's life (104), she only could listen to Benny Goodman music and I Love Lucy shows. Everything else really annoyed her.
@@stevehansen932 Aww...
Yes, warm memories.
@@noemistephanie93 also, here it is 70 years later - now is a less innocent time - plus there is a pandemic - makes me happy to hear about and see Lucy and Desi and the cast of I love Lucy - thanks
Everything about this show is incredible. No wonder we're still watching it 60-odd years later.
Lucille Ball is the best comedian of all time. She is definitely a legend. I just love her.
Legend!
Yes, I would love to see the facial expressions. I am glad to find out that Lucy and the other actors had difficulty remembering their lines. I tried my hand at theater when I was in college. I had a BEAR of a time memorizing my lines. After that, I decided to be a dresser, assistant stage manager, and help build the set.
LOL. Well, at least you were still in the biz.
Lucy was the only girl that could make you laugh and there are no other female could make you laugh like she did. She was the best actress in making fans laugh.
It's amazing how hard they worked!
Rick, you are absolutely amazing with the clips you find and your brilliant commentary! Thank you again for helping me ESCAPE from what we're living through. Don't stop!
Thank you Rick it's always so nice to know all the behind the scenes and learning their lines is surely to be included because its a big part of what makes the show so successful. As always my deepest thanks and appreciation.
Lucy and her team were amazing, a lot of work and they made it look so easy. Generations still being entertained by their wonderful show. :-) Great video! :-)
Wow, a lot of interesting stuff ! It must take a lot of time to research all of this. Thanks !
It does but it is worth it
I love all of your videos. Thanks so much for all of the effort you put in to make them!
shows how amazing she was , now a days you they film the whole season , but guess it had to be done that way if it was in front of audience . great video rick as usually. keep it up
This is very special to me. It will be passed down after I’m gone to one of my grandkids and hopefully they will do the same. Very interesting information Rick. They sure worked very hard! Thanks for sharing! And thanks for the gift! Believe me, it will be cherished!
Congrats, Thea, for winning the I Love Lucy DVDs!! Couldn't go to a nicer and deserving person!
Gee thanks!!
Wow! Congratulations on the win. I'm jealous I didn't find this channel sooner.
Great information Rick. I am sure us fans would like to see a video about the writers. As always BE HOPEFUL!!!
Great video Rick! Would love to see an in-depth one on the writers. Congratulations to Thea for winning! Yay! :)
Great video. It's very interesting to find out the behind the scenes secrets of I love lucy and your videos always brighten my day. Congrats to Thea on winning the gift.
Thanks for the video 📹. It is always nice to hear how the actors coped with memorizing their lines.
Just love all the I love Lucy videos! Keep them coming. I do like the 3 stooges ones too. Great job on the blog!!
Rick, your the best! Great and interesting info. As always! Be well and be hopeful!
Hi Rick! I would love to see anything you might post about the writers and how we gave Lucy instructions. Thank you for making these videos, I find them fascinating. Be hopeful!
Very Cool!! Thank You , Mr.Nineg
Great post, Rick! Hopefully more like this one.
Stay tuned!
Rick I love your videos! Thank you❤😃
Wow that is a lot of dialouge to memorize within a very short period of time. Credit to Lucy for being able to do that. I would totally be up for a video on the writers if you decided to do it.
Great info.! Thanks, Rick.
Hey Rick, as always, great video! Very interesting. Congrats to Thea on your winning the contest. Be hopeful!!!
Christopher Kraft Thank you!
I have also listened to every one of her earlier radio programs "My Favorite Husband". It has the same writers. I can tell you that many of the I Love Lucy plots first appeared on the radio show.... recycled for tv.
Awesome video, and congratulations 🎉 Thea.
Interesting information thank you Nick I enjoyed it 😃
Thanks for interesting information, Rick!
Thank you very much Rick. I am always glad to learn more about how they worked on the set of I Love Lucy.. Please Rick keep the videos on I Love Lucy coming.. Be Hopeful eh?
Always be hopeful!
Great info Rick
I just love watching her shows
awesome vid
Rick, you have so much insider info on Our Lucy. Tell me, what is your connection to being privy to this treasure trove?
By the way you're doing a great job and I like the sound of your voice it's easy to listen to.
I am just a huge fan of all this content!
Good job Rick.
I have often wondered how they remember lines. I play the piano the at church. I don't read music that well so I try and memorise the tune in my head. Then play it as we sang when I was a kid. It is better than going note by note in the book.
Hey. Whatever works, right?
Doing the lighting and camera positions is called “blocking.”
Hi Rick - Love this as I do all the videos. Can you tell me if the writing in the hearts for the opening of "I Love Lucy" was written by hand, and if so, by whom? Can't seem to find this information anywhere. Many thanks!
And I thought I was the only one who cared about that.
Geez after all that my weekend would consist of me laying on my sofa all weekend watching tv til bed time Sunday lol
Constructive criticism? I think you're marvelous. Thanks for this insight on memorization .
Absolute genius!!!!!
Can you do a video of their wardrobe in their true colors!? I've been googling all their outfits from all the seasons, but the color photos are very limited.
I used to write things on my hands in geomey class. Lol
I love I love Lucy
An interesting one, Rick, Now, any idea how the other main cast members handled memorizing a new script every week? It's been said that Desi was a "quick study," meaning someone who could just read a script once or twice and have their dialogue memorized. But, how did Frawley and Viv Vance do their memorization?
