- Leshan Giant Buddha is 71 m (233 ft) tall statue, carved out of a cliff face during the 8th century, for more than 90 years. It is the largest stone Buddha in the world and the tallest pre-modern statue in the world. (Wikipedia)
The Mount Emei Scenic Area, including Leshan Giant Buddha Scenic Area has been listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Imagine just Imagine for one second how great a man needs to be on his life time and what his achievements should be to be portrayed in such a fashion. How great was Siddhartha? What a sight to behold!
He was a fully enlightened Samyaksambuddha. In a sense, he could be thought of as the greatest and the most important human being to have ever lived as he discovered and taught the way out of suffering. I don't see any conqueror, or saints, or philosophers, or scientists as important as him (though they all are great in their own way).

This is surely a sight to behold,when I first saw this giant statue on a cruise trip my heart skipped a beat,the kind of granduer overwhelms you. And also the city of Leshan has some of the BEST cuisines in CHINA,I could eat their all year round and never repeat.

We love the Holy Buddha so much, no statue is big enough for us. If someone can build a statue, starting from the ground and until it reaches the sky, it’s far better than building those tall buildings that remain vacant most of the time. Buddha statue always fill the hearts of the worshipers with sheer adoration. It’s a pity no relative of Buddha survived to continue his lineage.
This is all the result of the broad philosophy of the Buddha, which is not about subjecting others or making money, but about helping suffering beings to achieve liberation. This is obviously different from Islam, because Islam was created for the rulers to maintain their rule and to inherit their rule, as an instrument invented for subjecting the people.
Buddhism is wide spread because it does not force anyone to believe.

The staircase and carvings and the rest of the site would be incredible w/o the Buddha but in totality one of the Greatest Man with Nature rather than man vs nature monuments ever conceived on Earth. A real monument to beauty and tenacity. A minor miracle it was finished.. It would not go unfinished... Nearly a will of it's own
