I live a block and a half from Fissure 8. We still cannot believe our kitty survived this. He survived the gasses. The guy ate all the mice, bugs even the mongoose. There are none left, he was skin and bones. He was gone, on his own for 6 months. He came back to us the first night we moved back in. We were sitting on the lanai having a cocktail, heard a familiar "meow". He talked all night so much he lost his voice the next day. It was great. The little guy is a warrior.
Watching the lava in person is so mesmerizing, it can be easy to almost forget the real danger you're in being close. The ground is HOT all around you, and the lava is alive and moving. It's awe-inspiring.
The very fact that it exists under such extreme conditions that for it to remain as a fluid it must emit light and heat is astounding, awe inspiring, and terrifying. It’s easy for water to flow, but it takes a monumental amount of energy for rock to flow like water. Our world is incredible.
I have mad respect for people who risk their lives to get these amazing, close-up videos of lava that I very much enjoy. Lava is so beautiful and full of rage.
Nice work, Lance! You took all the risks, expended a great deal of time and effort to capture those gorgeous time-lapse/tracking shots, and endured a whole heckuva lot of heat....and you did it all for your audience. Well, maybe not just us, but it sure is appreciated just the same. Nice score too. Kudos for a job well done!
a very beautiful film. i live in the path of this most recent kilauea flow. we were prepared to evacuate when it just stopped a few yards from the main road in Pahoa. it broke off and headed toward the one super market we have. then it stopped again within yards of the store. This north east rift zone eruption is now frozen. what a relief. wonder where it will flow next time? it was nice to see the footage without the feeling of impending doom.
Hey Gwen, I produced this film. What a trip to see your comment now 4 years after the infamous 2018 eruption. The footage in this one was taken when the flows were about a mile from Pahoa, just before the time you mentioned. Hope you're well!
Organic, beautiful and truly moving film of nature's true idiom of life through constant change. The only problem is I could watch this for way more than a handful of minutes on offer here.
Truly an amazing video. Thank you for sacrificing some drones to capture this footage. Oh, and the music really accented the video nicely. Very enjoyable!
Lava is like the coolest thing on this planet. It is so fierce, cool, destructive, and deadly all at the same time plus it might be slow but that heat will have you running away from it. Nothing can stop a lava flow.
All I can think about is the truth of just how many creatures are be roasted alive - those who live upon the ground and there within. Such a horror caused by the beauty of the fast flowing, burning ember of molten lava.
Nature told us, the prettier it is, the more deadly it is and boy, this is extremely beautiful. Sad for the island but Mother Nature is reclaiming herself.
I just want to know what kind of camera they use and how to capture something like the scene on min 3:00 to 3:21 I love those shots!! Also, is that possible to see in real life like that!??

Hey @Guy X-1 Thanks so much! It was a really intense production, we learned some things the hard way and fortunately made it back in 1 piece!
Despite the destruction evident here the photography is stunning
So beautiful. So deadly. So poetic.
Loved the rotation with the Milky Way, and the lava lake blew my mind... well done!!!

I lived in Hawaii for 6 years and while this is so beautiful it is so destructive. The path behind the lava looks like a moonscape. Total devastation