It should be pointed out that back then a TV series did 30 or more episodes a season. Now, it seems, cable and TV shows only do about 12 to 15 episodes a season. Quite a difference!
Thanks for the info, RMO3986. The incident with Frawley and Vance seems like a one-off thing. Rick pointed out that the hectic schedule caused even Lucy to start saying last weeks lines in a first rehearsal for the new week's show, on occasion. Frawley memorized his lines first, ignoring the storyline, but he would have easily gotten wind of the plotline during the first read through or early rehearsals.
I don't think he was showing signs of early dementia, during "I Love Lucy." Frawley was 5 years into doing "My Three Sons" before dementia forced him out of the show in 1965.
They didn't tape the shows like you say , the shows were filmed on film, one of the deals Desi made so these shows would endure and have good quality
“ I ❤️ Lucy “
I'd like to see how to you make one of these videos. What goes into it. Seems so flawless but I'm sure it takes a lot of time, research and prep.
Absolutely
Please Rick fo a video of both the writers and you sending out the video. IBoth videos are going to be fun to watch.
What about the set when they moved to the country? They showed Fred & Ethels place their to as well as the movie theater and restaurant. Plus the train station. Could you show us those? Thanks
Hey Rick...did you ever make the video you mentioned at 4:10? I’d love to see it.
Congrats to Thea!!! BE HOPEFUL!
Tim-Lee-Bo Grayson Thanks! Very excited!
I bet so. What was the show you guessed?
Tim-Lee-Bo Grayson I don’t understand what you’re asking. When did we pick
a show?
Im knew on his channel and maybe mixed up on the contest you won. I was talking about the frozen pic of a I Love Lucy show and we had to guess what show it came from.
I would never be able to memorize a script -- never mind a new script every week.
Ok, maybe I am missing something, but, shows nowadays are weekly, too, aren't they? Don't the actors nowadays have the same problem? I don't mean to detract from I Love Lucy and they're particular hurdles but it just seems that today's actors have to deal with the same problem. Am I wrong? What am I missing ?
@@dianetheisen8664 -- I don't know what the shooting schedule of contemporary TV is. I just know that I wouldn't be able to memorize a script.
@@kevinbyrne4538 I would be in the same boat 🚢!
Thanks! Do you happen to know which episode it was where the stage hand destroyed the notes that Lucy and Vivian wrote?
Oh, good question!
I know that it seems petty and minor, but I hear so many people today talk about I Love Lucy being taped in front of a live audience. The show was filmed, not taped. These are two distinct mediums. Any serious TV buff immediately recognizes the difference. For example almost all Twilight Zone episodes were filmed. However a handful were taped. An example of a taped episode is the Christmas episode ("The Night of the Meek") starring Art Carney. An example of a filmed episode is “To Serve Man”. The visual difference is striking. Thankfully I Love Lucy was beautifully captured on 35mm film allowing generations of viewers to enjoy a high quality picture.
Hey, Fred, are you related to "Ricky Ricardo"? !!! lol
Unfortunately, no.
Thanks, Fred. I was just joking around, of course. Best to you!
It's cuz no one cares and uses them interchangeably.
Do you have any photos of Lucy's homes
Thanks we enjoy your channel
Check out my newer vids and I have many cool photos!
Be hopeful
Do you know why with regards to the set that back wall…sometimes there is a window and sometimes not?
They were two different apartments
Nice!!do batman 1966
i am a fan since i was 10 in cuba from a magazine. how ever i didn't know much about their story
so i have many pictures. i think if they missed the words imagine lucy with desi and his issues on th e weekend plus like i said the shows were not sequence like 12 3 so by having lucy in a show driving and six months later learning to drive i don't think they were capable of remembering they couldn't write about learning to drive is she was already shown driving some of those mistakes were not questionable we all loved them never question those details or even noticed. we knew it was a written show.
HERE'S THE GREATEST LOVED LADY EVER 💝 & THE GREATEST LOVED MAN 💝 DESI ARNAZ SR. FOREVER, DESI & LUCY TRUELOVE FROM THE DAY DESI LAYED EYES ON LUCY! I KNOW THEY HAD DIFFERENCE'S BUT LUCY & LUCI WERE AT DESI' SIDE WHEN HE PASSED AWAY, YOU NEVER EVER FORGET YOUR FIRST LOVE, LUCY COULDN'T TELL DESI WHAT TO DO OR RUN HIM THEY LOVED EACH OTHER TO THE END & IF ONE NEEDED THE OTHER? YES! BOTH WERE THERE FOR EACH OTHER!!!! GARY MORTON? LUCY COULD CLEARLY SAY JUMP GARY WOULD SAY HOW HIGH?
Cue cards
thanks ! for the like comment.
Rick, regarding the script, was there a lot of improv or did they stick to the script verbatim?
Lucille Ball has said in interviews there was no improvisation, but Rick has caught a few moments where he points out a blooper and a quick improv line was thrown in to cover the mistake.
Yes, Lucy was correct. Original goal was no improv but after a blooper, they may have gotten flustered and improv-ing back to the script may have happened but it was rare. You are right, Michael! Thanks for the clarity here.
That was a lot of work on Lucy's part
I KNOW who won...I did. No? It wasn.t me??? Uggghhhh😬
🍸🍸🍸
No one believes he memorized all his lines for both of Desi's characters thats impossible
Desi memorized everyone's lines after one read thru
